This is the sports-pundit narrative that irritates me the most… Not to mention the Rams and 49ers treacle that continues to be peddled in corporate sports media circles (I’m looking at you, Athletic…). I’m adjusting my squelch to block out the blatant disrespect…
Am I the only one who's concerned that Price's first game in the NFL will be against a Team looking for revenge? And MD didn't give him much play-time during the preseason/joint-practices. Nerves and ball security could get us behind and playing catch-up early. Got to think Price will be super nervous... Sorry to put this out there.
As the defending champions, the Seahawks already wear a bullseye. Every team on their schedule wants to "take them down a notch". Jadarian Price was drafted to play running back for the Seahawks. Next man up, no matter who's on the other side of the line.
They must be bringing blitzes big-time and counting on their CB's to hold down the fort. Problem with that is our guys out of the backfield, Kupp and Barnyard. Blitz killers
And if Sam D is given sufficient time to read his options or extend a play, he can carve up a secondary with JSN, CK and Barnyard about as well as anyone. Experience matters.
Maybe the biggest factor (aside from our depleted safety position) is uncertainty.
Offenses set the personnel and call the play. Defenses react. The QB can adjust with an audible and the defense can react to that. Teams get little intel during preseason, so offenses typically have the upper hand in Week 1. Matt Hasselbeck predicts a higher score this week than the last time these teams met.
Last year, Kubiak knew that the Niners owned his playbook, and he went away from his core style. It was too cute by half. Our defense, on the other hand, had continuity and played well. I pin the loss on Kubiak, who corrected course immediately. Hopefully, Sam and company will use their strengths and Fleury will add just enough wrinkles to keep the Patriots on their heels. Advantage: Seattle.
I expect the defense to start where they left off, noting the holes at safety. Hopefully, our ready squad is up for the task. It’s not like Bryant and Okada were seen as irreplaceable a year ago. Who knows when the next unexpected star could shine?
The Patriots offense has the advantage of having studied Macdonald’s tactics, and they have better receivers. I expect them to have a ton of hot routes available, and to put pressure on our safeties, when Maye has time. If our DL performs, it will be small-ball all day long. This could be a toss up. The crowd could give the Seahawks a slight edge.
On Special Teams, Seattle should have a strong advantage, assuming that Myers has been playing around with his technique in preseason and will be in fine form for real games.
It’s Week 1, so mistakes could be above average. Mistakes can lead to points.
I expect more points in this game than last. (That’s a recent change for me.) I expect the Seahawks to win, but it won’t be as comfortable as we might like.

The one thing about being the reining champs is that there’s a target on our backs. The worry is that lesser teams can lift because of that and play above themselves.
I’m confident of a win, but we can’t rest on our laurels.
So the O-line Committee YouTube channel just rated O-lines in the NFL. Seattle was rated top 10 by two of the committee and top 6 by one of them. I think these guys have it right.

So I had a dream where Spoon was taking snaps lined up as a safety in a two high safety scheme. Yeah, it was just a dream, but if anyone could line up as a deep safety and play it without ever playing there, Spoon could do it.
I still give him more credit than all of the Lamb-lovers out there, as he at least acknowledged that the Seahawks are the defending champions. And, while he admits that the Ewes are talented, he doesn't have them in the Super Bowl. He gets one week of grace from me.

I was shocked at the lack of quality edge players for Pats. We may have good success on outside zone runs to build the rooks confidence.
