I agree with HD in just about all of his comments. there is only one quick fix. That’s sometimes can be the answer. A new quarterback that is exciting and can score points. see the Texans.

CJ Stroud Has Breathe new life Into that franchise. Combined that with a young, innovative offensive coach, and with the players, that we have now IMHO I think it could work here.

If the Seahawks, see a quarterback that they like draft him , let him and Drew Lock fight it out ... That would at least give the fans , the players a New Hope..There are other problems of course that must be addressed, but that at least would be a start . The piecemeal approach has been trried here over and over again and found wanting . please, not again. just my two. Cents.

Mediocrity is one step above failure...sort of. Depends how long you are vanilla. Unfortunately the Seahawks heyday left at the end of the SB loss to the Pats. There's been only feeling better about making the playoffs when so many other teams don't. I don't think that is the 49ers or Rams take. The Rams are going to start getting some draft capital back next year. They have managed to build a pretty good roster of no names and are actually considered to be a dark horse and a bit of a threat in the playoffs this year. Seattle doesn't generate that same respect. The 49ers are not going to get worse as far as I can tell. The Cardinals are going to be much better next year IMHO. Seattle risks being a cellar dweller in 2024 and perhaps beyond.

So what about Pete. Pete and JS made statements a few weeks back that disturbed me. They indicated that they're looking forward to having Adams back next year. Oh my.

Nostalgia always looks at the good old days and holds on to that memory but lets face it. Like any successfull business you must innovate before it's to late. The clock has already struck midnight for some years now but I think many of us including myself thought the new roster talent from the Wilson trade would really move the needle. Getting rid of Norton only turned into Hurtt and Desai. Getting rid of Shot has turned into the McVay disciple that wasn't offered a HC interview.

Settling is a tough way to go.

Reworking this team from the top done is not going to be any easy task, but I think it's time. The problem is like mountain climbing. You have to start from the bottom and work persistently struggle your way up the top to win the prize. It's never easy. It's never quick; but until you start nothing ever changes. If you always do what you always done; your going to get what you always got. It's like driving up to Seattle and then wondering why you ended up in Portland.

No matter what happens on Sunday the season really is over. I don't have a lot of confidence in this team or leadership and understand there is no quick fix. Sometimes you just need to quit repairing the old jalopy and start fresh, for better or for worse.

There's some good QB's in the draft this year and some interesting young coaching prospects. Maybe Seattle needs to avoid retreads and start fresh with a whole new vision. They have some talent to build on and should probably move on while that's still the case.

I'm a fan and have been since their inception, and will continue to be. I just hope Jody Allen finds her way to make some moves. Even the wrong choice is better than no choice and I doubt that the teams price tag is going to fall off a cliff if they aren't winning in 2024.

One thing is for sure. Without some drastic changes the situation is probably going to continue to deterioate. Let's do a trade in before the wheels completely fall off. A little future hope goes a long way.

Long-term, they need to lose this game. We need draft capital badly. And more good drafts.

I have little confidence that the current management understands what they have in this team, and don't have. How much is Pete and how much is Schneider is a mystery we on the outside may never learn. But you are what your record says you are. And you've been that for many years. Through multiple coordinators on both sides, and undoubtedly more coming if the top brass stays. Those changes and "resets" haven't mattered to results. But something has to have mattered to them. What's left is at the top.

I'm convinced that the Seahawks will not get back to being a true contender until we've moved on from Pete. Yes, the next coach could fail. We might endure another Mora before we get to the next winning coach. But the first step is saying goodbye to Pete. A loss to Arizona likely gets us a lot closer to that. So as terrible as it feels, I'm rooting for a loss.

I see a ton of comments that go something like “I only care about SBs” ... huh ... really?

The franchise first season in Seattle was 1976. So this is their 47th year. They have won the Super Bowl 1 time. The other 46 years have been miserable for these “fans”? 😂 geez what a tough existence for some of these people.

I was at the beastquake game, the Tony Romo dropped snap, and most recently the Drew Lock comeback win. Those are the moments that will live on. We did not win the Super Bowl those years or yet.

I also had season tickets when Tarvaris Jackson was QB and no one would go to the game with me so I walked up to scalper and said “how much you buying for?” He laughed in my face.

Couldn’t sell the ticket for $5 (good seats).

I’m not opposed to a new coach but I am opposed to becoming an organization that is a revolving door at head coach. Create a plan and see it through. This is year 2 of the rebuild.

As for Joes question, hell yes I want to win! I want to kick the crap of them. And yes I want to get into the playoffs and win again. The Bears are an ascending team with the first pick in the draft already, Fields needs to cement his claim and the team loves him. The bears will be ready and they can win.

Go Hawks,

To be honest, the season is really over. The Packers aren't going to lose to the Bears.

We're not going to go to the playoffs even if we win. Better to lose and get a higher draft pick, which makes the most difference going forward. We need a Defensive coach that knows how to get the most out of guys and get Rocky Seto back to indoctrinate fundamental tackling. We lost a number of games because of really poor Defense. Scored enough points to beat Dallas, should have beaten the Steelers, and a couple of others with better Defensive play.

This team can't block, can't tackle and can't cover. They can't keep from making absolutely stupid mistakes. They have no identity and no cohesiveness.

They went to a 3/4 without the right personel and still don't have 3/4 players.

The OC and DC need to go asap.

Pete and John have next year to right the ship or they should retire .

Geno is not a SB quality QB. Sorry, so doesn't matter if they finish 9 and 8 or 8 and 9.

I now consider this Year2 of a Pete Carroll rebuild. I keep coming back to Doug Baldwin's words with KJ, when he said he lost all reason for playing angry, as though that was what sparked him to sacrifice his body to bring in a catch. He played with a fury, IF it meant getting to the Super Bowl. I'm thinking this is what our super-talented guys have also held back this year. Watching Tyler's sad play last week spoke volumes to me, in this regard. At the half season mark, even a dummy like me could see we would not match what it takes to beat the Niners, thus capping our best season at maybe a playoff spot. One and out. Yawn/stretch.

Pete will be back to complete the rebuild. He will drop the belly-achers. Maybe playing Jamal this week will be the determining factor in his return. Maybe he goes out and shows how he can play when he is used correctly, which will not play well for Hurtt's return. Maybe the Guys will get up for Clint's demise, after keeping quiet all year on their dissatisfaction with him. Pete is shooting for a 3Pete, but could settle for one more return to the big stage.

I'd sure like to be in on the next end-of-season team meeting. That just might be next Monday.

I am hoping Seattle loses this game against Arizona. Getting the 13th pick to add to another pick or player to move up in draft is insurmountable. We need one of these QB’s coming out this year for a bright future. I also feel it is time to clean house in the teams executive offices. I love Pete, but it’s time Pete, and also time for a new GM. To not have any Pro Bowl players, and to see our playoff record past 8 years, time to raise the bar and expect better results. Good bye Pete and John and thank you for a fantastic 12 year run.

Nobody but Dallas fans care that they win their division because 3 months of gloating is really what they live for only to get bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

The competitor in me wants the hawks to find their asses and give at least one proper thrashing this year. Show everyone they still have some gusto in the tank and finish on a good note - the rest of it be damned. But with enough blame to spread around with this sorry AF season, I kind of hope they do go out on a sour note (if they don’t show up) so everyone has something to think about this offseason. Maybe they are just as apathetic to the “middling” plateau we’re currently in as the overall perception of making the playoffs (not for the first time) seems to be.

My wife is a Texans fan (what a year for her!) so I’m rooting for them to break everybody’s brackets this year. DeMeco deserves coach of the year.

Lose, definitely, although I’ll be REALLY pissed if they do lose.

Bc I’d put at 1000:1 the chance of getting to the SB and every other outcome short of that is mostly lost draft order -- great to win a wild card and even a divisional champ game but beating the Niners at home for the NFC championship is not going to happen unfortunately.

I would like to see them lose badly and miss the playoffs. It’s the only way to get ownership and PC to see this is a team with some serious issues. They tend to look at the glass half full too much ( the Williams trade and perhaps even the Adams trade )

Pete refused to say it was and is a rebuild. Thats denial. The team is designed for different players and eras.

Greg Bell has stated they don’t do much in the way of tacking drills and do “ mental reps “ Then they go into games and can’t tackle. A coincidence? I think not.

Look, losing to the Cardinals is better than losing to the Rams of the 49ers. But it is never ever ok to lose to a divisional rival and anyone who says other wise lives in some weird fantasy world. I'd rather beat the Cardinals in the final game of a 1-15 season to go 2-15 and give up the #1 draft pick! I'd rather beat the Cardinals and potentially give up 10 draft spots (as could happen) than lose to them.

But, in this case, if we did lose at least there is some kind of silver lining - provided there actual deep off-season changes and actions. The WORST outcome would be to lose, gain a draft spot or two, but "run it back because we were only one or two games and drives away from the playoffs"! God i hope not. I couldn't take it.

Always compete, always go for the win!

But a win over Arizona does not change the fact the Seahawks have under-performed on the season. The game vs the Cardinals, if a win, puts the Seahawks division record at 2-4 after being swept by BOTH the Niners and Rams. A losing division record is BAD. A loss puts the Seahawks at 1-5 and tied with the Cardinals for "last place" and is kinda where they should be ranked at the moment. Being successful in the NFL starts with being successful in your division and you have to be AT LEAST 3-3 to be in the "good" column.

If the Seahawks do move on from Pete (and John?) at the end of the season, then there will be a total reset of the team, and likely a trade or two to acquire more draft capital and free up cap space down the road.

Not forgettable at all, at least for Metcalf, as he broke the rookie record for yards in a playoff game that day.

As for the main theme of the post: losing begets losing, winning begets winning.

The Chiefs had just been AFC West Champions when they drafted Mahomes, won the AFC West again with him in the bench, and then won it all. And did it again. Just now (7 years and a bunch of cap spent later) they are losing steam and still won the division.

The Colts did suck for Luck, and they continued to suck and are out of luck and Luck. Just now they seemed to get their house in order and can begin to build incrementally, like winners do.

Baltimore fans last year were calling for Harbaugh's head. I'm pretty sure some of them were advocating for a bad season so they would see change. The Ravens are the team to beat this year.

The Eagles fired Doug Pederson less than 3 years after he won the Super Bowl (with Nick Foles!), their first ever. It seemed to work out, after they reached the Bowl again (with the QB he drafted), but that was all going all in, and the bill came this year, and the Eagles defense dropped substantially. And the irony of it is that Pederson might have kept his job in Philly had him not decided to do a mini-tank by benching Hurts against the WTF when they were close.

Texans ended last year in a high note, so did the Lions. They could have had better picks with a loss, but all points to things working out for them.

I could go on and on on how teams who try to win win, and teams that accept losing lose. But when I state it that way, it becomes pretty clear.

If this was a DK Metcalf newsletter, that would carry a lot more weight. The fact that I need to be reminded about an obscure stat says enough about how much I remember beating Josh McCown in a playoff game when he hadn't played all regular season.

As a true, diehard Seahawks fan, the only scenario that could make me happyish if they loose to the Cardinals is that if a loss would bring about REAL change (the kind of change that gets them into the playoffs as a strong team and they AT LEAST make it to the NFC championship). what is REAL change. Good question, a TEAM that tackles great as a TEAM, a QB that will do more than "just squeak" them into the playoffs, consistently good OC play calling, hiring a DC outside the organization to bring a fresh look at the D game. I LOVE Pete, but if these requests and more cannot be realized with Pete at the helm, then yes, maybe it is also time for Pete to more on.

I believe that Pete must overcome his tendencies to be overly loyal to his coaching staff. I don't think I'm the only one who noticed but Rique played much better last year and after a couple of years of Seattle's coaching he became worse. I'm thinking that on the coaching. There are more coaches that need to be replaced than the OC and the DC such as the DB's coach, the defensive line coach and more. The tackling atrocity that is the Seahawks is all due to coaching, or lack thereof. Pete needs to clean house and the sooner the better after the Cardinals game. I dread what they might do to Witherspoon's natural talent if they are still here next season. Just sayin.
