In my mind the Chiefs and the Bears are pretty much equal as a quality opponent. The Bears, at going against the Hawks, would have a slight edge over KC as they are a tad bit healthier. The outcome of the game will be similar.

Extra rest-better receivers, and now the have Simmons,

I think Bears will present more problems than KC:

1. QB Caleb Williams “off-script” playmaking

2. Bears have better WR’s than KC

3. Bears coming in off of Thursday nite game with 3 extra days of rest

4. HC Ben Johnson has extra days to build creative game plan fir this marquee game - which could be preview of NFC championship.

I still expect Seahawks to win, but expect a more competitive game.

I made it into the kelp bed for a change this week!

The Bear’s unpredictability (much of it due to their QB) makes them a challenge. Got to watch out for their misdirection and for our guys to stay disciplined in their assignments.

The Seahawks are pretty good at setting the edge, and I don't think the Bears can run wide. Then there's Byron Murphy. Calib Williams is strong enough to throw the ball out of the stadium, but not accurately, and our back end is pretty good at preventing yards after a short catch. I'm seeing lots of short drives and punts from Chicago. Seattle 28-10 going away.

Sometimes I’ll read back what I wrote and think to myself that it doesn’t quite sound right. I don’t think Caleb is really like Nix but more they run a lot of short passes. Not that’s there’s nothing wrong with that necessarily.

The Bears have much better receivers than the Chiefs. And after watching the Bear vs Patriots game, they also blitz an awful lot.

This is OT (off topic). This is not about football, or the Seahawks. This is about me and a tiny little bit maybe about Kenneth Arthur AKA Seaside Joe and my relationship with SSJ here on this comments section.

About in the middle of this article, SSJ wrote:

"Week 8 Expectations

I saw the movie WHALEFALL last week and it kind of reminded me of what it must feel like to be a Seahawks fan who isn’t playing the weekly 12 Questions expectations game every week: Trapped, Lost, Alone, and Afraid. Get out of the whale, play the game!"

Well ... I took that personally. You could insert a photo of Michael Jordan here alongside that quote. i.e. The quote: "I took that personally". That is a joke, so don't anyone get excited right now. There is nothing to get excited about in my entire post, so, please, no one take this personally as I really don't and I am just writing a little ditty that some of you might find amusing, at best.

But I am the one and only one who has complained to SSJ, publicly, I might add, and so some of you might remember me for that, if for no other reason, and that is funny right there, to me, but I have complained that SSJ writes so much about PREDICTIONS and when he switched from PREDICTIONS to EXPECTATIONS I took a little dig at SSJ and pointed out that there is almost no difference between a prediction and an expectation. Just to let SSJ know that I am still not all that thrilled with these kinds of articles, but also to kid SSJ.

I did answer his question regarding who I am more worried about, Kansas City or The Bears, and I answered, in my literalist way by answering The Bears. How can I be worried about KC at this point? That game is water under the bridge, but the Bears remain a threat to our beloved Seahawks. So as a literalist, the question comes way too late for me to have answered KC.

I took it personally. LOL. I did. I felt like he was talking directly to me, and the chances are very good that SSJ was not pointing his finger at me, but at anyone who is not playing his silly game. It may not be silly to you, and I am NOT trying to make enemies here. I'm really not. In answer to one of my earliest complaints about prediction articles, one of you posted something about how SSJ is so prolific that he deserves to write about whatever the hell he wants to write about, and I took that to heart to some degree. There is some truth to that statement. SSJ is prolific. SSJ has a right to write whatever the hell he wants to write and still keep our loyalty.

And I am not particularly thin skinned. So even if SSJ was pointing his finger at me, that is OK. I am used to it. I was in a rock and roll 5 piece band back in high school. We were tight as many bands are. We had a lot of strong personalities and some not so strong. I am not what I would describe as charismatic. I have some neuro divergent personality traits. Sometimes I think I have a touch of Tourette's syndrome. Sometimes I think I have a bit of Asperger's syndrome. Just a touch mind you. But enough to lack true charisma. Enough to be worthy of an occasional ribbing about it or myself. I was only in the band because the other members liked me. I had no musical talent whatsoever. So, as a band member, I was not outspoken. I accepted direction from our leader. and anyone else who wanted to give me advise. But I was beyond advise, so mostly no one in the band abused me about my lack of musical talent.

We were that tight. We did not "hit below the belt". We kidded each other, though I was kidded more than anyone else. As a senior in HS I was not taking gym class. I just cut it all year long. Fuck it, I didn't need gym class anymore, and by cutting it I had an extra hour each day to do homework for other classes or more likely to hang out and smoke weed. So sometimes my hair was quite greasy and full of oil. Once, we were all walking along somewhere and one of the strong personality types, Byron, thought it would be funny to see if my hair would catch on fire. So he took out his Zippo and ran it across the back of my hair.

Well, my hair caught on fire! Two or three of my friends started hitting me in the head trying to put out the flames. While laughing their guts out. I tried pushing their hands away until I realized I was on fire! Then I started batting at the flames, which were already out, with my hands and calling them a bunch of assholes. But they were laughing like crazy and told me the fire was out and to not worry. So, it only took me a few seconds to realize that it was funny. So we all laughed out loud at my expense. That was my super power. They loved to play tricks on me, and I would just laugh along. I had a strong enough ego I did not take it personally. I knew I was very bright and nothing they ever did to me really damaged my ego. So they got their jollies putting me down in one way or another. They would not have done it to anyone else in the band. One way or another, that would have been "hitting below the belt".

So, Kenneth, if you wrote those lines with me in mind, it is funny, and I don't mind.

Sorry, I’m in a hurry and skimming comments so I haven’t read the WHOLE comment yet but just to get ahead of this while I can: most definitely not directed at you, if that’s what it sounded like. I just want more people to participate, that’s all. Thanks!

Stephen Pitell's avatar

Well, if you HAD read the entire post, you would know that you did not need to "get ahead of " anything. There's nothing to get ahead of, and nothing for anyone to be upset about. And that statement I quoted SHOULD HAVE BEEN POINTED AT ME.

The buddy system extends to the depth players. JS/MM strive to have guys with similar skill sets who can step up when needed without huge changes to the playbook. Of course, there is no second JSN, and you need three players to back up Emmanwori’s roles. There are no backup unicorns.

The Bears O is more difficult than KC’s, because there are more variables. With KC, the defense needed to neutralize one well-known player and then cover the expected pass plays. The Bears are less predictable. That means more if-this-then-that coaching. Get tricked and get gashed. It’s a bigger mental load.

Regarding our offense, they looked super crisp Sunday night. It was like a marching band with freshly starched and pressed uniforms, playing uptempo, hitting all the right notes on point. The interception? Late throw by Sam. A good reminder not to relax back into sloppy habits.

I expect a win, if everyone is mentally sharp. But if players have brain fog, the Bears will own it.

Ray's avatar

"...no backup unicorns." Great line!!

Richard's avatar

the bears are healthier and have more weapons. Williams is playing better then mahomes right now and we lack the speed off the edge to prevent williams from extending plays, they also just got simmons to shore up the defensive front. They are for sure a tougher matchup. Dont turn the ball over and if we stop their run to make it so they cant have long drives and keep us off the field we should be good.

Scott M's avatar

Simmons changes things considerably. He gave Nelson trouble.

Chip Mac's avatar

This game is about running the ball for the Hawks first and passing second. If we can move the ball with Nelson and 31 formation then life will be good in Luman.

Seaside Joe's avatar

I love running the ball more than ever since I started playing that 2-minute drill game. If you haven’t seen it, I think a Google search would work.

Danno's avatar

We may need to re-assess the Bears D-line. They got Jeff Simmons from the Titans for 2 first round picks

Seaside Joe's avatar

Definitely!

Doug Weller's avatar

Seems like I've heard something similar recently about a SoCal team. How's that working out for them?

MarkE's avatar

Yup. Seaside Joe might have inadvertently jinxed that one...

Charley Filipek's avatar

KenJoe 'n The Seaside Community are stronger than any jinx.

We'll get 'em.

The Titans are hoping for some Bear's losses now.

Seaside Joe's avatar

Can’t be a Jinx if the Seahawks prepared for stopping Simmons before they even knew they were facing him. Quite lucky!

“Another matchup that could be exploited is Jaxon Smith-Njigba against anyone.”

Such a true statement even when you use it in regard to ALL nfl teams.

We are so lucky to have the best receiver in the game in his prime. So excited to see how good he is throughout his career.

Why the Bears are tougher … It seems to me the Bears are good at taking the ball away, and we are prone to giving it away. Anytime we have 2 or more turnovers we are as likely to lose as we are to win. The Bears have one of the fastest QBs in the league and he’s going to be tougher to contain than most QBs we face. He also can escape pressure and prolong plays. They are very potent on offense and can put up a lot of points. If we can score 27 points I am feeling like we get the win. We could get the win with 20 points if the defense does not have to deal with redzone or turnovers on the wrong side of the 50. Offense should continue to play complementary football. It’s okay to punt and bet on the defense to give you a chance to try it again on the next drive.

The protection for Sam was decent in the Chiefs game. With Nelson I expect it could continue to trend in a better direction. What I’m really hoping is that the run game will see an improvement. We now have all three interior O-linemen quick and mobile to excel in the wide zone run game. IF Price and Charbs play, wouldn’t it be nice to see three effective runners cutting up the Bears D?
