What if they are looking Coby to play some safety in order to get Adams (or Love?) into a LB role for a package? Maybe even to add enough safety depth to be able to run that package when Jamal isn't back, yet? Idk, just a thought.

Or maybe it signals they like Artie Burns and Coby better than Joey Blount. I'm overthinking... carry on.

Jefferson said that Sauce Gardner reminds him of Richard Sherman, but better.

Whatever...Sauce wasn't even as good as Woolen last year. And Sherman in his prime was better than both of them last year

Witherspoon needs to be on the field. If he's healthy, get him out there. He'll make some mistakes, but that f-you attitude is exactly what this defense didn't have last year. Wide Receivers will know they will pay for everything they get. And as he adapts to the NFL game, they might not get much.

I'll be shocked if he's not getting 80%+ snaps by November. You don't pick a guy that high not to play him.

Crazy idea, but could Spoon start as a deep set hybrid LB? Riq, Brown/Jackson, Bryant as CB's with Love & Diggs Safety. Spoon roaming in front as a coverage LB, he seems better reading the play in zone than pressed in man coverage. Then we can also use his tackling skills to back-up BWagz if a run breaks through the lines. Basically i just want our best football players on the field as much as possible.

Anything is possible. The fact that they want to look at Coby at safety, and signed Love, and spent their highest pick in forever on Spoon, and spent all that they did on Adams, suggests that they value these guys that can play nickel/SS more than most teams. We know they designed a lot of the defensive schemes around the idea that Adams would be a focal point. Given Spoon's size, I think they'll keep him at nickel, at least as a rookie. You don't want him filling run gaps and taking on O-lineman on early downs. Coby is a fine player, and maybe he's improved enough to make it impossible to bench him, but I think he's destined for a backup role given our current depth in the secondary.

It makes me think back to the No-Fly Zone Broncos D. If you stack the backfield with quality, you can almost eliminate the deep ball threat. The idea being to force the QB to delay their throw that extra half-second/second, which for Broncos allowed Miller to do his thing, for us that can be buying Nuwosu/Taylor the same extra step chance to disrupt.

The weakness here is the propensity to give up too many 5-10 yard completions, and the opposition can just keep moving the chains. However, this is where Spoon comes into his own in the hybrid LB role, to spy and shut down on those short throws. And people seem to think Wagner is looking good in coverage, and does Bush.

Also, i'm trying to figure out why we seemingly did nothing to address the LB "issue". But this plan would make sense of it! Three (with Adams arguably four, move Bryant or Love around could be up to seix) coverage focused LBs would give us usable depth at LB. Also would allow explanation why there's no urgency to find a really disruptive interior rusher/NT pressure, because the plan is to shut down the throw and buy extra time for the DLine - as opposed to the prevailing fan/media desire to use the DLine to buy time for your DB's.

Fridays mock game could of course blow my thinking out the water. But it would follow through on a lot of the "questionable" off-season decisions.

Thinking Witherspoon will start outside and move to nickel and put jackson outside when needed. He’ll be on the field every snap if he’s healthy

Hearing the positive news about Spoon just made the sun come out. If pulling on the pads really has let the dawg out, and MJack has made something an off-season jump....hot damn, we be smokin’.

How would Jefferson know if sauce is better than Sherman !!! I call Hooey! Love the competition and heard Really good stuff about Vi the other day- I believe with the talent at ALL the other places, if the O-line steps up a bit and the D-line works out Inside, who knows just how far and good they can end up!

I hope the media (and other players on opposing teams) keep talking about Sauce, because you know that Riq and the other Seahawks DBs will be grinding their teeth every time they hear it. Sauce? Who needs Sauce? There is only one of him and we have a box set of quality DBs. Frim-fram that sauce...

I thi k we were tied for 7th in sacks with like 6 other teams.

Not saying our pass rush was bad, I think it was better than most in the media give them credit for, but saying we were 7th best is sacks seems a bit disingenuous.

And I do think that increased run D and hopefully better nickleback, MLB, and strong safety play should really help out our pass rush.
