Live Chat Tonight: Seahawks + Mariners!
Really it's a Seahawks chat, but I fully expect it to be about both
We all have those sports moments that we’ll never forget. We remember where we were, what we were doing, the environment right down to the smells. We’ll probably even misremember most of those things, but we keep certain moments pinned to the top of our sports memory banks. I’ll never forget the day that I opened up ESPN.com, so innocently, and sat in stunned silence as I saw the headline that the Sonics had traded Gary Payton to the Bucks for Ray Allen.
Before Twitter, before Facebook, when we could still get breaking news practically by accident. If the Payton trade happened today — if the Sonics were still where they belong — you’d have 5 alerts within 5 seconds of the news breaking. A tweet, a text…an amazing daily newsletter?
Sometimes we have experience these moments without warning, like the Payton trade, but other times it’s hyped events. A Super Bowl. A draft night.
Or the Seahawks playing on Monday Night Football (at 7:00 PM???) AS the Mariners face the Blue Jays in the first Game 7 of their franchise history.
Will this unique doubleheader live up to the hype? There’s only one way to find out and I invite everybody to experience October 20, 2025 together in the Seaside Joe live chat! The experience will be open to all — free subscribers and Regular Joes — so all you need to do is get the Substack app and join the chat when it goes live:
I’ll be back with the postgame report to the Seahawks game after it ends, same as every other night, so this is not the official newsletter for Monday. That will be later, the 2,422nd day in a row of Seaside Joe, and I’ll expect to see you there too.
Anything you want to get off your chest now before Seattle becomes the world’s fare on Monday night? (Like a sports feast for the eyes.)
Yes, I do want to get this off my chest: you may not count this post as an official newsletter but THE REST OF US DO. And we LOVE these in-game chats and if that's all we received today, all of us would say Day 2,422 is complete.
Which just adds to the value we get from SSJ -- already have a dramatic memory from the Gary Payton trade and an acknowledgment today may be the biggest single day in Seattle sports history given Mariners Game 7 AND Seahawks playing for 5-2 and a share of the division lead (although Super Bowl XLVIII may always wear that crown forevermore).
Thank you for your diligence Kenneth, that's what I want to get off my chest
All of my life there was an unwritten rule that our Teams would insist their games be telecast on air to their hometown fans. Today will be a first this doesn't happen with either our Baseball or Football folks. It's just WRONG. And it is obvious a huge portion of the national audience will be headed to bed at 10 PM Eastern. Bad things happen to those who forget where they come from. I'm not so pissed as disgusted. It's worse than watching the officials award the Giants a last-minute winning TD against the Bronco's. Thank god for those boys righting the wrongness of it in 33 seconds.
