The movie list is full of great choices. For those of you who can tolerate b/w and slow pace I highly recommend “Anatomy of a Murder” and “The Best Years of Our Lives”. Both surprisingly explicit, pre 1965 looks at taboo subjects. The first concerns a trial involving murder and rape and the second deals with soldiers transitioning back to civilian life after experiencing war trauma.

Agree with SSJ, Do we really need him. I would rather see Seattle add a veteran corner, another inside LB or a veteran O-Line guy.

I'm convinced, no to Hendrickson.

I really think SSJ hit the nail on the head in his last bullet “Does MM even need a “Top-3 edge rusher” in his defensive scheme to produce a league-leading number of sacked?” No the answer and so it is with Hendrickson and his big bucks/draft picks. What I would love to see is a good nose tackle on cut down day.

After renegotiating Chenna, I'm going to say it's a no. I'm guessing he is the one they would have moved via trade or release to make room for Hendrickson, but after the renegotiation, it makes a lot less sense given the post-June 1 numbers. They could still do it, I suppose, but for a much less friendly financial situation.

Big contracts to 30 year olds........ugh. Tricky business. It can certainly work out, and his injury history is pretty clean. But if he slides at all, say back to 12-14 sacks, is he worth nearly $40M for the 2-4 sacks he might get over Mafe? And Mafe is better against the run IMO. I dunno. It just seems the value of doing this isn't there unless he stays at the 17-20 sack range for at least 2 more years.

The highest sack total I could find by a 30 year old was Elvis Dumervil in 2014 at 17 sacks, and that was with the Ravens. So if 30 year olds repeating what Hendrickson did last year is that rare, I'm out I think.

Our D moved from 32 to 11 in MM’s first year … Adding Hendrickson along with our stud 2nd round multi-tool player, All the rest we have coming back… with an offense that can run.. Playoffs!!!

No question that in a vacuum, getting Hendrickson as an upgrade to a premium position would be awesome.

That’s the way I would like to look at it. I’m persuaded that because of the salary cap, there’s no such thing as a vacuum in the NFL.

My reaction to the movie list is, "what? No Mel Brooks movie?!?" Give me Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles or Spaceballs, please. Also, a great rom-com is When Harry Met Sally. I am a big movie fan who likes many different genres.

For those that can tolerate intense movie experiences and love clever entertaining dialogue, I love Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, and Django Unchained.

I have seen most of those on the list and the ones I saw I really liked. Very good list. One of my all-time faves that has everything is The Princess Bride.

On the survey, I recommended a mini-series on Netflix called "The Residence". It's a witty whodunnit with snappy dialogue and a good ensemble cast. It is 8 episodes at about 40mins each.

Love Tarantino's stuff. Pulp Fiction is one of the few movies I re-watch regularly. Brilliantly written and acted. DPS is also brilliant. Other Robin Williams gems are Good Morning Vietnam and The Fisher King. The Fisher King doesn't seem to resonate with certain folks, but I really like it.

One I forgot to throw in was Cloud Atlas, especially for those Tom Hanks fans out there. Very different movie. After my wife and I watched it the first time, we re-watched it the second time the next night. Never did that before with a movie. But following the story through time, and all the subtle linkages, it was easy to miss things.

Thanks for the Tropic Thunder reference. I will follow it up with another concerning trading for Hendrickson. For those that think spending that kind of money on a guy that makes our top 5 defense a top 2 defense, I ask, does it make that big a difference versus using that towards keeping the guys we have next year and benefitting from their potential growth? If you still think so, I say "never go full (offensive term here)". The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Great player, but the cost could be a Jamal Adams type of disaster. If he gets hurt, we lose a ton of flexibility and we are still where we are now. If he's healthy and reeks havoc on opposing offenses, great. But its still a ton of money to make the D move up a few notches when we can keep that cash and use it mid-season on offense if needed. Plus we would have to trade one of the other edge players as SSJ pointed out, and losing a player in the early stages of potential greatness would be a shame.

Note - I don't really think any one is (R) if they want the trade, I just wanted a way to use the quote off of what SSJ started.

Note 2 - I am not sure what cinephile recommended Sleepaway Camp, buts its the best low budget 80s slasher EVER. And by I'm not sure, it's me. I recommended it. My favorite Holy Shit ending of any movie ever. Kaiser Soze? Lame. Less than Zero? Snooze. Sleepaway Camp wins for effects and plot twist.

2 thumbs up here, Tim! Keep the money in reserve and we keep the Team together. When hunting our 2nd Super Bowl, Doug Baldwin was talking-up "spreading the 'cheese' around as concerns the super star salaries. It will be a huge help if Seattle becomes a plum place to live out your football career...

Maybe the question re. books, movies, tv series - should have been split. I think I listed a book on the survey and movies in the comments, none of which made the list here. Anyway, just a thought. Interesting and great list though. It’s amazing how different people’s tastes are.

Slow Horses is a tv show, not a movie. Gary Oldman plays a bizarro version of his character in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which *is* a movie.

I highly recommend both.

Jack Lowden is in Slow Horses.

Jack Lowden is also in, "Tornado". A brand new film litterally release this week. It's super cool! A samurai movie, set in Scotland in 1790. Also staring Tim Roth & The Hound from Game of Thrones. The film is gorgeous. It's very deliberate in it's pacing, but the 3rd act conclusion is more than incredible. Highly recommended.

Keep an eye on Koki, the star. Former J-pop star turned actress. She's got talent to burn, going toe-to-toe with Tim Roth and Takehiro Hira which is no mean feat.

I'm seeing Coach going with the Guys he's got this year. Things he's said, impressions he's made, need to be lived up to to now. That sense of Confidence will infuse itself throughout everything we attempt this season. High on those expectations will be pay increases and bonuses promised. Let's remember our O-Line hasn't been especially well remunerated under Carroll and the outcomes reflect this. By keeping his Defense together this year sends a huge message to our developing Offense. Every one of these Men are super-athletic All Stars just for being in the NFL. On any given day, any Team can go out and deliver a whole can of WhoopAss on any other Team. Anyone not up for that will find a new home elsewhere next year. But being replaced won't come from Coaches or Management not living up to what they promised. Hang on to that $31 Million, John. The guys are watching. Closely.

You described what was in my head. The alchemy of the team needs to be carefully considered going forward. The organism has formed, and by all appearances seems to be coming together nicely, so they need to be cautious with new ingredients. Paying an outsider top-of-the-market money when so many youngsters are coming up to 2nd contracts sends a message I'm not sure I'm comfortable with. If the youngsters aren't worth the 2nd contracts that's one thing. But we've got some good guys to look after over the next 2 years.

Hendrickson may be more than an excellent player, and an outstanding individual as well, but I have no idea of that. It could work out well, but JS and MM need to be really, really sure of what they're adding, if they choose to.

Well said, Chris. You touch on my concern that Coach would dilute the efforts by younger guys to go the extra steps needed to prove one's self (Grrrr). I'm seeing Grey Zabel as THE new guy who shows them what it takes to be as big and tough (and new) as anyone they come up against. Then the older guys get growly and Big Fun erupts. "I went to a Boxing Match and a Rugby Game broke out..." -Rodney Dangerfield, paraphrased.

Is Salk getting more obnoxious on purpose? Even after Brady Henderson provides a thoughtful and well-reasoned description of why a third round pick would be the most he'd see JS paying for Hendrickson, Salk argues with him. He says, well I'd give up a second rounder and so would you, because if you'll trade a third then you'll trade a second. Henderson pokes fun at him, and rightly so, for his nonsensical reasoning. This motivates Salk to basically talk over his guest and force him into either agreeing with him or turning the conversation even more awkward. Henderson is gracious enough to oblige, but the whole exchange was just confrontational for no good reason. Why not just say, "oh, you think Schneider might do that; interesting, and good points. Thanks for you insight and for being a guest on my show."
