Tough for any of the defensive UDFA's to make the roster. If one UDFA does sneak onto the roster, it would seem it would come from the offensive side. Maybe things change when the pads go on.
Maybe we should have a UDFA fantasy competition. We all pick a name and see who the last man standing is. From the comments, Westover seems the most popular. Or do you go for an interesting name like Ceaser? I kind of like the look of Levelston’s numbers.
I do feel sorry for these strugglers though. It’s an uphill battle for their dreams. I wish them all success.
They can all tell about the time they were in the same locker room and played on the same field as D K Metcalf, Devon Witherspoon and can rightly say that they got farther than 99.9% of the guys who played high school ball at the same time as them.
Yeah that’s nice, but a dream’s a dream. I had a similar one once and tore my cruciate ligament and that was that. I see what you’re saying - at least they get the chance. It hurts when it doesn’t work out though.
I've been harping on the 2024 draft class all off-season because of the lack of depth and presence of alot of guys who probably wouldn't even get a UDFA callup in most years. I think you've hit on that theme here. I can't remember which of the big independents it was that first reported the "dominator age" factor and its predictive qualities re: NFL success but its something I have always kept in my mind because its logic is obvious. Having a "breakout" when you are 23 with 5 years experience at the college level playing against freshman and sophomores is just not very inspiring, then factor in the "barely baseline" athleticism and I am extremely skeptical.
Having said that I love an underdog and whenever a team gets a good contribution from a UDFA it is fantastic so I want any or all of these guys to show out and earn a roster spot. I just don't think it is very likely.
In looking through the UDFA players from yesterday (offense) and today (defense) I’m having a hard time coming up with a player that is gonna force his way on the roster. But if I have to come up with one, it’s Jack Westover, the TE/maybe FB/H back from UW. I like his apparent grit.
One thing that does seem to be common among the UDFA’s and also 5th rd or later draft picks that are going to make it, is there is “noise” right when they hit camp and it builds. Thinking of Angry Doug, DeShawn Shead, Jake Bobo, Chris Carson. Read about them almost every day after OTA’s and practice. Guys who right away you start reading “they seem Seahawky”, “not sure how they lasted this late in the draft”, “ his college coaches and ex teammates aren’t surprised”, etc etc
Bc regardless of the reason you ended up being a late pick or undrafted, if you’re not standing out right away at this level, you aren’t going to make it. Just too many proven players on this and all the other rosters.
Or said another way: is anyone offense or defense getting Jake Bobo buzz this year?
Caitlin Clark comes to mind here. The worlds best collage BB player is getting punched around in the pro's. She's awesome and will be a star for ten years or more, but she isn't playing against Evansville or Bowling Green any more. The competition is just so much better in the big leagues. God bless all the Doug Baldwin's, Chris Carson's, and Jake Bobo's in the world, but when everybody is awesome, it's hard to even get a job let alone stand out.
Bobo is the Real Deal. He showed us he can find the 'It Factor" on many levels, be it blocking, running, Red Zone or 3rd downs. After watching McVay face Mike's Raven defense last year, the way he assigned his rookie WR Puka into secondary blocking assignments on runs up the middle made me believe we will see Bobo getting similar tasks added to his versatility. He showed this on relatively rare appearances. Made hay while the sun shines, but then I'm a cowboy. So is Bobo. He will factor in Big this year.
Camp will tell, no way to know at this time - But the info is good to have.

Buddha Jones is already waived.

Jeez, you make maturation sound like a bad thing. Just an old guy in the way. Lol May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks.
PS: Maybe Westover!!!?!!

No objections from me. I think there are some practice squad potential players here, but none for the 53 barring some major injuries.

I'm really hoping Westover makes it as well -- the slash role being exactly the role. TE/FB/H-back/ST.
