Leonard Williams is the Matt Stafford of defensive players
Plus the Seahawks sign Quandre Diggs (soon)
The Seahawks are the verge of signing Quandre Diggs to the practice squad, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, and have released Derion Kendrick.
The fact that Diggs and Tyler Lockett were both released by the Titans within a couple weeks of each other, coupled with Tennessee being 1-10, had me thinking about a phenomenon that may or may not be entirely coincidental:
Teams with former Seahawks are terrible.
1-10 Titans: Lockett (released), Diggs (released), Cody Barton, Dre’Mont Jones (traded)
2-9 Raiders: Pete Carroll, Geno Smith, Lockett (now), Jamal Adams, Stone Forsythe
2-10 Giants: Russell Wilson (3 starts)
3-8 Moons: Bobby Wagner, Dan Quinn, Jacob Martin
3-8 Bengals: Noah Fant
4-7 Dolphins: Jordyn Brooks, Tyrel Dodson
6-5 Steelers: DK Metcalf
3-8 Cardinals: Evan Brown
6-5 Texans: Laken Tomlinson
6-6 Panthers: Damien Lewis, Michael Jackson
5-5-1 Cowboys: Brian Schottenheimer
(I include the Steelers and Panthers because they’re both fading fast.)
Oh sure in some cases these associations are weak. You could still practically build a roster and a coaching staff with a sizeable list of names here who won’t be in the playoffs. Or for someone like Tomlinson who might make the playoffs, Houston already benched him.
This is not meant to be Seaside Joedenfreude. I just found it interesting.
And yes, a few guys are on successful teams, including Poona Ford and Colby Parkinson on the Rams. Will Dissly hasn’t seen much action for the Chargers this season and they’re also in danger of missing the playoffs. See any notable omissions?
In any case, it appears that Seattle is preparing to put Diggs back into the mix as Ty Okada joins the list of injured Seahawks safeties. By releasing Kendrick the team now has 2 open spots on the 53-man roster and Diggs won’t even take one of those. Activating Julian Love or Eric Saubert is possible, but the team hasn’t even opened their practice window yet.
Given the state of the defense, Diggs is probable to be elevated this weekend against the Vikings to make his first appearance with the Seahawks since 2023. It’s not like they need to wait for him to develop.
