If we lose to the 49ers it's time to give playing time to the youngsters. Bench those players who won't be back next season, both Fants, Laken, Jones, Hankins and try Forsythe at RG. Nothing to lose now!

Let's hope Abe Lucas doesn't come to a similar conclusion after a few games. And I type that knowing Williams' retirement is said not to be injury related. I'm not necessarily a fan of JS but my guess is he did the best he could with what was available and it turned out wrong. I just hope this doesn't indicate something wrong in the locker room.

Best wishes to Conner. Must have been an agonizing decision for him to make.

This is just the latest episode in the disastrous decision-making that has been Schneider’s reign as GM over the last 8 years (yes, I realise Williams might NOT have retired because of his knee, but odds on it is). Should have gone with Pete, whose reputation is only increasing when witnessing how the roster and cap situation has declined this year.

It's different for every player, but it seems some don't really come alive until given a chance on a real football field, and gain lots of experience. I hope Olu takes advantage of this opportunity. Go Hawks, gosh darn it. But I use more salty language when not before more refined people.

Refined? Have you met us? 🤣

This does not inspire confidence.

FYI the other Fant is missing this weeks game again. But we don’t have Brady either. He’s out with a foot injury. That leaves our rookie and a horrible first rounder receiver moved to WR Kneal with Pharoh.

Usually, you get what you pay for. When we are constantly shopping on the closeout rack, we're rarely going to get a hidden designer gem. If so, there is a stain, hole, or loose string that will unravel soon. You're really hoping for good enough, but I think we've been at the low end of good enough for too long.

Best wishes to him. I hope he enjoyed the city and team while he was here and has success in his non-football life.

Double on this. Good Fortune, Mr. Connor Williams !

Fant placed on IR as well.

Free agency and the Seahawks…not a match made in heaven.

I was wondering if that was a bigger deal then he or the team was letting on . You could see at times he was definitely weaker/favoring the one side. Too bad he couldn't get healthy, and get back to even close to what he was last year!

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

What part of Miami saying he wasn't healthy did we choose not to hear? Mr. William's agent was the first to hail his "recovery". What does that say about the state of the Industry? Excuse me, the Sport?

Doug's avatar

3 million which Williams has already booked this year is a lot of money. Can’t fault a feller from trying’. But, yeah. As my Dad always advised “if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn’t.”

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

Has the smell of desperation, to me. Not good, all around. Ken is spot-on in suspecting it. Maybe Schneider has been buying time for our rookies.

Doug's avatar

Or it could have been buying a lottery ticket.

It is so unusual for a vet C to have issues SNAPPING THE FOOTBALL, and MM said his knee was not a problem, so something else going on “between the ears”.

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

True that. I suspect a whole slew of sins get tagged under the "injury" tag. Benching a guy for poor play/lack of effort is not seen much in this kinder/gentler atmosphere. And hell, nobody wants the entire League to know the state of your locker room. There's no cooking up a good meal with this development. Let's just hope Oluwatimi is the secret sauce needed.

Paul G's avatar

Except that this one is specifically not under the injury tag. In this case, speculation is pointless. Take the Hawk and Williams at their words and move on.

Bobric's avatar

I thought that Oluwatimi was #3 on the depth chart behind Sundell? This game has gone from bad to worse. Boss is going to have a field day I fear.

Doug's avatar

OluOlu was always the #2 C, it could be Sundell is a C/G backup and due to numbers was active when Olu was a healthy scratch.

zezinhom400's avatar

Ok then, back to Square One. Hope Sundell becomes the next Jim Langer bc I’m not sure Ole will pan out. Although maybe he’s been watching and learning.

Do feel bad for Williams though. Having to play all three interior OL positions by yourself is like playing till you’re 30 when you’re still only 27. Like OL dog years.

Doug's avatar

On the one hand WTAF?!!

On the other hand… GOOD! OluOlu is the future at C. He did not look out of place in his start last year. He is smart, tough, and maybe has a bit more strength to hold up in pass pro. His run blocking will be an improvement, and no more high snaps to QB.

Paul G's avatar

Ray Roberts says that while Olu’s technique is fine, he doesn’t explode off the ball and—so far—he has not shown that he can,put DL’s on the ground.

Quint's avatar

I wouldn't say for certain it's the knee issues that forced his retirement. Might be something else entirely that made him decide this is the moment to step away from football and focus on the more important things in life.

rpmschevy's avatar

They did say it wasn’t the knee. Said “personal” without further information. But specifically knee came up and wasn’t that.

Seaside Joe's avatar

My intention wasn't to imply that he was physically unable to play, as in pain, but more that the road blocks of several devastasting career knee injuries would derail any player's best laid plans. How I wrote it was a bad way to put it, which is the kind of mistake I tend to make while trying to hit breaking news as fast as possible. Thanks for pointing this out, so I can be better about it next time.
