Would $10 million a year for 3 years $20 million garunteed bring him back. From what I can tell that or even 11 million should work. Dunlap does not look old slow or tired and seems to have a great attitude. We need him and have to pay him.
If Carlos Dunlap believes in himself, and turning down a renegotiation suggests that he does, then I expect him to prefer a one-year deal that allows him an opportunity to hit a better market in 2022. Expect a lot of one-year deals or pseudo-one year deals based on the 2021 salary cap. Dunlap could probably go get a one-year, $12-14 million deal, even if that is tied to incentives. Then he'd hit the market and would assuredly top the $20 million guaranteed. There just aren't many pass rushers on the market who seem to be as interesting as Dunlap, but then again, we may be overvaluing sack totals and undervaluing beef.
Whelp -- and that is that. As I remember, the Seahawks gave up BJ Finney and a 7th rounder for Dunlap. Finney was never going to play for the Seahawks. The Seahawks had the cap room to take on Dunlap for the 2020 campaign. Maybe the Seahawks don't win the division without Dunlap, and I guess it's worth a 7th rounder to secure a division pennant. I think the JJ Watt deal really hurt the Seahawks' chance of giving Dunlap an extension he's happy with.
From a fan standpoint (ignoring cap, etc), it would be amazing to have Dunlap back. Because of 2 reasons, pure passion for the game and veteran-do-your-job leadership on the d-line. To the second point it feels like the Seahawks most successful sacks/penetration years had emotionally mature veterans on the d-line (ie 29+ yr olds Clemons & Bennett).
One more thought how much better were Reeds numbers when they had an outside threat
If he was a retread I would say 4th down time to punt but he is not and we will be lost without him
Russ wants the cap space going to the OL, and maybe he gets his wish. Collier and Taylor need to step it up.
