Somewhat off-topic but am watching Rams/Jacksonville and want to talk about Trevor Lawrence.
He's so inconsistent. Misses receivers, fires bullets when he should have some nuance, looks his receivers down, honestly for all the physical gifts, he's nowhere near a #1 pick-level QB.
And they gave this guy $50m and then bought him Travis Hunter who is definitely a player but who with someone like Darnold would be killing it. Six games in to get his first TD?
Just watched him airmail Hunter again, time in the end zone, missed him by at least 5 yards...
Man, is there any another player in the league whose press clippings have been doggedly hung onto this deep into a career, despite so much film to the contrary -- and getting $50m. No way would I trade him for Darnold.
Are the Houston Texans the best team the Seahawks have faced so far?
Maybe.
The Rams and the Jags held them to less than 10 points. There last 2 games have come against 2 of the worst teams in the AFC, the Titans and the Ravens.
At this point in the season, this year, it seems to be hard to say how good some teams are. Philly, KC and the Bills have all lost 2 games. Indy has good numbers but I think they have played a pretty weak schedule.
I know the Texans have a defensive head coach and skill players on that side of the ball. No question the D carries the team. We will see what happens Monday night.
Sure 2025 was a weak class... Just nobody think how we turned our first two picks into instant impact players, our third progressing nicely, and found usable depth on day 3.
The Rams can easily take two firsts in another "bad" year and get just as much impact. (Their issue remains what happens when Stafford finally can't do it anymore)
For us, yes we want to go 32nd. And we want to go into the draft without a need. By then I imagine we'll have a much clearer picture where MM sees the Edge, LB and DB situation. Then at 32nd we can pick whoever we feel is best to help us run it back for the repeat. Draft good players, not needed players, at any point in the process!
Need has to be factored into the equation at least a little bit, but after reading this newsletter for a few years, I've also come to understand that positional value has to be considered. Then again, I've said before that I'd draft a punter in the first round if I knew for sure he'd play for 20 years and go to the HoF.
Positional value does factor into it, but I think more so higher up in the 1st round. Maybe not a RB or off ball LB in the top 5. But when you're in the high 20's or 30's, I think that it factors in less. Just get a REALLY good football player.
Best player available next year in the draft. That late in round 1 (if that's where it ends up being) just let the draft come to you. See which positions have big runs on them and then take the pick of the litter from your draft board. They could literally draft any position next year....perhaps not safety if we can re-sign Bryant. WR, iLB, DB, S, RB, OL, Edge would all be in play, and if another DT fell to us, that would be in play as well.
I agree Houston may be one of the better teams we have faced. That defence is as much a challenge for Kubiak as it is for Darnold. Sam will need answers to those blitz packages. Take what the defence gives you, keep them on the field, and take your shots when they come.
Wanted to say something else about the Rams having two firsts next year.
They traded down 20 spots and drafted TE Terrance Ferguson. The trade to next year only wins if Ferguson is a good pick. Otherwise they just moved their first round pick back by a year for little reason, depending how they decide to wield 2 picks. It’s very early but Ferguson seems further behind than almost anybody in the top 2 rounds. He can’t get past TE3 Parkinson, who is having a terrible run since leaving the Seahawks.
The NFL is such a crazy, wonderful place. There is so much actual, hard fact, evidence that winning teams can be built a hundred different ways that just about every GM and coach can be / could be considered a genius. I feel like I'm a pretty good checkers player, but John Schneider and Mike Macdonald are above-average 3-D Chess players.
Yeah I think you gotta hire the right people and know when to be patient with them and when to be impatient. Which is why everything starts with good ownership.
I recall the fight Steve Young had to mount to get Frisco to sit Joe Montana. I detested the guy for it, but then he'd been sitting for years waiting on his shot. Big Drama, in any event. His insertions proved he was the Real Deal as a QB. While Drew Lock hasn't Wowed us, he deserves a decent shot at being someone's #1QB. MM and JS will see Peace and Harmony prevail by showing The Guys they are serious in considering what is best for everyone. Lock will need some luck, but if we enter the Playoffs early, I have little doubt we'll see Drew start a game. Drew and Luck aren't very close. Or maybe he has adjusted to reality and won't be pushing anyone over anything, but having Milroe in the wings suggests otherwise.
Don’t forget that Drew Lock had an amazing start for the giants at the end of last year. I’m on my phone right now but I think Lock was signed for 2 years? That’s why I say the room won’t change. He’s the backup.
Luck has had a decent shot. Four decent shots in fact. One each in Denver and New York, and two in Seattle. He's not the next Brett Favre or Steve Young.
Fifth times the charm! As long as someone trades us a Day 2 for it please, I mean, if he's that good to be a starter he's worth a Day 2 right? Heck, send him to the Bengals for Trey. Cincy gets their season back on track and we win a SB.

With the 32nd pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, The Seattle Seahawks pick ... !
... someone Really good.
No....REALLY good....lol.

They should definitely draft a RG if they don't replace future HOF er Bradford this year. After that it's best player available.
