I signed up for HBO to watch Hard Knocks. I’ll probably stay subscribed for three months and see what I can watch besides the Seahawks. I’m glad you put the time and effort you do into the Seahawks. I’ve maintained for years the reason experts are so poor at accurately assessing any one team is they can’t put any meaningful time into learning about that team and 31 others. You can’t try and give accurate information on all 32 teams.
Yeah that effort to cover all 32 teams is just not possible. Anyone who does that is really only getting up to 10% insight on every team.
If anything, I think a person could cover "all the quarterbacks" and maybe that's their specialty. Or all the offensive lines. But definitely not the teams. It's especially spread thin when they had shows like Around the Horn.
Some good stuff on HBO. We just finished season 3 of The Wire.
Bought HBO for a few months for the first time for this (and so my spouse can watch some ER drama) - didn’t realize I’m going to be disappointed… but I’ll watch it anyway cause it’s the Hawks.
You all ever hear the story about the workers being studied under different types of lighting...They were checking productivity? They kept adjusting the lights and the workers just kept working harder and harder because they knew people were watching them. The workers had no idea the lights ever changed. I feel like that might happen here, the staff and players know people are watching so they are going to bring their A game and stay focused. At least I sure hope that's what happens.
Coming from someone who does watch a lot of reality competition TV, I think the cameras do sometimes have the opposite effect. People become fixated on less important things like, "will people think I'm funny?"
I really don't think the cameras will have any impact. If anything, it'll just make the team more wary of keeping things close to the vest, hence making for pretty much the opposite of what fans would want.
Just imagine a show that was completely transparent. That team would probably sabotage their entire season if they did that. But boy would it be interesting.
What is wrong with fruit loops for dinner? JK. I have enjoyed pancakes and ham for dinner. My mom used to make it and present it as a treat in the seventies. Realized later it was a cheap filler. Mom was tricky.
The only time I can think of that watching Mariners was not a waste was 1995. I worked with several Yankee fans. When the Yanks were up 2 games to nil, they were incredibly loud.
A few days later not so much.
But to be clear 1 Seahawk victory is worth more than all the Mariner victories combined in my opinion.
Totally agree with the Mariners. Look, I feel bad for the fans. But I do not think the organization stands much of a chance, which makes it all the more gut wrenching that they almost made the World Series last year. It felt like "that was the chance".
I hate the distraction, creates a media circus at the expense of one poor team and coaching staff while the rest can just focus on the task at hand. Worried about it less when you had to be bad to get picked, but now they've literally flipped it on its ear and it's the defending Super Bowl champions??? Boy talk about an act of desperation to try to concoct ratings. If anyone can keep the team focused it's Mike MacDonald, but what a terribly unfair concept. Thankfully it seems to be losing whatever luster it might have had.
I find 99% of tertiary NFL media tedious, worse-than-uninformative, and even offensive to my values. That said, Netflix's Quarterback shocked me with how good and interesting it was. Strongly recommend it to everyone here. Haven't watched Wide Receiver but I plan to.
Provided more insight than any other media I've seen about what it's like *to actually be a player on an NFL team*, which was really interesting. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for just how incredibly hard it is to win, and the obscene things that even "bad" NFL players go through to have a chance to win on game day.

That's what I would call it. An act of desperation. Even the fact that they've already named the Patriots as the 2027 HK team.
