The Seahawks knew going into the game that the Rams beat the Jets and therefore put a lot of pressure on Geno Smith and Mike Macdonald to beat the Vikings to avoid a potential elimination game on Thursday. Unfortunately, Seattle’s bid to get their ninth win came up as short as Jason Myers’ last minute 60-yard field goal attempt and the Seahawks lost 27-24 to fall to 8-7.
Seattle now needs to beat the Bears in Chicago in four days or the offseason will start before the Seahawks even play the Rams in the finale.
At first, the situation looked dire, down 17-7 in the second quarter at home. Then Seattle pulled a touchdown out of their hats and Geno recovered nicely from his 14th interception of the season, finishing with a season-best 3 TDs.
But the Seahawks couldn’t keep Sam Darnold and company from responding with a touchdown of their own and opted a 60-yard attempt to tie rather than a fourth-and-15.
Don’t second guess the decision though. The Seahawks aren’t on the cusp of elimination because of just one play or one game result. No, the Seahawks could lament their losses to the Rams and Giants more than anything else.

I must have seen a different game than just about everyone else here. This was a tough loss to a good team, but it’s not like they didn’t bother showing up (like last week) and it’s not like Justin Jefferson isn’t an HOF receiver who has never been the difference in a game. They didn’t play a perfect game, but no one ever does. This was a tense, exciting game and no one has to hang their head.
My rule of thumb is that, to win, a team has to win the TO battle on the road and break even at home. As well as the defense played, they couldn’t get a TO and we coughed up the ball twice. End of story.
The Vikings are a good side. The Hawks took it to them today. Yea, Geno made Geno errors, but he also made some great plays - nothing new there. Yes, the O-line needs improvement - nothing new there. But the fact they were in the game for as long as they were against a good team is better than other recent games IMO.
