History says sound and fury signifying nothing—I.e., Door #3 with ultimately mediocre execution.
“We’re going to get a second-round pick talent anyway, so why not trade down and get extra picks” sounds good in theory. In practice, it works out as “Why settle for T J Watt when we can get Malik McDowell with Lano Hill in the bargain?”
I like options 1 and 3, if Verse is “the guy” then take him. If not, I would like to see more 2nd and 3rd round picks to increase the odds that we get a couple starters from the draft.
Joe, again I think you are spot on. Every thing we have seen so far suggests this is the planned course. At this point I no longer have a specific choice, just assume they will make the right decisions If most of us didn't believe that we'd all be screaming for JS's head which no one is doing.
Folks, the W Glasses are now officially SHIPPED. Thank you for subscribing, thank you for entering, than you for supporting. I sincerely wish I could send this giveaway to 100% of you, but this time there were just the 5 winners. So 4 of those packs are now out, but Mike R. where'd you go! Check your spam folder maybe, never heard back from you re: shipping address.
My prediction is that if Penix is available, he will be our first pick. Cooper DeJean is the fallback plan after a trade back (not always possible for decent value), and Fautanu, or any of the tackles whose name begins with an F is my last option if Penix is gone, and we cannot find a trade down partner for DeJean . It is mathematically almost a certainty that one of the F tackles will still be there at 16 and maybe as low as 20.
So circumstances may contrive to force a pick at 16, so the most likely scenario, as I see it, is we stay put and take a good tackle.
Agreed… Trade down and out of 1st Round for Carolina picks as explained… Giving 24 hours to reassess after Day 1, before picking on Day 2… More picks right now in a good range matters👍👍👍
Be patient says JS, be patient. AAAAHHHHHH....gotcha. I have had several instances where I have been able to trade back and get an extra 1 and 2 next year. I then trade both 2's from next year (packaged with this years lowest picks) to trade up this year and get more picks in that sweet spot 30ish-100ish. Net result is 2 first round picks next year with zero second round picks next year but then this years 5 picks are pretty choice. I am hoping we get Penix, Fuaga or Murphy is we stick. Verse looks great, don't get me wrong, I just like Murphy better. I'm coming from the viewpoint of who would I rather have to deal with? Who would I rather not see go to a division rival? And for me that answer is Penix, Fuaga, and Murphy. I do like trading out of the first entirely but it will require patience.
I definitely think there is scope to move up using the 4th round picks to get up into the mid-3rd, which I would be open to as I really don't think there's much to be gained from the R6&7 picks. I would not want to sacrifice future picks in the process unless it is in those same R6&7 areas.
The other route, of course, is a player-for-picks trade but as others have mentioned there is a good chance JS wants to see what the new coaching staff can do with the guys he brought on board in the last couple of years.
I think you are very correct in us already having a potentially great team. Pete had all his pieces in place? Mack may have come in after telling JS he see's a strong team and wishes to work with what we already have.
This is ALL so much more logical and thought-out than the trash that prompted me to turn off the radio this morning.
As you said, nothing can be known for certain until the picks are actually announced, but I can't fault the thought process you brought to it all. Thanks!
Hopefully this is a new, more positive, era for the Seahawks. As was outlined in an earlier article, the Ravens have done well without high picks. So maybe #3 is the plan. Good evaluations, as always, about all three choices. I hope they fine someone to dance with. GO SEAHAWKS!
I hope they stick and pick at 16, because that means someone they really like fell to them. Someone that outweighs all the benefits of trading down. And we've gotta have some faith, right?
Can't disagree with option 3, since that's pretty much what I typed yesterday. It's absolutely plausible. Of course, John needs to find people to dance with, and that's the big wildcard.
One name I'll just throw out there as a late round longshot would be Omar Speights, which you PNW folks should be familiar with, but he played last year at LSU. Too smart a football player to go undrafted.
For sure, it's the same as predicting a player. I can predict Jared Verse but it necessitates he's available and that other players are not available. Predicting a trade is no different, is it available or unavailable?
Fave guys on defense: Jared Verse, Quinyon Mitchell, Ruke, Cole Bishop. Fave on offense: AD Mitchell, Ricky Pearsall, Luke McCaffrey, Brandon Coleman, Isaac Guerendo, Tip Reiman.
Ruke would be a pretty sweet pickup. Guy hasn't been playing football all that long (grew up in Nigeria), so lots of upside still, and he's already good.

Sshhhhhhh don't use real world examples of trading down being a bad move in spite of what the trade value chart says, it makes the nerds sad.
(It's me, I'm "the nerds")

AAAGHH, my brain hurts.
All I can say is good luck JS & MM. Sooo many options.

Mike R. told me to tell you that he wanted me to accept the W Glasses on his behalf and to hold onto them for safe keeping.
Gonna need a montage of us all wearing them as your week 1 thumbnail for SSJ

I'd be OK with that if the tackle we draft plays defense.
You got your wish, and I couldn't be happier.

On the same page.
Based on draft board/projections, I only see two players that the Seahawks would stick and pick: Verse and Q Mitchell.
If they trade back once, again I see two options: DeJean and Barton.
If they trade back twice: Rakestraw, Robinson, Orhorhoro, maybe even Corley.

What other ways can JS use to accumulate more 2 and 3 round picks tonight? Trading off picks for next year?

New England could also be a spot in the second round that John has connections with. I'm not looking, but that is pick 34, I believe.
I hope we stick and pick Murphy or Verse but would not be surprised if we took the top corner off the board if they are there
Definitely a handful of teams past the Panthers too.

Great perspective to take, kinda hope you're right!

I do love the idea of picking at #33. For all kinds of reasons.
