Vision Board: Seahawks-Falcons
Are we listening to what the universe is trying to tell us? Seaside Joe 2057
We all know that our phones listen to us and we assume that when we get an ad or a YouTube suggestion that correlates to some random topic that was discussed earlier in the day, that it must be connected. But have I just experienced the first instance of my phone…telepathically reading my mind?
I’ve had a few mind-bending instances of synchronicity lately, but I don’t know how to explain this one. Maybe one of you can help me in the comments.
Last night I was reading Quentin Tarantino’s book “Cinema Speculation” and going through the section on Taxi Driver when I came across a paragraph that should have been meaningless but now I’ll never forget it. Here Tarantino is writing about how Taxi Driver was originally meant for Brian De Palma, but he offered it to Martin Scorsese because he felt the movie wasn’t going to be a commercial success.
“In all fairness to De Palma of that era, a movie that would put asses in the seats was what Brian was looking for. His brand-new Twentieth Century Fox rock’n’roll musical extravaganza Phantom of the Paradise was playing in New York to empty auditoriums.”
That’s it, right? I put the book down a few minutes later and went on a search for a movie to watch. I opened up Amazon Prime and clicked ‘search’ and what do you think was the first movie suggested to me?
Seaside Joe readers, please be as amazed by this as I am…I had never even heard of the 1974 movie Phantom of the Paradise until QT’s throwaway reference to it as an abject failure that is now 50 years old and mostly forgotten. I’m not saying you haven’t heard of it (the score was nominated for an Oscar and apparently it’s become a cult classic) but the first time I heard of it was last night and then the second time I heard of it was also last night. I didn’t look for it…it found me!
How do things like this happen? Seriously, someone, tell me:
The best answer I can give is that the universe works in mysterious ways and maybe that’s why the Seahawks have lost their last three games in a row. When people used to tell me that I would “jinx” the Seahawks because of something I write, my response was to say that I’m honored to have so much power. Maybe I shouldn’t be so sarcastic about the powers.
In the first three weeks of the season, I (somewhat at the cost of my own embarassment) used reality competition TV shows as a jumping off point for the Vision Board: Survivor, Big Brother, and The Challenge. I love these shows, but I also realized that not many other people do and tried to veer into more of a football territory in Week 4.
Seahawks when the Vision Board uses reality TV: 3-0
Seahawks when the Vision Board does not use reality TV: 0-3
I don’t know what the universe is up to, but it couldn’t hurt to try to go back to what was working in the past. Even if you hate reality TV, hopefully we can mostly agree that if the Seahawks beat the Falcons on Sunday that it’s worth a few minor references to television shows that I like.
The 26th season of Big Brother concluded last week and without giving anything significant away, I’ll reference some of the popular moments from this year; even more relevant now that we’ve been talking about listening devices in our pockets. Big Brother fans were gifted at least a couple of new legendary players/characters this season and let’s hope they can help Seattle bury the Falcons in Week 7.
I’ll share my other recent unbelievable synchronicity experience in the comments section, so always be hitting those comments after the newsletter to get the 100% full story of the day from Seaside Joe.
Now for the Visions…Which as a reminder for newer folks is: three things that we should all really want the Seahawks to do in their next game in order to have success, whether these are attributes they consistently execute or not. Here are this week’s 3 visions for Seahawks-Falcons:
