He said he wanted to stay when season ended. He’s got a wife, a budding real estate career and might want to stay where he’s put down roots over the stress of starting over with a new team, city and future. I expect he is within a year or two of retiring.
I have to admit I'm a bit confused by the numbers. Can anyone explain it as if to a 5 year old how a 2024 pay cut of up to $4 million ($15.3 million old base + $1.7 million incentives minus $13 million new base) is a $14 million reduction on the salary cap this season?
Hey Bob because when he signed extension 4 years ago, and last year renegotiated his contract, the “push” the bill towards end of the contract extension meant that for 2024 his cap hit was $27 million. Most contracts when signed are not like say Geno’s last years 3 years 75 mil or 25 mil a year. With signing bonuses liability at front but spread over the life, you can play the per year cap hit game. In total “may be” X amount but in reality it’s a back ended inflated number. In Tyler’s case his contract hit for 2024 was slated at $27 mil with no guarantee. Now he’s guaranteed $13 mil, thus $14 mil in 2024 cap. FYI why CPA and lawyers are the capologists (remember your algebra class in high school this is one profession that uses it :-))
I had the same question, and the only thing I came up is that the 30 million for 2 years includes the nearly 20 million still remaining of his previous signing bonus. It's either that (where the 13 million is his 10 mil of bonus plus 3 mil salary), or the 14 million in cap space is a misrepresentation, and it's just a 4 million pay cut this year as the only change.
Great move by both sides- Gives the Hawks more room in Free agency and the draft to build as they see it moving forward, with quality and not really needing much this year on the Offensive side of the ball!
I’d add guard and TE, on offense as well as a swing/backup tackle. There are definitely more holes on defense though. We need starters at DT, LB, and safety on D. Safety should have some bargains with so many being released.
Mainly I want to see him return to the goal lines and a bit less to the sidelines. He does not need all of the speed of his rocket days because of his amazing ability to get clearance from defenders. I have to wonder whether he will be able to fit in a 2025-26 team.
The numbers are all crazy but I'm glad Tyler is still a Seahawk. That dude has made so many clutch catches. Yeah, not too many YAC, but think of the sideline and goal line perfection. Perfect body control and great hands. He is one of a kind.
Also, I had no idea Eskridge (the potential of all potentials) was still a consideration. Maybe the new regime will find his value.
I was off by one million or so. He's worth it. And that means we are less likely to dip into the WR pool in the draft. We'll be able to think about QB or OL with our first two picks. Then maybe a LB or safety? Probably BPA which could be almost any position, which I fully support.

Bonus over three years (1) voidable. Basically pushed the cap hit down the road.
Got it, thanks.
I think if I were a GM I would probably make it a policy to hand out 3rd contracts to a player, they just seem to bite you in the ass too often.

Had to happen, and I’m glad they worked something out. He’s a loveable guy.

Except a top notch center!
WhooHoo ! Great for all around, 'specially the fans.

One of the highest separations in the league. That and great hands. Trust is huge.
Well read, my erudite friend!
Yay!
Chris Jones re signed with Chiefs
How much?

I believe they let him go-
Excuse me - I was wrong here-
Thank you Mr. Lockett.
