The broadcast was a disaster last night so I missed a lot of Lock's performance and I got so frustrated with it that I only half paid attention in the second half. I probably saw more of Lock's iffy moments than good but I'm happy to hear the positive comments today. 100% agree it is important to remember he was playing really for the first time in a year.
The injuries keep racking up though. I hate the injuries so much, especially when they happen to guys who are trying to make a roster, whether its here or elsewhere.
Jake Bobo - really great game for him, other than that false start he kind of shared with Winston. Did a great job on ST especially on that punt he tossed back into the field of play from the end zone.
Speaking of ST, they were great overall, covered punt and kick returns well, but I expect nothing less from a Larry Izzo coached unit.
The one time I noticed Olu (and granted, I wasn't focusing on the OL much) was when he got beat badly on a play when the entire right side of the line was dominating. I don't remember the specific play, but I had a reaction of "ugh"
Holton Ahlers reminds me a lot of Jared Lorenzen, although with a lot more mobility. That TD pass he was clearly just trying to throw away but got hit and Landers got a great uncalled pushoff to make the catch.
Devin Bush was all over the place, which is good to see, maybe he has finally recovered from injuries.
It's so great to see ST showing that spark they had back in the 2012/2013 seasons. It has been such a long time since that unit was consistently good. They had ups and downs last year, but you could see it trending the right direction.
Bobo was out there on ST so, ok, I say "BO" you say "BO":
Bo
Bo
BO
BO
BOBOBOBOBOBOBOBO! Write him into the 53 with ink.
Charbs looked good, better than DeeJay I have to say.
On D... the missed tackles by Tre were dsappointing to see, that is not good tape for him.
But the Seahawks 2/3rd team players were clearly superior to the Vikings and this is actually significant to me. That was also true back in 2012-15: the Seahawks have quality depth in a way they haven't had for years.
And that is not what they are being coached to do. It was really bad tackling form and Tre will hear about it. The tackling was much better in the mid-point of the 2nd quarter--there was a brief interview/comment from Carroll that "we couldn't tackle anything in the first quarter" and I am sure the D coaches were getting the message across. WRAP UP!
Wholeheartedly agree on Sutherland vs Reed II, another poor play by Reed was when he was brought on a blitz but just rushed into the back of the 2 DL who were clearing up the line for him, should have looped into the A-gap where he had a clear path to the QB. Sutherland played with lots of energy, showed solid tackling form and knew where he needed to be, he may struggle to make the 53 man roster given the depth at safety but hopefully we can keep him on the PS.
I was really pleased with both Bobo and Landers, Landers in particular looked really good in the run game as a blocker on the boundary and both guys showed that they can use those big frames well as receivers.
I was at work for the game and just watched the replay. The standout for me was Koback. If he continues to play like he did, they won’t be able to deny him I don’t think.
Also, as I’ve said before, I hope Bobo gets a spot coz I like the name. Besides that, he certainly looked the goods in this game.
Agree and agree. Koback was on ST as well and looked good, quick feet and a tough runner. He would be great to stash on the roster "just in case." Ahlers was FUN but really raw. A year on the practice squad and with development the Seahawks may have something there.
I watched the game on the NFL Network, the only outlet where the game was available in Tucson. Their broadcast personnel were so completely and biased shamelessly biased in favor of the Vikings that it ruined the game for me. One of the broadcasters even wore a purple shirt. They, maybe, showed the Seattle sidelines 10 times throughout the game, They interviewed player after player from the Vikings but not even once did they interview a Seahawk player. Makes me even more glad that the "Hawks won. I thought the defense played much better in the second half and I was impressed by Holten Ahlers in his short stint at QB.
I think you were watching the Vikings broadcast, like me. The Seahawks had a Seahawks-biased broadcast in Seattle. I had it at first but for some reason the NFL switched it mid-first quarter.
I was on DAZN, so it seems we were robbed of MikeRob and Bennett jamming in the booth and I was loving it....until there was an unrecoverable failure and the commnetary switched to the NFL Vikings feed for the rest of the game (The Vikings team, unspeakably dull in comparison, let on to that fact). I really hope they can get them back a second time
Was very impressed with Lock's touch. Maybe its still the Jake Locker hangover from years past, but the first thing I look for in QBs with big arms is touch. His pass to Kobeck and then the TD to Bobo were perfect touch throws.
I think he had at least one questionable throw/decision in the first half to JSN that probably would have been picked but JSN made a nice play to get a hand on it (which is what good receivers do: protect the QB). The pick in the second half was just tipped ... it happens. No QB will go a season without Int.
Hilarious to see some other reactions from the Hawks blog world or the Hawk Blogger world: "I remain confused why so many are Drew Lock stans (including the Seahawks). I’d much rather have DTR or some other young guy on a rookie deal." <--- he's confused and I'm confused at what he is confused about! We are all confused!
Go Hawks ... Keep getting better Lock great start. Liked that Joe pointed out how long it has been since he played in an actual game <- great point.
Lock played great. Composed. Touch. No wild gunslinging. It’s Geno’s job, and it’s great to know that if the backup QB comes in, the team won’t miss a beat.
Thought so too, but, based on this game alone would you rather have Drew Lock or Nick Mullens? Lock did play a solid game but if he can’t separate from a Nick Mullens.....
I'm not a big Lock fan or defender, but we've seen quite a bit of both Lock and Mullens start in the regular season and I would argue that even though Mullens played in a tougher division he had access to much better coaching, a better offense overall, and was on a better team. He did play well at times but he's taken his share of lumps, including QBing the single greatest defensive performance of Bobby Wagner's career.
Mullins played well. I noticed that too. I think the difference is what is always tantalizing in sports: Lock has superior arm talent that can’t be taught. He has the ability to make all the throws the NFL asks. Mullens cannot.
Lock has 2 issues:
1) decision making
2) Accuracy
The two are likely interrelated at times.
But mullens is not on Locks level in my opinion even when he plays well.
100% ... This is the goal for sure. Geno is awesome and its great to see him be the guy this year.
Also, at the same time, Lock is also 26 years old. By comparison Will Levis is 24 and Hendon Hooker is 25. Could Lock have a starting chance down the road with the Hawks? Don't know but the chance is not 0.
Ha…. I know that this is a “practice game;” what I didn’t expect is it to be “practicel. for King 5 technical staff coupled with their ridiculous lack of professionalism from the “commentators.”

Good first PS game by this team, lots to enjoy.

I have not seen a comment yet about Mafe, but Boye does he ever look ready to take the next step!
He looks like he is ready for the deep end of the pool, not the shallow end. Could a Star be Born?

The edge rusher position all of a sudden looks highly competitive (Nwosu, Taylor, hall, mafe) Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Yeah I get really frustrated with the diving tackle attempts because it really hurts when they inevitably miss.
And that is not what they are being coached to do. It was really bad tackling form and Tre will hear about it. ...now if we could just find a wide receiver named something like John-Pierre Patches. Then we'd have a proper Seattle-themed team!
Bobo may well turn out to be the 400-lb gorilla of this year's UDFA crop.

Eskridge is making CJ Prosise and Penny look like Cal Ripken Jr.

Switched because King5 had broadcast issues multiple times, so NFL network switched to the Vikings broadcast.

Is it time for an Ahlers Wildcat package?

Good read ... No preaseason rust for Joe!
