I think now every time Myers almost misses a kick I'm gonna shout "Mater dei!" and clutch my chest.

There are two different Mater Dei High Schools - the three Heisman trophy winners went to Mater Dei in Santa Ana (Orange County). This is the high school wikipedia page that you linked to. Jason Myers went to Mater Dei in Chula Vista, which is in San Diego. Although these high schools share the same name and are both Catholic schools, there is no link between them.

An origin story on a place kicker. I am hopeful for one on an offensive coordinator.

Reply won't be any different than the last 3 requests you made, haha. I appreciate anyone's commitment to a bit like this one, I still have a lot of other articles to get to and your patience may pay off, even if you wait years.

I suppose if you can kick it farther than all of your peers you keep on getting opportunities, even with mediocre accuracy. He finally gets some real coaching and turns into an NFL pro bowler. So, Jason Myers origin story is basically the same as Happy Gilmore. Does that make Josh Scobee Shooter McGavin?

I love that movie but my gf won't watch it with me.

Should I get a new girlfriend?

It is your differences, and not your similarities, that make your relationship special.

Plus, Happy Gilmore requires a certain level of maturity to appreciate that many women lack.

Nice stack!

Rick (The Dunking Dutchman) Smits was a first-round NBA draft choice (#2 overall) out of Marist in 1988. Smits had a productive 12-year career in Indianapolis.

That's interesting, didn't know that!

Myers has more touchbacks than Hauschka because the league made touchbacks more common and desirable to the returning team. This will be impacted much further this coming season, as touchbacks will include fair catches behind the 25 yard line.

He's still one of the best kickoff specialists, as he was in college. In 2022, the Seahawks gave the 4th worst field position to opponents on kickoffs (24.72 yd line). Since 2020, we've been consistently giving average field position worse than a touchback to our opponents.

And much more accurate than detractors recognize.
