I have no issue with Kubiak bringing in some of 'his guys', assuming they are smart football guys that can teach very well and develop the guys that are already here. But, I'd hate for us to take that a step further and start a Vikings or Saints reunion tour of their former players that they know and are comfortable with. How about we objectively look at the talent available to us, and make the best choices based on those objective criteria. Don't change the criteria to fit a player. That's how you make mistakes. I don't think they'll do this, but do worry about it a bit. It's human nature.

I hope the coaching staff is mostly here for a few years now, so they can develop and the players can stay and grow into the same scheme. Changing OC's or DC's every year or two is a recipe for mediocracy.

The only way Cousins would work is if they put the extra money from the QB swap into the interior OL. With his total lack of mobility last year, he's going to need a top-5 line to succeed. Cross and Lucas could very well be 2/5s of that line, filling in the rest of the holes is going to be the challenge.

I agree. Putting aside my general dislike for Cousins, if they were to go in that direction, they better be sure they've to some degree patched up the o-line. He's never been particularly mobile, and at his age, and with his injury history, he's pretty much a sitting duck back there.

For me there are a few substantial advantages for Geno (although maybe I’m being a homer):

- he’s a better scrambler and runner

- he’s more clutch

- Cousins is coming off a pretty bad 2nd half of the season and his career may have “Wilsoned”.

And given Coach Mac’s repeated inferences that Geno’s critics aren’t watching the same tape he is, think they extend Geno till Howell proves out or they find their next QB of the future.

Not to mention ... Cousin's arm strength issues.

Based on how I saw fans talk about Geno Smith interceptions this year, much of which were not his fault, how is this fanbase going to deal with all these interceptions thrown directly to the defender including pick 6s. And Cousin's isn't throwing a pick 6 and leading a game tieing drive and a game winning drive in OT only to get stopped by 4 straight runs.

This is the classic grass is greener situation.

Critical assumption is that Atlanta will release Cousins rather than use him as a backup or starter. One way, they overspend on QB's, and the other way they throw a lot of money away paying for Cousins to play for some other team (the Seahawks rather than Pittsburg lets say or Vegas). I see the connection and if all those if's turn out in our favor, then I can see your thinking.

I'm not sure if the timing allows us to release Geno after we are assured of getting Cousins and before we owe Geno his guaranteed money. I doubt if can happen, but I'm less of an expert than SSJ. It COULD happen, of course. But is it likely? I'd like you to outline how the timeline comes together. When is the latest Atlanta can release Cousins for us to avoid Geno's guaranteed money?

I do like how you have outlined the likely improvement in our team without any additions, but as you say, there will be additions, and like you, I'd rather make a splash in free agency for a guaranteed improvement in our team rather than a couple of guys who are past their prime.

Cousins, the king of choking in the clutch? No thanks! The idiot Falcons paid him a small fortune to be replaced by a good young QB. our very own Michael Penix on a cheap rookie contract . I think there's a lesson for the Hawks in that situation. No extension for Geno and do what the Falcons belatedly did...find a young, mobile QB asap.

Funny, I just saw on Youtube that Kubiak hired a couple coaches( a Chatsports vid ), now I don't usually watch Chatsports videos cuz they are very often brimming over with B.S, so I started looking around for another source and sure enough, a notification from SSJ. SSJ, YOU DA MAN !!!!!!

Go Hawks

No apologies necessary for me, but I just don;t care who made the bad decisions or good decisions, I only hope they make the right decisions this year and going forward. If we can get Cousins for peanuts and save 30 million in cap space, that would be a win. We could keep DK and still have plenty for a free agent guard or center, and still have all our draft capital. Though, using some of our draft capital and cap space on Garrett would be money well spent. Our defense would instantly be a terror for QB's.
