I was reading Seattle ESPN and Wyman was surprised at the selection as he had not been mocked in any drafts in the NFL. So I decided to look into that. I ran across this quote from Pro football Network,

"For the majority of his career, Auburn EDGE Derick Hall was one of the most productive pass rushers in the SEC. He now takes his talents to the 2023 NFL Draft, where he’s an under-the-radar prospect deserving of early-round capital. Just how appealing is Hall’s profile, and how high up the board should he rise in April?"

Draft network listed him as a first round value. NFL network listed him as a second round prospect. He was mocked to the Bengals in the second round and earlier this year he was mocked to KC at 31.

Draft Buzz listed him 6th overall at LB/Edge and was considered a 2nd round guy. Go figure, he had a great Senior Bowl week and I found this quote, from Matt Miller at Draft Scout "He’s a late first-rounder who might slip to the early second round, but not much farther." He was listed at number 8 in the article "10 Senior Bowl winners." He is more of a rush product at this time but has shown bright spots in penetration against the run and setting the edge with his physical gifts. As I mentioned yesterday he was second athletically to Anderson at the combine.

I honestly had not heard anything about the guy but then again Auburn was second to last with a losing record in the SEC West. He put up great numbers in the SEC in losing efforts, , a strong statement to his character and leadership skills.

Under the radar and a good fit for Seattle.

I didn’t know anything about Hall, but that video makes me think he could be a fan favorite real soon. He’s so well spoken with such an amazing back story. He’ll have his boat out on Lake Washington and Puget Sound in no time.

I don't see how he gets on the field unless they go back to a 4/3 defense? I've read he's not an outside linebacker, and he seems too small to play a down lineman in a 3/4 set. All the faults that were being made about Tyree Wilson not being a fit for the new defensive scheme seem to apply to Derick Hall. e.g. If he can't drop into coverage, and he can't be one of three down lineman in a 3/4, how is he on the field on first and second down?

Yeah, I thought both round 2 picks were head-scratchers. They'll probably turn out to be my two favorites, but I had 3 RBs left on the board I thought would go over Charbonnet, and there were at least a dozen players on my wish list when Hall was picked. But I had seen a bit of both and like the players. And just because mocks have players consistently going lower doesn't mean they would be there at a later pick.

Might this pick have been better spent on someone that plays on the D-Line or a Safety? I hope Derick Hall isn't just one more pretty good, but nothing special outside linebacker. We already have more than enough of those guys.

Third round trade sucked. We could have got Ade Ade. Fifth round and next years third.

Might want to take a look at this. ALL of the math (aka trade charts and sites) say that John Schneider FLEECED Denver . . . AGAIN. The excess value in this trade is roughly equivalent to a mid-round R4.

What? Difference between 83 and 106 is often around a late 5th or 6th. They got a future 3rd. Great trade for Seahawks

Check that, 4th round. 108th.

Traded pick 83 to Denver. Don't know what they get back.

SSJ was right about Hyatt, and I was right about Mingo, though he came around.

My guess is we take Karl Brooks. One of the best pass rush win rates in college ball.

Like'n the looks of the Hawk's current pack of pit bull Edges, Corners and Safeties. As Montgomery Burns would say, "Smithers! Release the hounds!"

Now...we need a fire breathing Godilla at nose guard right?

It is like they are going down the big board. No reaches, high character not drafting for need but absolutely drafting for fit. Just slightly below Robinson but also taken 45 slots lower. Perfect compliment to Walker. Together they are a heck of 1 to 2 punch. Walker is going to have work hard though if he wants to be the 1 in that punch.

Team captain and ferocious player. He is a perfect fit with Witherspoon yesterday to add some big hits and swagger to the defense.

His length and athleticism are prototypical for Seattle.

Love his story. Good luck young man!

Charbonnet - YES!!!

3/4 year starter - approx 600 carries in college - 0 fumbles & 2 tackles. He did very well against the UW this year (though I wish he had just called in sick).

Don't forget that Auburn was a dysfunctional program. The coach, Bryan Harsin, got fired during the season. The team, especially the defense, played better after he was gone. This could be a very underrated pick.

I never scouted him, but he checks all the boxes. I wonder if they might try to make an off ball LB out of him on early downs.

Significantly faster than a lot of edges. Wins with power. Hard worker. Rob had him as a second rounder. He only had two as second rounders, so only Will Anderson and two others ahead of him.

He graded out athletically at the combine # 2 behind Anderson

From the video Road to the Pros it looks like the Hawks also have a potential Running Back or Tight End ~ two way player. Whoaza.
