Seahawks workout QB, pair of WRs
Dolphins rule out Tua Tagovailoa, did they sign Tyler Huntley for MM intel?: Seaside Joe 2026
There have been many questions recently by Seahawks fans on whether or not the team would target offensive line help in what’s left of free agency and the answer from John Schneider so far has been a resounding, they actually don’t think Anthony Bradford’s been that bad. It’s not for a lack of Seattle testing the waters of seeing what’s out there as far as potential upgrades to their reserves:
The Seahawks worked out quarterback Ian Book, plus receivers Denzel Mims and Miles Boykin this week.
Who would they replace?
QB Ian Book
Presumably, the Seahawks are not overly impressed with Jaren Hall, the former BYU and Vikings quarterback who signed on the practice squad two weeks ago. I can’t imagine that Ian Book would be added in addition to Hall or as competition for Sam Howell.
Book, a fourth round pick of the Saints in 2021, is someone who once threw a lot of touchdowns at Notre Dame but doesn’t necessarily have NFL-quality arm talent. He made one start for the Saints as a rookie and threw two interceptions, to date it is his only NFL appearance.
I would call Jaren Hall a much more exciting quarterback as a college player, but neither of them are very likely to have regular jobs on 53-man rosters. Unless the team anticipates Hall being picked up by another team, perhaps the Dolphins.
WR Denzel Mims
I think Mims is a player that a lot of Seahawks fans are already aware of and coincidentally the Jets selected him with the pick that they received from Seattle in the Darrell Taylor trade during the 2020 draft. Mims was that guy who was going to be compared to DK Metcalf a year after DK Metcalf because he’s 6’3, 207 lbs, and ran a 4.38 40-yard dash.
Mims appeared in 30 games over three seasons with the Jets, often sitting out as a healthy scratch, and he has yet to score an NFL touchdown. He was traded to the Lions in 2023, but never appeared in game with Detroit and later had a practice squad stint with the Steelers. He spent a few offseason months with the Jaguars but was released before final cuts.
Miles Boykin
A third round pick in 2019, roughly one round after Metcalf was picked, Boykin is in the same mold as the other two. He is 6’4, 220, and he ran a 4.42 with a 43.5” vertical at the combine. Boykin went to the Ravens the same year that Lamar Jackson won his first MVP award, but had fewer receiving yards than running back Mark Ingram and six other players on Baltimore’s offense. Another coincidence is that Boykin was on Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster last year essentially taking that spot from Mims when he was on the practice squad.
It’s hard to expect anything from Denzel Mims or Miles Boykin, but the Seahawks only have one receiver on their practice squad, Cody White. The fact that Seattle is only looking at two big “X” receivers right now though is potentially of some note.
Tua Tagovailoa OUT
Not surprising, but the Dolphins placed Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve and they will start Skylar Thompson against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Thompson, a seventh round pick out of Kansas State in 2022, made five extended appearances as a rookie during Tua’s first season of concussion concerns, including the wild card loss to the Bills. Though Thompson is not a good quarterback (I would say his career numbers of 1 TD, 3 INT, 57% completions with 5.1 Y/A, though only on 119 pass attempts, are a fair representation of what’s on film), let’s not overlook that sometimes it hasn’t even really mattered because Miami’s weapons are so good.
They lost 34-31 to the Bills, not 34-0.
The team has had more time to prepare Thompson for this moment, maybe he’s better. The Dolphins will first find out if their run game will work against Seattle’s defense, and if it does, Thompson won’t have to even do that much. Miami also added Tyler Huntley to the roster this week, someone who has done a lot of practicing against a Mike Macdonald defense.

I think Mims and Boykins, if they want to continue their football careers, need to learn how to speak Canadian! The Hawks can do better!
