Great Article. I'd walk myself very similarly through the value we picked up in this years draft. The only wrench I'd throw into this would be Derrick Hall vs. Byron Young of LA. I still like Hall's upside, but I wish he had flashed a bit more at this point. I know he's a Moye-like development project, but Mafe showed up a few times when setting the edge that made you have a bit more faith in his development. Don't know enough to know if Young is more talented than Hall at this juncture or is Young just a product of a scheme and getting the snaps, but worth lkicking that can around a bit.

P.S. Appreciate the content. As a Seahawks fans holding down the fort in Puerto Rico, your deep dives are much appreciated down here in the sunny Caribbean. Keep up the good work!

You are probably right about Fant but one thing has been fairly obvious recently and that's the 3

TE sets that have been very successful. If Fant walks then Seattle will probably draft another TE better at blocking since I don't expect them to carry Dissly's contract because they need the cap space. There's also the possibility that Tyler Malbry may get a closer look. I understand that the talent for the 2024 at TE is richer than 2023's. I could see them getting a value player in the 3rd or 4th round. Seattle has just suplanted the FB with TE or what we used to refer to as the old H-Backs. I still think they want to contiue building on one of their most successfl offensive formations this year and that is the 3 TE sets. That only works if their is a receiving threat included.

re: any post-draft 2nd guesses - Not really... Maybe BJ Ojulari instead Derrick Hall? He has 4 sacks, Hall zero. BJ was taken by AZ 4 picks after we took Hall.

Belated Birthday wishes Ken.

I really like all the picks so far. Edge guys take till year two to start to really get it so Hall will come around. He hasn't seen many snaps either. More Hall less Clark. I really like Olu although I think Seattle will resign Brown as he can play both center and guard. The first 6 on the list I think will be long term Seahawks and impact guys. I think Reed at Safety has strong potential but was injured to soon to get a clear picture of his progress. He would have had some snaps with Adams out. Okata took those. (28% on Monday). Young I still haven't heard much about which may be good or bad. His snap counts like Adams have decreased since Williams came on board. Brady Russel might be part of the Dissly decision for next year. I think Seattle resigns Fant and Parkinson. Other adds in 2023 (UDFA) I think will be important moving forward. LB Drake Thomas on IR will be part of Seattle's plan for 2024. John Harbaugh was pissed when Seattle grabbed him off the PS. The Ravens have a pretty good reputation on evaluating LB talent. I think Thomas and Bell are both being stashed for 2024. (both on IR). Okata, Bryant and Reed will quite possibly have bigger roles in 2024 at Safety. O'Connol may also contribute in 2024. Morris is an unknown until he plays. Bradford along with Lewis and another draft pick at guard should shore up the interior along with Brown resigned. Seattle also needs to address a true swing tackle next year and spend a 3rd round pick on it or find a journeyman in FA.

I think Seattle is poised with a couple of adds in the 2024 draft / FA to actually improve their defense.

If Seattle could address their LB situation they could really improve in 2024. I expect Seattle to make some strong cap cuts in 2024 to resign the best and later on with the rest.

Happy Birthday!

I wish Pete would play young / faster guys and forgive a few mistakes, versus use vets that he trusts but are past it. The always compete thing doesn't apply equally all the time.

Hall should not be losing snaps to Frank Clark, just like Mafe should not have lost snaps to Bruce Irvin. Did Mafe really 'figure things out' in the off season, or did Irvin finally get out of his way? Same with Hall and and Clark this year. Next year Clark will be gone, and Hall will 'figure it out.' (Alton Robinson never got the chance.)

They should have left Brooks at MLB and put Bush at OLB. We've never even seen Bush, but Bobby refuses to leave the field. How is that allowed when his pass pro is not all pro? I love him too, but...

They should have cut Belore and put Levi Bell on the roster instead. We keep saying we need edge rush, and that was Bell. If we used a FB like the 49ers do, it might make sense, but we don't, and Bell even played some FB in the preseason. But Belore is one of Pete's guys.

They shouldn't have paid Dissly and blocked Parkinson. Blocking TE's with Will's stats are plentiful.

Bobo scores a couple incredible TD's early, then makes a mistake not relaying a play change or something to Lockett, and they stop throwing him the ball - for the rest of the season? WTF?

Tyreke Smith was part of the return for trading Russ, but they wrote him off early and lost him to a practice squad claim before we ever saw him play. Meanwhile Darrell Taylor gives up on half of his pass rushes after initial contact. We had free agent LB's playing better in camp.

And Jamal Adams was clearly not playing better than other competing options. They built a lot of their defense around an injured player. If Love had been in a fair competition with Adams, he would have been playing instead. (see: SEA vs. PHL)

Let everyone really compete.

(rant mode off, sorry...)

I just watched the game again, and noticed that Julian Love was playing free safety and that means Quandre Diggs was playing strong safety and Okada came in when they used three safeties. This makes us wonder where they will insert Adams when/if he returns. Joe might know if the teams needs Adams healthy at some date that might discourage using him anymore?

Quite Interesting! I don't disagree with anything you said/stated- I was a big fan of taking Carter, and it was hard for me to accept DW at #5, BUT I'm beginning to see if used properly he could be a GREAT player! GO HAWKS !!!!!

Happy birthday, Kenny! Mad that I didn't have this in my calendar, because I'd have sent you some cooking stuff. Like most of us, I love any Clark photos, and especially love the strange, strange mix that he his! I'm guessing you used Wisdom Panel, because surely they're the only ones with that much dog DNA data. Folks here might know that dogs are my passion and what I do for a living and it's a rare day (like 1/365, similar to not knowing it was Kenny's B-day!) that a dog breed pops up that I've never laid eyes on. "10% Volpino Italiano" made me put on my reading glasses. I *might* have met one that I guessed was an American Eskimo some 20 years ago. But it wasn't memorable, unlike like your posts on the website my brain cannot come up with for the life of me that preceded Field Gulls. I kind of still remember your profile pic there though. I want to say that you were smiling in front of a hedge of shrubs with a brick wall backdrop, but memory is a funny thing. At any rate, I hope this was a fantastic birthday and 41 (you sweet summer child) is your best year yet!

To move on with to Seahawks, to use a Pete phrase, I "friggin'" ADRORE our last couple of drafts and feel like they were masterclasses. As much as I wish we could have drafted Stroud (or Young or AR15), I don't care for trading the farm for one prospect if you don't think they're the next Mahomes. And I'm fine that they didn't. Looking at the roster at the end of last year, we needed OL, DL, EDGE, CB, WR, RB (I know we have K9, but one guy rarely survives a season), LB, and QB. At pick 5, they took the best player in the draft considering ability, attitude, and character. 'Spoon is going to be an institution. I have not one worry in the world about JSN's future. Get the best FRIGGIN' football players you can add to your roster, and let the rest sort itself out. I'm sure that would seem a simplistic and ignorant take to an NFL GM, but I'm also sure adding talent at a position of strength isn't the worst thing considering injuries and potential trade value. But what do I know? I only know Happy birthday Ken and Go 'Hawks!

Happy Birthday Ken. It is impossible to Out-Gift the instinct you were born with which separated Signal from Noise in an immensely complicated system full of clever feints and intentional diversion's. Guys like John Schneider are paid huge sums for be very very good at it. Young man, that is incredibly rare. I, for one, will not let go of your performance in this last Draft. I will be honored to provide backup financing of any bets that come your way in this upcoming Draft. (smile/wink) I'm serious! (smile/wink)

My instincts tell me the PC/JS team will suss out another QB surprise nobody saw. Our Hawks have a history of doing so, as we saw when Dennis Erickson found John Kitna a few decades ago. Had Erickson got another year, Kitna would have been a household name around here. Finding raw talent with a proper view of the tasks facing him, along with not carrying all the baggage that goes with intense Big School media hype, seems to be Job1 for them. My bet is the parents of these guys are high on their determination lists. Quiet sit-down family dinners have probably already been had. Beers with friends. Loads of laughter. Hell, why not?

I look forward to your projections. You can take it to the bank that the rest of the Experts will also be following your every utterance. Again, Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, Kenneth. I like mutts. Every dog I have ever owned was a mutt, and they were all healthy. When you've got your health, you've got just about everything. Add in a little love, and what more could you ask for?

Okada played. 9 snaps I think. On defense, not special teams, but I could be wrong. I saw him as part of a group of DB's celebrating the interception, and only people playing can be on the field at that point. I'm rooting for Okada. He's quite similar in measurables to ETIII. He's fast. From what I saw in the preseason, he diagnoses plays fast. Good instincts. Undrafted out of Montana State, I think.

Last I heard, Okada was still on the practice squad, so he must have been elevated for this game. I'm happy for him and his success so far.
