Maybe the Seahawks need a better quarterback if they want to challenge for the Lombardi trophy. Geno is who we thought he is. He's a great QB to have as a backup to help win a game or two, but maybe he can not lead a team to the promised land. He has skills and toughness, but his "heat of the moment" decision making is maybe middle of the pack at best, maybe lower third. He is still prone to turn-overs, as evidenced by the number of interceptions that should have been this year. We still don't really know what the Hawks have in Drew Lock but based on past experience, maybe he is about the same. So, the Hawks need a quarterback. And defensive linemen. And offensive linemen. And defensive backs. And receivers. And maybe another running back. By my count, the Seahawks maybe need about 10 first and second round picks to become legitimate contenders in 2024. And to complicate matters, they need to hit on 8 out of 10. Or maybe they don't sign Geno to a crazy contract extension and maybe they go against Pete/John tradition and sign some quality free agents. Or maybe, well, maybe that's all the maybes we can excogitate. Maybe.
Geno is WAAAAY better than we all thought he was at the start of the season, not quite as good as we all thought a month ago, and better than he's looked the last three weeks. Give the guy a better OL, at least one more WR, two more RB's and he'll be in the pro-bowl again next year too.
Should the Seahawks sign him to a $30m per year extension based on this years results? I think that money would be better spent on other needs. Would Drew Lock or Gardner Minshew be just as effective for a lot less money? I can't really say because I'm just a casual observer and no expert, and I have been wrong at least once before. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !
I think Pete will be back in 2023 due to the year Seattle is having (even with losing last two games). Until the Seahawks fix their problems at RG and Center no QB / RB is going to play to potential. Seattle actually has a chance to bolster both lines in the draft. There are some interesting FA possibilities at many skill postions next year.
I think Seattle will have their hands full with the Jets Defense this week causing more problems for Seattle's offensive woes. I think Seattle is going to need the other teams (Jets, Rams) to make mistakes to win either game. Seattle is just busy shooting themselves in the foot.
Walker and the run defense makes for a little light at the end of the tunnel to finish the season. Geno needs to relax and quit trying to win the game. It clouds his judgement. (Run Geno Run). I hear Dennis Green shouting in the background "They are who we thought they were!". It's an emotional moment for us all.
I just rewatched the Dolphins Packers. Miami might want Geno ! Also the Patriots fumble where there back was stopped pushed backwards 3 yards then fumbled and it was called a fumble. Compared to our forced fumble against the Raiders that wasn't given is a joke. Where is the consistency the Patriots back had clearly been stopped, that should have been blown dead. Maybe ours should of, but when your on top of a pile you tried to jump and the play clearly has not stopped, where is the standard. No conspiracy just bad referee standards.
Things work out well if Seattle gets the earliest pick in the first round and latest in the second. That's more than fair, given how the difference between picks diminishes with each round.
As for the Denver pick, I'll be thrilled if it's #3. Higher than that is just gravy. Of course none of it means anything until we make our picks and see how they turn out. Even early first rounders can bust; we all know that. Happens all the time.
Personally, I have no interest in Seattle making the playoffs this year. I don't see the point since there's no way this team is making a deep run. Would rather have the best possible picks. I know not everyone agrees and I'm not saying I'm right. Again, no guarantee of picking better players. But I'd rather have the better chance to get better players and I'll hope against hope Schneider doesn't make overly "clever" head-scratcher picks (as was typical before last year's draft).
All of the wild card teams are going to lose in either the first or second round, so I can't entirely disagree with you but I'd rather watch the 'Hawks lose a playoff game than not watch TV at all. And I'm sure not gong to waste my weekend watching GB or WFT get slapped around.
To each his own. In no way do I consider your perspective wrong. Just, for me, I have zero desire to watch an noncompetitive Seattle team try to play a higher seed. I still have great memories of watching the Hawks pound the Eagles in a wildcard game. I'd rather take the year off and enjoy the higher draft pick.
I enjoy the games for sure but as one with no higher expectations than what the Seahawks have already accomplished, I am now looking forward to the off-season. Having some FA money to spend (although far less than most assume, because so few of our Hawks -33 I believe- are signed beyond this season) and a bevy of high draft picks makes for excitement beyond the end of the year.
The 2022 off-season success makes this upcoming 2023 off-season one for the ages. Plenty of speculation and debate to come. In the meantime, lets all enjoy the Holiday!
And Merry Christmas Seahawks fans, the Denver picks keep looking better and better. The Seahawks were once again "Winners" in the Winners and Losers article at MHR lol.
I'm not sure how likely that is, but it is interesting that Ethan Pocic is so much better with the Browns than he was with the Seahawks. Maybe just needed more time.
yah - big darn-o-darny-darn, the Hawks did not beat the Chiefs. As if it was Ever what level thinking fans could have expected. Expectations, as long as they remain in check, this season has truly been a success. We are better off enjoying what we have been a part of and look forward to a continued run on another championship perhaps hoisting a trophy at the end of the 2024 season.

I'd like to think we can win our last 2 games and sneak into the playoffs but Geno is starting to write back.

Thanks for explaining how the draft order of the 1st round affects the order of the 2nd round picks.
Merry Christmas to all Joes!
The Bears can win against the Lions, even though the Lions are a much better team, by doing the one thing they do well: run.
But my preference is to see both Lions and the Seahawks making the playoffs. It's a very unlikely scenario, but it's possible.

Perfect timing on this discussion Kenneth...

Merry Christmas, Doug!
How did Lewis do when he was filling in at center for the Hawks last year?
I'm not sure how likely that is, but it is interesting that Ethan Pocic is so much better with the Browns than he was with the Seahawks. Maybe just needed more time.
I watched the Seahawks game and just came away feeling...'UGH!' Then I watched the Broncos first half...well, Geno isn't all that bad after all! Lol
You will always have a home of friends and Seahawks family here at Seaside Joe. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Joe!
The only thing this season that was expected was the Chiefs at or near the top of the AFC. If Pete goes, so do a lot more coaches in the NFL.
