It is very difficult to know at this point what to pay Geno. There are 7 games left, if Geno steps to the plate and delivers like he has, Seattle is going to find a way to keep him. Free agency hits before the draft so the QB question is likely answered before free agency.

I applaud you on sticking to your guns in regards to Zach Wilson. I have never understood the fascination with Zach. He is not fit to be the leader of an NFL team yet, if ever. I wouldn't give you a bag of balls for him knowing what is out there. Pete values unselfish team players, ie Geno bidding his time working hard everyday.

The only issue with keeping Geno is do we have the other peices needed to support him. I think Geno will be realistic and so will the Hawks and all works out fine.

If they commit to Geno next year, it's voiding the 4 or 5 year rookie contract window, essentially. So, they have to also commit to the tighter cap this implies. Which means high-performing lower-cost players at multiple positions. Already have Tariq, Coby, Tre Brown, Charles and Abe, Boye and to a certain extent Brooks, Lewis, Haynes (unfortunately all nearing free agency) and a solid special teams core. So you gotta go get starter talent in the draft. Which generally means higher picks, although can always strike gold in Rds 4-7 (can also whiff completely). So if you're paying your QB $35m+, don;t think you can afford a high pick to sit on the bench for 3 years. Think you have to spend those on positional starters (say an edge, a DT, an LB and a 3rd WR) and hope you find a QB gem farther down the draft.

Maybe Grayson McCall?

I hope they resign Geno to a 3 year contract (at a rate PCJS are good with) and we draft someone like McCall for development.

Just say no to Zach Wilson. A big arm does not a quarterback make.

Geno plays just like Pete wants his QB to play. Why would the team move on from that….

With this years and next years draft haul, we’ll have 2-to-3 years of a bunch of starters (fingers crossed on the next draft influx) at a fairly low rate.

That sounds like a wide open window for contending for a SB. And wouldn’t it just be wonderful if the Hawks went to the SB in the next three years with Geno at the helm? I say that not in regards to RW3 or anything like that. I just love an underdog story and Geno’s is the best one in years and years.

I can only assume in addition to any negotiations with Pete/John, they will also tell him to go test the market and see what he finds. Pete/John will either alter their offer, or stand firm and wish Geno the very best with their thanks for a great season.

And I will be fine with however this shakes out.

Was it a source of friction on the Wilson teams that they never drafted a QB to compete with him? Always compete? Except at the QB position? I’m not sure I think Geno would object to the team drafting a developmental QB.

Maybe Denver or Las Vegas will trade with us for their 2024 first round pick. I found this little gem on Business Insider:

In 2009, ex-Broncos coach Josh McDaniels (current LV Raiders coach) made one of the more baffling draft day trades in recent memory.

He traded a 2010 1st-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2009 2nd-round pick.

That's not a typo.

The Broncos willingly traded a 1st-round pick for a 2nd-round pick. It was, predictably, an utter disaster. With that 2009 2nd-round pick (37th overall), the Broncos selected cornerback Alphonso Smith. He turned out to be a bust. The Broncos traded him to Detroit after one season, and he has been out of the league since getting cut by the Lions in November of 2012.

With the 2010 1st-round pick that they got from Denver (14th overall), the Seahawks selected Earl Thomas. He turned out to be one of the best defensive players in football, anchoring Seattle's No 1. ranked defense. He has made three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams.

What kind of contract can you offer Geno and still build a Super Bowl roster over the next three seasons? Will he accept that contract? How will this season end and how will our perceptions of the Seahawks QB situation change between now and then? What an interesting time to be a Seahawks fan!

I think the Jets are done with Zach Wilson. Or, I think benching him was a huge mistake unless they really are done with him. I can't think of another situation where a young QB with his draft status was benched and came back to find success with the same team. Is the plan really to give ZW more time to mature into the great QB we believe him to be, while we give ourselves the best opportunity to win a championship this year with Mike White? Does that sound like complete BS to anyone else?

The Bedazzled remake wasn’t bad, although not in the same league as the Peter Cook-Dudley Moore original. On the other hand, the original didn’t have Elizabeth Hurley in a Catholic school girl uni.

First: Are we aware that Brendan Frasier went to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle?

Second: Have we all seen 'The Whale'? He is BRILLIANT in this profound script.

Third: Here's my Christmas list:

*Keep Geno, and pay him like a 5-10QB, but not a top 5, in the Saffordsphere.

*Draft the top Interior Defensive Lineman

*Center

*Linebacker

*Another interior defensive lineman

last year, ComPete and Schnide listened to me as I shouted into the nothingness (2 O-Line and 1 CB!). I hope they listen to me this year, too.

If Smith would accept $100 million for three years write the check as fast as you can. Smith fits this team and Lock is learning behind him. If your bird in the hand isn't a turkey, don't get greedy. The Chiefs didn't know Mahomes was going to be a dominant QB when they drafted him. They hoped he would be good and they needed a successor to Smith. If we have the number 2 pick I'd much prefer to take Anderson or trade down since this is a rare draft where the top three picks would be in high demand. Dominant defensive players are expensive too so Anderson or Carter on a rookie contract would be welcome.

By all means, draft McCall, but still offer Geno a two or three year contract. I'm not sure why you think Geno is worth a lot more than the franchise tagged salary. He's not young. He will have only one season of being elite. And don't forget the lesson of Wilson. No, not Zac but Russell. We got a team to give us a King's ransom for RW3 and they ended up with a pumpkin. I think most organizations will temper their excitement with the lesson of Wilson.

I'm a Daoist, and we bend with the wind. We accept what is. If Pete is willing to let Geno go, then so be it.

Does anyone know how much longer Lock is under contract? I don't know how much time is left on his current deal but if the Hawks extend him I think that would be telling about how they feel about him and possibly what they'll do with Geno.

I could imagine the Seahawks placing the franchise tag on Geno and then trading him. That way Geno gets his long term contract but Seattle gets something too. After all, it was our team that gave him the chance to show what he could do.

Do I see Carroll and Schneider doing that? Hard to say. Or rather, "Sure, maybe". I wouldn't rule it out.

Was really surprised Wilson got benched. I doubt it's a smart move but no one asked my opinion. Saleh has to do what he thinks best. It's his ass on the line. Random guys on the internet get to speculate but that's all. Just the same, if it were me, I'd let him play, especially against the Bears.

Vision Board:

While Bruce Irvin cannot even count his Derek Carr pressures on both hands in the the Seahawks' post-game Locker-room, in the Raiders post-game locker-room, the following Beck song is heard playing: Soy un perdedor...(your Brendan Fraser knows this one)

Yep. That'd be cool.

Loving Rob's mock draft so far. Richardson, Levis, Stroud at 1, 2, 3; so 3 QBs going in the top 3. If we can get Jalen Carter, we have a better D line right away. Maybe his projected Will Anderson can grow into a good player, but Jalen Carter is the 2nd best player in the draft, and probably last year's draft too... to Bijon Robinson, who I'm gutted to see Rob having in at #6. Surely "running backs don't matter" enough to spend this kind of capital on them, so if we can land those 2 guys with our first round picks, nab McCall in the 4th, and hit on just one of the positions we need to boost (coverage linebacker, iOL, DL, wr3, and sadly, safety) we have a legitimate path to the Super Bowl in year 2 of the post Russell rebuild.
