One of the most disappointing Seahawks and was a disappointing Bronco too. Has the tools but can't see anyone trading for that salary (because he's disappointing). So I've had him on my "release" list for the $9m cap savings and will be glad to see him go.

Much prefer AJ Barnes and think this is a promising TE draft so let's not blow cap money on a TE (bc who knows who will be the next Jonnu Smith), let's instead draft one and then let's play Brady Russell to replace our #3 TE Pharaoh Brown (who should just crawl back into his sarcophagus). Plus as you say, Kubiak doesn't seem to be terribly TE-prone so no sense overspending the position

I like what you did there.

I think Barner is better by a Nile.

Giza me a break! We have to Cairo-fully build this roster with players who have shown they can play. Schneider cannot be in de-Nile about that. Cleopatra on the back if he decides to move on.

I'll be here all week, try the veal.

Maybe he can walk like an Egyptian but he certainly can’t run like an NFL TE

Take whatever you can for Fant or cut him and save 9 mill. After 7 years and very little production it's fair to say he's a bust. Barner had a good rookie season and has a much higher ceiling at a much lower contract. No brainer!

I would humbly suggest that Fant has a much, much higher ceiling. Barner is already a better player, but his physical attributes don't come close. There's a reason that each was drafted where they were. But that said, I'm over the Fant experiment and ready to move on as well. Let another team see if he ever breaks out.

I don't know, I don't think Fant has the desire to play that Barner does and that may be the most important attribute in deciding the ceiling height. Regardless, if Fant cannot block well, all he does is telegraph the play call. Give me a slightly lower ceiling while maintaining some deception in the play call any day.

I’ve seen enough of Fant to part ways for a 4th rounder in 2026. Barner is already a better blocker, and I expect he will continue to improve as a receiver and a blocker. This is a deep TE draft class and a solid number 2 TE could be obtained in the 4th round who may have upside potential. The 9 million would pay most of the salary for Becton at right guard. To me that makes the Hawks a better team than keeping Fant and hoping that fantom potential will ever bear fruit.

I just don’t think many players have “the light go on” for them in their SEVENTH season. I’m up for a trade if possible, cut if not.

It's too bad we didn't get at least one good player (not including guys we drafted) out of the RW trade. Going back to that Denver roster for Dre Jones as a FA only makes it hurt a bit more. It's crazy that despite the disappointment, we still got the better end of that trade by a long shot.

I hope there is some GM out there that would bet on Fant's potential (and JS has for too long) and offer something in trade for him. The $9 million price tag isn't too bad if you view him as a TE1 and are willing to extend him on a new 3-year deal or something. Just not in Seattle.

Fant is a good player who had the wrong head coach and then the wrong OC.

I'm not sure whether the light hasn't gone on for Fant, or the Seahawks offensive coordinators......or the QB. Smith is a good example. Not much, not much, pro bowl. What changed other than the team he played for? Did he improve that much in his 7th year? No. He was used differently in a different system, and the talent was probably always there, hidden away.

Fant could very easily have had 800 yards for the Seahawks, we just didn't ask that of him. Every once in a while Grubb would dial up a delayed TE release (after starting in pass pro) and they worked almost every time. He just didn't call it much.

I don't know what Fant is capable of, but could easily see him going to another team and being twice the player (by receiving yards) he was in Seattle. I expect more TE utilization in Kubiak's system, so we'll need some capable bodies there.

My issue how much is this Fant vs play calling and Geno? Everyone looks at catches and such but he’s only 22nd in pass attempts thrown. His avg YPC is much higher, more than Dissly. Is he worth that 2025 contract? No. But Geno isn’t either. Or DK. Bowers got 2.5 times more pass attempts. Fant had that he would have 1000 yards. I’ve been frustrated for years that Hawks OC under utilized TE. Juwan had 2 more attempts but he’s never been great. Remember we had Jimmy and he never looked like he was with Brees because we didn’t call his number.

Strongly agree here. Worth bearing in mind that this is considered a pretty strong draft at TE, with any one of Warren, Loveland and Fannin likely to be available at #18 (at least 1 would likely be picked before us but unlikely all 3 are gone) and some quality guys like Arroyo, Taylor (LSU) and Brinningstool are potential day 2 picks as well. AJ Barner looked pretty promising last year and I wouldn't be mad to see him as the tip of the spear in that group with some vet-min guys around him either.

Unrelated: I read a TST article yesterday on the potential of a Kupp trade, after the first 2 lines and was like "yeah, I know who wrote this".

I suspect the fact that it IS a strong TE class lowers Fant's trade value. As does his contract.

I can't imagine another team excited to get this guy. Just release him and maybe he can find a place where he can be the best version of himself. It seems clear that ain't in Seattle.

A 2026 fourth round draft pick is asking a lot for a currently underwhelming $9 million dollar player. I believe teams can get a later round draft pick (rookie contract) that can have equal or even a little better results.

A change of scene might be best for Fant. He’s had the misfortune of playing for Pete Carroll (whose Platonic ideal of a TE was Zach Miller) and the not-ready-for-prime-time OC Ryan Grubb.

Fant will be released. He is not worth the price, and regardless of draft spot, he never will be. Get a younger player to grow with Barner
