How Mike Macdonald, Julian Love, and Charles Cross stood out above the rest in Week 1's streaming Seahawks content: Seaside Joe 2019

I’ve been thinking of changing the name of “Seaside Streams” to something like “Stop Starting Podcasts” because I don’t know how anyone could have enough time in the week for the growing number of new NFL shows, podcasts, and breakdown channels that have hit us lately in addition to all of the old ones. Sometimes I’ll be asked to bring back one of my old podcasts and I appreciate it but wouldn’t you rather listen to Lofa Tatupu? Or Marshawn Lynch and Michael Robinson? Or Richard Sherman? How about Bill Belichick, Peyton Manning, Jon Gruden, or Chris Long?

Even on 2x speed, nobody has enough time to watch or listen to all of the interesting shows about football anymore.

You can now watch the first half of Monday Night Football every week with a Hall of Fame coach and a Hall of Fame quarterback breaking down the game, and Eli Manning is also there. This is in addition to Belichick’s new weekly podcast co-hosted by Matt Patricia. Gruden also made his return to broadcasting last week on YouTube and has plans to bring back Gruden’s QB Camp next. Sherman will tell you his thoughts on Mike Macdonald’s defense pretty much every week on his podcast. And he might only spend a few minutes doing it, but if you want more in-depth analysis than that you can go to Lofa Tatupu and he’s going for at least 2 hours every week. If you want to read Seaside Joe’s thoughts, that’s what a daily newsletter is for. But if you want to watch or listen to thoughts on the Seahawks and the NFL in general, there’s never been a better time to be alive because now we’re getting information and opinions directly from the people who basically invented modern football. And these are only a sample of what’s out there today.

That’s another thing the Seaside Joe newsletter is good for: When I’m not creating the best YouTube content, I’ll point you in the direction of those who are.

This week’s Seaside Streams (which after further thought, sounds like what someone might call it when they take a pee break on a fishing trip) or “Stop Starting Podcasts” is plentiful with hours of good Seahawks-related content to watch this week. An hour of Seahawks defense (most Bo Nix offense) with The QB School

Right after the game ended, I wrote that I was hoping J.T. O’Sullivan would make a video about Bo Nix and he delivered:

There were definitely some drops by Broncos receivers that may have cost Nix a couple of plays that would help his day look a lot better on paper. There were also a few throws that QB School essentially said are “not what you typically see in the NFL” and at least three dropped INTERCEPTIONS in the first half alone. The two big reasons that I really wanted to see this video are a) because you should hear from an expert that Nix was bad and b) Seattle’s defense will give up more catches, more yards, and more explosive plays if they play like this against better teams.

That’s just a fact. Courtland Sutton has a big drop at about 13:00 in the video. At 8:00ish, Nix overthrows a wide open receiver for what would have been a big chunk gain. The hour is mostly about Nix and Sean Payton obviously, but you’re also going to get that much time in All-22 with Seattle’s defense as a former journeyman QB explains what’s going on. It’s worth your time!

I don’t expect the Patriots will be the offense that exposes any soft openings in the Seahawks defense (their leading receiver in Week 1 had 31 yards), but what about Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in Week 3? Sam LaPorta, Jameson Williams, and Amon-Ra St. Brown in Week 4? Seattle’s defense has to play MUCH tighter in the coming weeks than they did against the Broncos because Bo Nix and his supporting cast do deserve some of the credit for stopping Nix and the Broncos.

It’s all-Love with All_22

As you’re watching this 12-minute breakdown of Macdonald’s defense from a Ravens fan, I want you to keep in mind that YOU helped create this video. When I started sharing All’s videos last year (he is a big Boye Mafe fan so I think that’s why he started covering some Seattle tape) I don’t think he had planned to do much Seahawks contnet. But because Seahawks fans show up and support so well, he’s basically doing Seahawks content every week now.

I encourage you to keep watching, liking, and commenting on his videos (All_22 has a Patreon here if you want to support) about the Seahawks, as it is only going to create more of the Seahawks content that you crave.

Cross me once, shame on you

It’s been a great week for the Hot, Medium, Mild post game reaction because my top-ranked players included Julian Love, Riq Woolen, Tyler Lockett, Kenneth Walker, and Charles Cross.

Essentially, the five players who have looked better and better as the week goes on, minus Devon Witherspoon and Boye Mafe. (Again, sorry about that!) Macdonald specifically shouted out Woolen first when asked which players stood out to him and then Love, Walker, and Cross have gotten the most love from the NFL community this week.

On Cross, he was a player drumming up a lot of hype in the offseason and training camp for the progress he made. Then in the PFF post-game show, they said his run blocking film was absolutely dominant, as in one of the best games by a tackle in years. People are now talking about Cross in the way that you’d expect of a left tackle who will be mentioned with “top-100 lists” and honors if it continues for the whole season. The Football Scout is back with a new Seahawks OL video, this time highlighting Cross instead of Olu Oluwatimi or Anthony Bradford, which seems like a smart idea:

The Seahawks can cross off their need at left tackle. One down, four to go.

Run Blocking Schemes

I’m still trying to hunt down more videos and more channels about the Seahawks, but this is the meat of what I’ve found so far and there isn’t anything I know of yet on Geno Smith’s first game of 2024. So if you find some videos on Geno or any other Seahawks, please share them with me!

Brian Baldinger did post some clips on Twitter this morning, like one on Kenneth Walker, DK vs Patrick Surtain, the Zach Charbonnet touchdown, and the two Broncos safeties.
