The other day I wrote that the only defensive head coach who was a total failure in 2024 was Dennis Allen, but I was so fixated on current coaches that I overlooked Robert Saleh, Matt Eberflus, Jerod Mayo, and Antonio Pierce, all of whom were fired. So while the defensive head coaches group lived on the fringes, there were just as many flops as success stories.

The notable story for defensive coaches this year is not the ones who are the head coach, but the ones who only run the defense:

  • Four-time Super Bowl winner Steve Spagnuolo has coached in 11 conference championship games since 2001

  • Vic Fangio is in his 24th season as a defensive coordinator or head coach, but has never won the Super Bowl

The Seahawks head coach will continue to call plays for the defense in 2025 and the pressure to fix the offense now belongs to Klint Kubiak. On Monday, I wrote about each offensive position that will need to be addressed in the offseason and the best way to go about filling those roles.

Today: DEFENSE.
