Sorry you had so many painful experiences with sports as a kid, Kenneth, and that you lacked self confidence. I did too but I was a scrawny runt of a kid who was not at all athletic. Plus, I found another nail on which to hang my hat. But I look back on my childhood and early adulthood as super painful, as it is for anyone who doesn't get great parenting.

My wife's father is 6'3" and apparently our eight-year-old son got his height genes because he's on track to be about that. He consistently clings to the growth chart just above the 95th percentile and the 95th percentile is 6'2". Like all kids, like all humans, he has tremendous strengths and big challenges. He's super bright but, like me, not at all athletic. He's probably on the autism spectrum, but then I likely am too. The difference is that he has a really wonderful mom who adores him. So I think he'll emerge into adulthood feeling pretty self confident and he'll find his way much more effortlessly than many of us.

As for these QBs, it's striking how much risk there is no matter who one picks. That's how the Cardinals could invest so much in Rosen and then wind up picking Murray with another really high pick soon after. Same could easily happen to the Seahawks. As Bruce Hornsby said in another context, that's just the way it is. Some things will never change.

Bruce was trying to guide our society past its bigotry and was really saying it can be different. But picking QBs really is like that. A craps shoot within the craps shoot that is the NFL draft.

Thanks Parallax, and thanks for sharing! Yes, I do forget this sometimes but it's important to remember, to let my expectations go completely. I can say "Well, this is what I think/want to happen" but I'm wrong so often, that I let go of being disappointed. It would have been easy to be disappointed that the Seahawks "only drafted Russell Wilson" when the 2012 draft was over. Anything could happen.

I enjoyed your story, Kenny.

This year's class seems like the polar opposite of last year's QB class. It's possible that by December I'll see a different picture but right now there are almost too many tantalizing choices. Young... duh. Hooker is really enticing because of his low interception number coupled with significant production. He also has the Pete/John favorite of having overcome a bad situation. I'm really curious to see how he fares against Georgia and Alabama. If he passes those tests, he'll almost certainly be near the top of my QB board.

Question for anybody... how many QBs do you think will be taken in the first round in the 2023 draft?

I count nine teams that need a QB and at least a couple that might grab one if someone falls. So, I'll start the bidding with seven QBs taken in the first round.

Thanks Dale! Yes, I wrote that 2022 would be like the 2013 class and I will pat myself on the back for that one. I believe that 2023 is more like the 2012 class. And we know what happened there.

I think that counting up teams this early in the season does get complicated. While we could assume the very obvious teams (Seahawks being one), how could we know for sure the surprise teams? Like the Cardinals the year before drafting Kyler Murray, or even the Jets the year before drafting Zach Wilson, or the 49ers going mad to be the team that traded up for a QB? These all became obvious during draft season, but three weeks into the season, it wasn't so obvious that they would be more likely to draft QBs over some of these other franchises (WAS, DET, ATL, etc.)

Not to discourage the question, it's worth thinking about. I believe the class is good enough and the NFL is desperate enough for 4-5 QBs in the first round.

What's with the mystery shrouded Taulia birthday? I tried to find it, but it seems the entire internet can't figure out that there are two different Tagovailoas that play QB. I think this is my favorite thing about this group. Show me the birth certificate Hawaii!!

Also Cameron Rising needs to change his Instagram to something not "crising."

Also Tyler Van Dyke too closely resembles Robert Van Winkle (a.k.a. Vanilla Ice).

There were a couple QBs, I couldn't find their birthdays for. Jalon Daniels and Chance Nolan (now off the cast) were two others. Maybe just something that doesn't get revealed until draft season perhaps.

I had the same thought on "crising"

Assuming that Bryce Young IS considered the best QB and the Hawks have the 1st pick (or are able to trade for it) would you go for him or for Will Anderson to anchor the Defense? My hope is that somehow the Seahawks get Mr. Anderson and later choose Grayson who hopefully will still be available.

KJ Jefferson is a good QB but just don't see him as one that can win the Superb Owl (though he could be an additional QB used in special situations, maybe also like the fullback mentioned in another post. And this comes from a Razorback Rooter from Ark-in-saw, sig is Razor Hawk at FG).

I think that's worthy of its own post, Charley! I will write up something about having the number one pick. I really need to do a lot more research into Will Anderson. Is he Myles Garrett-esque or Jadeveon Clowney-esque? Much different prospects.

I always think of you when I write about KJ.

I just assume Young will not be 'gettable' for the Seahawks unless the team falls completely apart and has the #1 overall pick, so... Jefferson maybe is the most Seahawky in this tribe?

Ken, you and I follow each other on twitter (dougthecoach) and if there is something I can help with (google sheets are something I use all the time) I would be happy to help.

Thanks Doug! You know what would be really cool? It would be great to start a database that sorts each quarterback with their offensive scheme in college and what offenses they would be best suited for. How many are taking snaps under center? Who needs the most work to transition to a Seahawks-like offense? Having each of their schemes would be HUGE for us! I really want QB Survivor to be fun, but I also want it to be more informative than anywhere else on the internet. Working together as a unit, Seasiders can definitely be QB EXPERTS this year.

Thanks Joe! I do find that narrative so odd because many of our historically injured QBs were big, burly, slow, statuesque. Andrew Luck wasn't necessarily slow, but look at how he literally wore down in front of our eyes in such a short period of time.
