It's been a good weekend so far. The Bears and Rams both lost. Chicago plays Green Bay twice and the 49ers. I promise they won't win all three of those games. If Seattle wins out they'll have the #1 seed. Go Hawks.

Just for the record: SEA 26 > Minn ZERO. Seattle controls its destiny. Win out and get the #1 seed and a week off to recoup.

Max Brosmer played in all the preseason games. He beat out Brett Rypien for the backup job. Brett Rypien had 6 years of NFL experience but the Vikings went with Brosmer. He played in 3 games this season. His long pass was 20 yards.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict a shootout. 31-28 Hawks win with a last second field goal, Brosmer throws three teeders in his debut and keeps McCarthy in the protocol for the rest of the season.

...or the hawks could crush him with 6 sacks and end the game in the first half again. We'll see!

Some Writers see our game as The Upset of the Week. I have to sneak in my bet it will be the Browns take out the Niners! HooAh! It has a few of the hallmarks I look for, 2 BIGGIES: 1) a proud team are underdogs on their Homefield. 2) They are re-setting their identity with Sanders at QB and he has the storybook drama people love- skilled player cheated in the Draft and horribly disliked by the League. Silver-spooned kid of an indomitable former Allstar, both seen as arrogant and mouthy. The Niners are at a turning point with Pudy coming back for a game in the kind of weather he hates. I hope it gets played here as the early game!

Just announced Sanders should be QB for the remaining season. He made throws few can do, especially for a rookie, and he did not make any rookie mistakes. Last week, you could see The Guys love him. It tells us they will be reaching deep into themselves to make a statement with what's left in the next 6 games.Having 2 early draft picks, they need to know if they need a QB. SF is about to get a very rude awakening today!.

I think mentioning Arroyo might be prescient for this game because if the Viking rush is successful enough, the short passing game to tight ends seems like a good offensive strategy, along with the run game. Maybe both Barner and Arroyo benefit.

Goals:

1. Win

2. Again, I don't care if it's ugly or not.

3. Stay healthy! They're really thin at safety. I'm disappointed Love isn't going to be on the field, but I'm happy Knight and Ernest will be.

4. Run the damn ball. Not being able to ice the game last week put the defense on the field way too long. I don't think this QB will perform very well, even if he's more proficient at the short stuff, but Seattle has to run to milk clock. Minny will blitz, and probably they'll try to get fancy, emulating the Rams by muddling the middle of the field. They'll know Sam's weaknesses better than any recent team that's not the Rams, but as SSJ has pointed out, Minny isn't succeeding without blitzing and even while blitzing, they're not doing great.

However, look at Green Bay's basically grind-it-out game against the Vikings and you can see that their D didn't exactly fold. JJMC is just putrid, and he was hit hard and often. Which, of course, you'd expect is the game plan with Seattle if poor Max is facing any longer distance downs.

5. Didn't we trade some draft picks for a receiver a few weeks ago? Um, I'd kinda like to see him and Sam get on the same page, because wasn't that guy supposed to make it harder to double JSN? When is that going to happen? It's a luxury, again; WIN. Stay healthy. That's good enough. But Shahid getting into the mix would be kinda massive. Seattle has one more game that on the books should be "winnable" before they go into two massive swing contests against Indy and then the Rams in five days. You want Shahid to start to make defenses completely stuck on how to cover. You want him on crossers and JSN deep. Or a stack of Arroyo, Shahid and JSN all on one side, with hell to pay for that defense—and then you run a pitch to the other side, and their safeties are torched. So why hasn't this been possible?

Or... You would want Shaheed to score four TDs because the Rams weren't ready for him.

I remember before the AZ-SEA game there was a lot of talk about how the Cardinals offence functioned so much better under Jacoby Brissett. I thought to myself that the Seahawks game might quiet that talk down and it did. I know less about Brosmer then Brissett, but am feeling really good about the Seahawks chances this week.

Seaside Joe's avatar

Yeah and the Cardinals certainly do function a lot better with Jacoby Brissett than with Kyler Murray. The Vikings certainly do not function with McCarthy, as plainly evidenced against the Packers last week. Although backups functioning better than starters does not necessarily that the offense is going to be functional.

If the Vikings get all blitzy I'd love to see Arroyo getting more reps. We are fortunate to have TE's that can block and make recieving plays so well. With a Viking starting Guard out and a rookie QB our Defense should be feasting on Brosmerburger...YUMMY!! Would you like fries with that Big Cat?

Big Cat needs to substitute a side salad for the fries. He’s got to stay slim for the 95 yard pick 6 return.

I like your picks of K9 as a player to watch. I was very high on him in the offseason and predicted him to get 1400 yards on the ground in the offseason. It did not start well for him, as you pointed out in his 1st 8 games. It was also a relatively young and new O-line learning to gel. Almost everyone agrees the run game has taken steps forward recently. This is probably due to cohesion in the scheme and growth as a cohesive unit, coupled with fewer stacked boxes due to the pass game success. It seem unlikely we’ll see Walker getting 20+ carries, but his explosive run rate seems to be improving. maybe 1250 yards from him is a possibility. There also seems to be more of an effort to get him involved in the passing game. The explosive play potential here is huge! Short, high percentage passes and one missed tackle and he’s off the the races,

I know people are disappointed in the secondary receivers production, and so am i. But in their defense, Seattle is the only team in the NFL that throws the ball under 50% of the time. This cuts down on targets to the secondary receivers. Also, it’s hard to blame Darnold for excessively targeting JSN when he is having insane numbers of yards per target. He is so far above the second best player from a percentage standpoint, and his catch rate per target is so high, it is almost inhuman. Someone argued with me that other receivers had a higher rate of catches per target, but when you compare the depth of targets to JSN, he’s not finding success on 5 yard passes, he’s catching a very high percentage of intermediate and long balls. So… where am I going with this? I believe KK is very aware of the missed opportunities the secondary receivers like Arroyo can provide. I think work is being done to advance their contribution. Cut Shaheed some slack. He and Darnold have not gelled just yet. Horton was ready to break out when he went on IR. I expect we will see more targets going their way and more production from them soon. Maybe that’s Sunday.

If the vikings play this game as blitz happy as usual, K9 should have some great opportunities as a receiver.

By running routes during our run plays, my bet is JSN can tell Darnold where and when he'll be open when covered by the same guy. Might explain a few INTs.

On another topic. We have a four turn-over game, and we almost come back to win. Baltimore has a four turnover game and they get blown out. When that game was first posted it had dog game odds.

Correction: I got so overzealous with John Wolford's history that I mistakenly connected the dots in Jacksonville to Liam Coen even though Coen wasn't the coach last year. Also Mac Jones was the primary backup obviously.
