Run at Verse, pressure Purdy up the middle, and put Emmanwori on McBride. Problems solved.
The 1st game of the year will be very, very interesting. How good can our defense be in year 2? What will the offense look like, and will we struggle early getting our shit together? What will the o-line look like, and how big a jump will they take with the new coaches and Zabel at LG? Will we actually be able to run the ball and get to a lot of 3rd and 3's? Will Murphy take a big jump in year 2 and reek havoc in the middle of that line? Will the young athlete's like Emmanwori and Arroyo show up early? How many people will Ouzts pancake in game 1?
Game 1 could be absolutely amazing, or a total letdown. Either way, it'll just be 1 game. I'm like most fans. Too high after a win, and too low after a loss. And losing to the 9ers hurts the most, but winning against them is pure heaven.
Use a Fullback and run right at Verse, problem solved. The Cards will only go as far Murray takes them. With his skinny chicken legs and his injuries it might not be very far. The only QB with chicken legs to last longer than 5 years was Joe Montana because he was a Houdini in the pocket.
" Just when you finally catch the little bastard, you're too tired to enjoy it! " ( Deacon Jones on playing against Fran Tarkenton )
Personally loved watching Fitz play. Sometimes you just have to enjoy such athletic perfection (plus he was on the Cards not the Whiners so is ok). I was about to post about McBride, or TE in general but you did. Yes when PC was here I just absolutely hated his general defense, ie lack of it. Coach Mac at least changes his defense based on opponent. PC kept same defense no matter opponent (ie hated PC not smashing those small receivers in NE).
“You can’t say that Kaepernick had a worse head coach, or even a worse team around him.”
I can say that Kaepernick, Jimmy G, and Purdy each played against different Seahawks teams, though. Kaepernick had the rare ability to take over a game. I haven’t seen close to that out of Purdy.
Who is the most problematic player(s) on the Seahawks for these teams?
Sports writers for the other NFC West teams should be writing an article about JSN titled, "This guy is a problem." This time next year, I hope the article is about Byron Murphy.
I guess I'm less concerned about opponents offensive players being good since I also believe our defense is going to be solid. It's our offense (especially o line) I worry more about and that's why Verse (and Fiske et al) give me the heartburn.
Coach Benton has 9 games to prepare us to handle Verse and all the new moves he's added since last year's rookie season. Developing a solid Run Game will negate a lot of the advantages his power has on pass protection. Darryl Taylor was a one dimensional Sacker that sucked on runs, so design run plays around such players?
I agree but also agree that Cross isn’t good vs bulls. With that, we’ve got a FB now , I hope. Guarantee if we had a Mack Strong in there, Verse bull would be stopped. And with his miss tackle rate, Strong would drive though Verse like a Mack truck. Hoping Oustz is that counter against certain players/teams.
I’m still pissed he’s not in the Ring of Honor. Should have been there before Hass etc. Most Largent man of year awards and the muscle for SA stardom. And a forever Seahawk.
I have the Seahawks at 12-5 this year, splitting games with the Rams and 49ers and winning both against the Cardinals. I didn’t want to play the 49ers game one due to the need for the Seahawks offense to gel with its new system. This would be a tough loss to start the year, but I believe the MM defense will be ready and if we can keep the pressure on Purdy, we can limit his effectiveness. He had some bad games last year when teams applied constant pressure. Verse is a handful, but I know that Cross added significant muscle weight and Lucas looks like a Greek God. - thinner, heavier and stronger. Strength and the ability to anchor is key in defending the bull rush. We’ve had the cardinals number for quite some time, and I don’t think Murray has what it takes to fully take advantage of McBride. Pressure Murray and he quickly bolts the pocket leaving receivers breaking open wondering where the pass is.
The NFL is highly competitive, and the NFC west will be a very competitive division. The good thing for the Seahawks is this is year two of MM’s install, and just like the 2nd half of last season saw a much more effective defense, if we see a repeat of year two in Baltimore, we will see a top 5 defense that should keep us competitive in most games. I’m also bullish on the offense running effectively to the tune of 2200-2500 yards. The key is a healthy Lucas and a healthy K9. WE GOT THIS!
>>Pressure Murray and he quickly bolts the pocket leaving receivers breaking open wondering where the pass is.<<
We should see a big improvement in MM's efforts at interceptions. Playing fast and loose, I expect Wollen and Spoon will have a banner year in this regard. Unlike Carroll, MacDonald will take the risks needed to unlock this.
I agree that turnovers forced is the stat that could change the most for the defense. Pressure will give the DB's and LB's more chances, and they just have to close the deal. Lots of near misses last year. A MM defense should be in the top 10 in turnovers forced, so I'm hoping for a big jump here.
Our last game against Purdy was a Win. I'm going to see that as the start of a trend. He will now begin to feel the effects of his new huge contract sucking money away from his teammates. Performances will take a hit (sadly). Trades will be forced.
The Niner defense has had a talent drain. The defensive backfield isn’t scaring anyone and the starting OLBs are almost comically undersized. They are unproven at DT to say the least.
McBride is an unknown if he’s healthy he can be one of the best in time.
Purdy really smart in some games he had problems with interceptions and making mistakes, but I don’t think that’s the normal for him. A lot I think depends on the health of McCaffrey.
The best way to handle the defenses in the NFC West is to stop the three and out offense. If we can have long drives with a promising defense to be even better, we will do well.
Verse? FTR's. Purdy? FT9ers. McBride? FTC's.
Run at Verse, pressure Purdy up the middle, and put Emmanwori on McBride. Problems solved.

Mack Strong never got the props he deserved!!

If Purdy is our biggest worry on the Niners, I’ll take that matchup.
And hopefully Ouzts will crack Verse a few times to make him a half-step hesitant
Heck yeah! Ouzts will knock him on his arse!

Woolen not Wollen ;)
Dammit. I'm going with your spelling. Arghhh.
You say Pottato, I say Pootato. I make that mistake all the time. So far, 100% of the people reading it have figured it out.
I’m with you!

Not to mention the effects of age.
The Niner defense has had a talent drain. The defensive backfield isn’t scaring anyone and the starting OLBs are almost comically undersized. They are unproven at DT to say the least.
They spent their fist five draft picks on defense for good reason.
