DK Metcalf trade scenarios that I would call 'reasonable'
How the Seahawks could use DK Metcalf as a trade chip instead of a trade target to improve the future of the Seattle franchise: Seaside Joe 1867
Tantalizing NFL trade news would not be so intriguing if those moments weren’t so rare, but Seahawks GM John Schneider has had a relatively long history with making such headlines. However, those moves were usually acquisitions under the reign of Pete Carroll: Percy Harvin, Jimmy Graham, Jamal Adams, Jadeveon Clowney, Duane Brown, Sheldon Richardson, and Leonard Williams to name seven.
One of the few players going the other way also happened to be one of the biggest NFL trade stories of all-time.
Usually when the topic of trading DK Metcalf is brought up it comes from a place of wanting to see the Seahawks get at least one additional first round pick in order to save cap space and invest resources into “needs”. Previously I wrote a letter to Seattle radio’s Mike Salk to explain why trading Metcalf for a first round pick would not save cap space, then I took another step to breakdown why I don’t believe the Seahawks could get one entire first round pick for Metcalf.
So in today’s Seaside Joe, I’m not writing about a DK Metcalf trade scenario because I think the team should trade the two-time Pro Bowl receiver while his value is as high as it is likely going to get. Instead, I’m looking at it from the perspective of: “If I was John Schneider and I wanted to improve my roster by getting to a certain outcome, then offering DK Metcalf to the team I’m talking to about a trade could get it done.”
Trading DK Metcalf straight up for a first round pick? I don’t think that’s going to happen. Trading Metcalf for another player, like a guard for example? Player-for-player trades are rare and require a “Goldilocks Zone” set of circumstances. Trading Metcalf for the sake of it because the team is just anxious to be different with a new coaching staff? Doesn’t seem to be in the best interest of the Seahawks.
However, trading Metcalf because it could save the team money in the long-term and potentially upgrade the position if the opportunity to make a deal presents itself?
I have a few trade proposals involving DK Metcalf that would make sense and be a justifiable reason for the Seattle Seahawks to make headlines for a blockbuster deal.
