I don’t think I have ever been a Giants fan but I sure liked them chancing a 2 pt. Conversion in week 1. That’ another coach that could use a wheel barrel to push his nuts around.
Wait, no need for me to share an Over reaction because just about every fan is screaming that "THE SKY IS FALLING!!".
Yesterday's game sucked. The 'hometown 53' got their 'taints' handed to them by the dreaded 49ers.
Was anyone expecting a W? Sheesh, we were up against a healthy version of what is likely to be the Top rated front 7 in the league.
We were out physically at virtually every position and had the misfortune of knocking out of the game one of the NFL's only starting QBs that offers less chance for a 300 yard passing performance than Geno does.
The likelihood of loosing this game was virtually 100% Before that.... Heck, the odd-makers set the line at 8.5 points, which is virtually never set so high. They knew it and frankly, so did All of us.
So why forget the obvious and react so harshly? Well we did get skunked. The Hawk's 'O' scored an '0' of their own.
Losing by 2 is the same as losing by 42...so even though this one stings, we Do get an easier task at home next week. Watch us 12's make an eeked out win over the Falcons get blown up into another Hero-like performance...
What will Vegas oddsmakers set as the Over/Under for next Monday's overreaction? After all, it IS a Certainty.
The Seahawks are at exactly where any sane evaluator thought they would be.
The week we lost our HOF John Clayton, I used his take (that he got from Dick Vermiel) as to reading the schedule for predicting a record.
This lead to a prediction of a win on Monday over the RW lead Broncos and loss to the near Superbowl caliber 49ers on our way to a seven to eight win season.
Even ending up somewhere in the low-to-mid teens for draft order gives us a Great chance at the QB of the future - Without the need to trade up!
I pretty much said everything I wanted to this morning, so I am going to do a Belicheck it's onto Cincinnati,u but the Falcons are the real opposition. No matter what occurred last week I believe we can beat the Falcons. I also want to stress that Shane Waldron needs to be more inventive. If we go down by 14 you must start pushing the gas peddle. We need to use the other people we have like Goodwin and Eskridge, that will free up DK if these 2 could pile on some yardage. Being that we have only watched KW3 play once for Seattle you would think we don't know him. Thanks to Ken we do know him. He isn't quite as big as Sean Gurley, 10 to 15 lbs less but he is faster than Gurley. We all remember how Gurley would cut us up every game. Waldron was there and must know what the plays were. I suggest we do the exact same thing with KW3. How many times did Gurley come out of the backfield and catch a ball down the middle. Often they would leave him in for a chip block then he would go find an opening, or they would run a screen or draw or simply hand off. I can't think of a time when Penny caught a pass in game 1 or 2 and I think KW3 maybe caught one ?
They are two of our best athletes on the field use them a lot. Use the TEs and you will see DK open up downfield. It is almost criminal in how underrated Lockett is but he will always be open especially during a scramble drill. I am sure Waldron brought these plays with him, let's use the Gurley offense as the center piece, which will open up everyone else when cornerbacks are peering into the backfield.
Bad news for the NFL west, Trey Lance is out for the year and a good 49ers team has a play off quality QB in Jimmy G. and the Hawks have Gino, who can't throw deep. Long year a head.
I will always be a Seahawks fan. The Denver win was refreshing, but to me, it was a win based on the opposing Coach's lack of experience or faith in his QB. Yes, the defense did an outstanding job at the goal line. With this week's game, it was the Smith I expected to see, the backup QB. My son is a 9ers fan and when I said backup QB, he said, No, your starting QB. I again said he's a backup QB, and always will be. I was resigned to bearing a hard season of Seahawks ball this year and it may continue on this path for a couple of years, but there are bright spots. Our two rookie tackles, Woolen has been a nice addition and I think Bryant will get better. Walker is the player I am most excited to see get the ball, but if I wanted to watch college football, I'd be watching on Saturday, not Sunday. I'm not a fan of gadget plays in the NFL, even if they work, and having a backup RB throw a pass at the goal line is just not going to win any games. Defenders are just too smart. Play a straight game, win, lose or draw and develop the young players. As I said, I don't have high expectations for this season and that's okay, let's just set up the future so that it looks brighter. Thank you Seaside Joe for your honest and straightforward approach to this newsletter. It's the best thing out there and I always look forward to reading it each week. Seahawks!!
Hey Larry! Thank YOU! Yeah, it does feel like amateur hour with so many young players and guys being tested by competition that is SO MUCH BETTER than the college athletes that they faced last year or the year before. Also another reason this team was not ready to just acquire a veteran QB, the Seahawks have a lot of growing up to do at other positions before they can support a QB.
Hang a sign inside the Vmac practice facility “Have you had you asses kicked today”. Even really bad teams at least get close enough to attempt field goals sometime during a 60 minute period
Our offense didn’t get close enough to even attempt a freaking field goal. What’s the point?
Come out in a no huddle; run, pass, kick, bite, growl, grunt- use 4 downs to move the chains. GET A SENSE OF URGENCY! The offense can and should be able to score points anytime all game long. Let me tell you what the film says so you don’t need to waste a lot of practice time with your laptops. You did not get close enough to even attempt a freaking field goal. Re-assess your goals- first goal should be SCORE POINTS.
Yah, even if you're losing, you gotta prove you can get some points. That's tough football to watch, nobody wants to end up like the recent-ish Giants.
The reason Lockett is tasked with fielding punts is that he has the surest hands in the league. Last year he had 0 drops, the most targeted wide receiver with a perfect rate.
No one was expecting Lockett to take it to the house. No one asked him to do so. Lockett will fair catch always, because he can catch, and that is safe. Pete wants to play as safe as possible to properly evaluate talent.
Tyler took the blame saying that he should have instructed better the guy blocked into him. But that's not on him. He was there to fair catch and give us 3 offensive snaps.
Levi's stadium is known for being the most chaotic place for punts, due to unpredictable winds (though not strong enough to impact stronger kicks as kickoffs and place kicks that often).
But I agree that moving on, someone else must be the returner.
Last year it was Freddy Swain fair catching the ball or getting out of the way and letting it bounce. It frustrated the hell out of me. I was a fullback in rugby and there is no fair catch. Swain may have returned 10% of the punts and looked slow. A gentleman's bet that Eskridge dropped two punts this summer and that's why Lockett is there
Geno’s stock is down only because market euphoria after Week 1 elevated it above what it is: A penny stock.
Next week against Atlanta is probably make or break for Smith in the near term, and we should accept that this game is no longer a gimme: The Falcons may be 0-2, but they’ve played both NOLA and the Rams close in the bargain. Mariota has been credible and their running game has been reasonably effective (despite the presence of Germain Ifedi on the roster). Just saying…
That was the ‘slapping in the face with a wet fish’ moment. Joyful homerism allowed me to ignore the fact that the Broncos ran all over us last week, and that another apparently bad O-line, with their premier back missing, would struggle this time. And that somehow, just somehow, the Seahawks wouldn’t. Reality, indeed!
This always promised to be a tough season, so I am glad to have Seaside Joe to help me through it, at a cost of a measly 16 cents per day (in other words, pay the man!)
Glad to have you, Johnny! I really think that the Trey Lance offense would have made this game a little closer, at least. But the Seahawks may have never scored a point on offense no matter what, unless Lance gave the ball away in 49ers territory.
I reckon if they’d have carried on playing until tomorrow they would still be laying an egg.
Dismal, but still preferable to the situations other teams find themselves in. We will just need to get used to the brave new world where the Seahawks growing pains are awful to see and we comfort ourselves with our improving draft stock.
The wildcat was cool, but neither play really worked. I feel like Penny was supposed to be an option for Ken to pitch to on the first play, but he outran the play too early. A non-Ken would have taken a 3-yard loss. The next play may have had a small window in the back corner of the endzone, but DJ makes about the worst pass I've ever seen in an NFL game. Seems like Ken is ready to wildcat, but the rest of the team doesn't know how to yet.
Geno just seemed like he had no anticipation and was late on everything he missed. If it wasn't his first read to whoever he decided to throw to pre-snap, then it was thrown after the WRs were breaking open and DBs already reacting.
All our young CBs need to learn to avoid those under thrown DPI gimme balls. Last week it was Woolen and this week Jackson. Others will notice and take advantage until you fix it.
I'm ready to start running Laps for Lock. If Geno makes it past week 3, I may consider Runs for Walker.
Turning your head gets you out of all trouble. Refs will let you knock the receiver over if your looking for the ball. Trey Flowers never learned that skill and is in Cincinnati. If he could have calmed down and turned his head he could have been OK
Hard to ever make an interception if you never look back for the ball too.
These guys have still been the most entertaining part of the team so far this year, so not trying to be too critical. I just hate when good coverage gets penalized for something so correctable as a head turn. I'm sure it's a more difficult adjustment to make than it seems from my couch.
Good point, Grant. I think the first Walker play showed off his awareness skills, but the play was blown up. The second play could have worked with a good pass but should not have been attempted. The direct snap plays should come in when the team needs one yard and they've exhausted a lot of their 1-yard plays over the season--something to keep the defense on its toes. But back-to-back was insane.
In other unexpected news, after two games, the Giants and the Dolphins are undefeated and leading their divisions. We have lots of problems but we sure need those injured cb's back badly. Maybe they can help to improve the pass defense and things will improve a little.
My crystal ball seems on the fritz. Oh, well, I can still use it for a snow globe. Give as many experience as possible. Throw Lock in, maybe, or maybe just run, run, run, and see what happens.
I don’t think I have ever been a Giants fan but I sure liked them chancing a 2 pt. Conversion in week 1. That’ another coach that could use a wheel barrel to push his nuts around.

Maybe Lewis injuries prevented them from off loading him to the Bucs early on.

If you don’t have a player problem then you have a coaching problem.

You're right, Luis! But on a "FOOTBALL" team, how is there not one other player with sure hands who isn't important to the offense? Insane to me.

Swain was way better than the eye test would tell. The Seahawks had on average a top-5 field position to start their drives.
at least it's not Candlestick !!
After the first half I was hoping Pete would make the switch to Lock to start the second half.
Gonna be interesting to see when that happens, Doug

Dolphins, Buy. Giants, Sell.
Need to see Tua keep it up, he was bad in the first half, but that offensive is explosive.
