The Seahawks entered training camp with questions about the depth chart at receiver, namely that everyone other than Jaxon Smith-Njigba came attached to a red flag. Whether it be age, injury history, or a lack of production at the NFL level, Seattle would either find an unexpected gem to complement JSN. Or potentially suffer because of it.
Nobody did more suffering on Friday than Jake Bobo, as a serious knee injury threatens to rob him of the entire season.
"Our heart goes out to Jake Bobo," Macdonald said. "It seems like it's going to be a serious knee [injury]. We're going to get it imaged, but early returns are [that] it looks like it's a long-term injury. That's unfortunate."
Tory Horton, the player most likely to compete for reps as the third or fourth-receiver, has not practiced in over a week and Mike Macdonald said he would continue to be out for a while.
"He's still working through his stuff," Macdonald said. "He's going to be out for a period of time."
These two losses alone cut deeply into the Seahawks’ options if anything happens to the starting three of JSN, Rashid Shaheed, and Cooper Kupp. Furthermore, Montorie Foster Jr. left practice on Friday too, but Macdonald called it “heat-related”.
There are currently six depth pieces vying for a sixth receiver spot, if there even is one on the final 53, including Foster.
However, Bobo's injury guarantees that “sixth” becomes “fifth”, and if Horton starts the season on IR or PUP, then “fifth” becomes “fourth”, and then maybe two or three of the bubble receivers make the roster. Where do things stand with Seattle’s depth at receiver headed into Sunday’s next preseason game?
Which receivers are most likely to replace Bobo and Horton?
