How Seahawks fans reacted to Russell Wilson trade, most believe Seattle is TANKING 2022!
What's next for the Seahawks at quarterback and in the 2022 draft? YOU TELL ME!
Within an hour of the Seattle Seahawks trading Russell Wilson to the Broncos, I reached for my favorite source of comfort at times like these: asking how YOU feel about it.
I’ve always said that what FANS know about the Seahawks and about football stupendously outweighs what I will EVER know about football and that’s why I like leaning on fans to gain better and more informed opinions on these issues. And then I turn the mirror around and show you what the collective opinions are about the people, places, and things we hold so dearly.
In this case, the emotional and logical reactions to the Seahawks mutually parting ways with the greatest quarterback in franchise history.
Programming note: It occurred to me after sending out this morning’s Seaside Joe post about Pete Carroll’s 35 former first round picks that if you only read the article in the e-mail form, the final one-third of it got cut off entirely. If you thought that it ended with Steven Godfrey’s tweet about Matt Corral, it doesn’t; you’ll need to click the link or click the part that says “[Message clipped'] View entire message”. I’ll be more clear about this when it happens in the future.
Immediately following the trade, I created a short four-question survey with a chance to share your thoughts in a comments box. The instant reaction was not one of elation like it probably was for Broncos fans, but we’ve now had two days to try our best to process the news and hundreds of you have since voted.
Most of you are not happy that the Seahawks traded Wilson, but a lot of you are over the moon for Seattle’s new cache of draft picks and a potential foundational piece at tight end. Here are the results of Tuesday’s poll. New to Seaside Joe and want to exercise your right to vote next time? It’s imperative you hit this then:
More than 50-percent of Seahawks fans are NOT HAPPY with the trade
How happy are you with the fact that the Seahawks traded Russell Wilson under any circumstances?
With 1 being “I’M SO PISSED” and 5 being “I’M SO HAPPY”, the results couldn’t be more clear than this: 29% of Seahawks fans are the most pissed that they can be, while another 29% opted to fit their emotions right in the middle.
In third place was somewhere in between, as nearly 24% of Seattle fans expressed being upset—just not the most upset that they could be.
Were you one of the 4% who voted five? TELL US WHY:
But over 40-percent of Seahawks fans are happy with the RETURN
How happy are you with the haul from Denver: 2 firsts, 2 seconds, Drew Lock, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris and a day 3 pick swap?
The Seahawks parted with a Super Bowl champion at quarterback—you won’t see trades like that very often in history—but the return was also one of the best received in NFL history.
That’s why 29.5% of you voted a “4” on being happy with the return. Even though “5” was the least-popular answer, that’s still another 12% of Seahawks fans, pushing approval of the return on Wilson over 40% en total.
Over 1/3 of Seahawks fans anticipate a TANK JOB
Are the Seahawks tanking in 2022?
I’ve said for weeks now that 2022 is going to be “THE YEAR OF THE NFL TANK JOB.” Then the Seattle Seahawks entered the chat.
Last year, Seaside Joe also proposed the idea that if the Seahawks didn’t do something dramatic to get significantly better, they could be heading the way of the dreaded Houston Texans situation. On one hand, that’s unfortunately what happened: lose the franchise QB, already lost two first round picks because of Jamal Adams, find yourself in a hole that you can’t climb out of this year.
Fortunately, unlike the Texans, Seattle was able to recoup the two first round picks (and more) by actually trading the franchise QB.
Over 40% of fans say that it’s too soon to say if the Seahawks are tanking, but only 22% of fans believe they DEFINITELY aren’t. (They almost certainly are—which will be abundantly clear when they officially commit to Drew Lock and Gardner Minshew (or someone like him) after the first round of the draft.)
Over 40-percent of Seahawks fans want the team to draft a tackle, followed by edge rusher, then quarterback
Which position would you like the Seahawks to address with the no. 9 pick in the draft?
Nobody will be able to mistake Seaside Joe’s stance on the draft: The Seahawks must—and WILL-draft an offensive tackle. Or an edge rusher.

Perhaps influenced slightly by my pleas, 40% of you voted for OT, followed by EDGE. I am not going to badmouth those of you who voted QB, not at all, but I will probably do my best to convince you to join Joe on campaigning for a tackle.

You left HUNDREDS of great comments in the survey and I will be sorting through them and sharing the best answers SOON!
My comment regarding Gabe jackson. Yes flip him. put Lewis at his natural RG position.
An OT would be great, but a good Edge guy to flatten the new Denver quarterback would be nice too.
