Kenneth - what make John Schneider such a badass at times is his innate ability to read the tea leaves of other teams. He gets complex scenarios pretty darned well. How often has it gotten leaked about George Kittle almost drafted (49ers snagged him 1 pick sooner) - Russell Wilson, Rashard Penny about to get snapped up by other teams but the Hawks got them first. Waiting on DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett until moving up to get them - etc.

So Far this year, You have been the wonderkind. So far your predictions have been impressive. If this latest one comes to pass, I will not run and miles myself, but I am all for cheering you on for the miles you log due to Lock's TD collection. Plus I pledge to endorse you to ALL my co-workers, social media and family even (that I actually get along with). Cool?

I'm a bit flummoxed, and clearly I'm not alone, in Geno getting all the reps with the #1s today. It's probably coach gamesmanship of some sort I suppose. Frankly, I hate coach gamesmanship and think it rarely pays off. Better to just be honest.

If Pete really has decided Geno's the guy, then he's an idiot -- which I don't think he is. I mean, I'm used to him making idiotic choices on Sunday in the heat of battle. But when there's time to think something through, it's unusual for him to really stink things up. Except for trades. I don't trust Pete or John when they get one of their bright ideas.

If Geno starts without Lock getting a real chance, for the first time since Carroll arrived, I'll finally be in the "Pete must go" camp. But it makes so little sense, that can't be it. Gotta be something else.

I’m careful not to be day-to-day with opinions. I’ve been quite steadfast in all my predictions because I’m going off a record of many years of evidence and not necessarily a Pete comment or one day of practice. In this case, the argument is above and in the article from July and I think they are fair points. I also think it’s important that I be consistent until very good counter evidence enters the picture. At which point, I’m always happy to concede because I’ve always known I’ll be wrong sometimes. I do not think that closed practice Monday reps is the counter evidence that would make my change my overall opinion on this competition. Pete just said yesterday that Lock will play a lot on Friday. That’s all I need to hear until Friday.

You're smart in not being day-to-day. This chicken little thing is not helpful. Perspective is important.

What you do with us is similar to what I do as a collaborative divorce attorney in helping folks divorce with care and kindness rather than getting lost in fear and other emotions. If one can help folks keep an eye on the big picture and the things that are most important and obvious when one takes a couple of steps back -- like how it's important to like each other when the dust settles 'cause they have children to raise together or grandchildren to share -- most people get it. Some need more assitance than others. Divorce litigation is so damaging becaus people lose sight of the forest for the trees. I've seen people emotionally destroy their children fighting over what's in their best interest. I've seen them bankrupt themselves over money.

We sports fans can be equally blind and stupid. It's helpful to have a guiding voice who keeps us focused on the big picture. That's particularly important when things go wrong. I mean, really, football isn't important in any meaningful way. Win or lose, we'll go to our jobs, care for our kids and all the rest the next day. If we lose an important game, there'll be another game next week. If our season goes poorly, there'll be a next year. If our hated rival wins the Superbowl, they'll be just like us the day after, figuring out how to shape a roster for next season.

Well said, better than I could ever say something! Just to clarify, I don't want it to sound like I'm saying you or anyone here is being wishy-washy. It's hard for any of us to not be influenced by the manic nature of the 24-hour news cycle on Twitter that demands to emotionally twist people in knots day after day...even not being on Twitter, any person can be influenced by that since social media can permeate that real world all the time. It was the two years that I quit Twitter that allowed me to see that a writer can have a "super power" if they simply don't engage with that type of noise. When you tweet 100 times a day for 9 years, as I did and many of my colleagues still do, and then come out of it, it's like being unplugged from the Matrix. I hope that they stay in the Matrix, it's making my predictions like "What are you talking about with Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder?" and "the Seahawks aren't trading for Baker Mayfield" and "Geno Smith is a backup QB" seem like I'm prescient when really I'm just being rational and they're being irrational.

Perhaps Pete is going to start Geno, but if I'm wrong this time, I'm confident I'll be more "right" than average most of the time. Because the average has been destroyed by social media's manic clout-chasing nature.

That's a great explanation and it makes a lot of sense. You are right most of the time. I'm still confused why you went from predicting Cross to Seattle to making the opposite statement not long after -- pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory. But other than that, you've been, if not close to prescient, at least way more often correct than incorrect. You have knowledge and insight into many areas of the game, including contract extensions. It's good to read your analysis before reading anything else because, honestly, there aren't many accurate media sources. They tend to get breathless, sometimes almost hyperventilating, over this or that, most of it noise, less likely to be right than wrong in many cases. Until now, I thought it was clickbait but your twitter explanation provides another perspective. Having never really engaged in twitter, I don't get it. But that's because I'm too old to get twitter, instagram or anything beyond facebook, youtube and email.

Well, I would certainly hope it not be confusion; I gave a detailed explanation for why I felt for a period of time that Charles Cross wouldn't go to the Seahawks, and then as the draft came closer and the picture of who the options at 9 were, I went back to Cross. I was clear during the entire process that Left Tackle was a top-2 priority for the first pick.

edit: so essentially, when the seahawks traded russ, i had to think quick what would make the most sense and that was a left tackle and the most likely left tackle was Cross. I'm happy that I did the due diligence to compare Cross's measurables to every other Seahawks OT under Pete Carroll and it's a fact that Cross had the worst measurables since Russell Okung. Maybe that should've been my first sign to not pivot away from him. Then we saw that his play speed and lateral agility didn't quite fit his combine numbers. And once it became clear that Ekwonu and Neal weren't falling to 9, Cross made sense again. It's important to be consistent, but just as important for me to be willing to pivot and call myself 'wrong' when it seems like I'm wrong. It was an up-down-up with Cross during the draft process; a mini-rollercoaster.

True. As it turns out, I imagine we're all very happy with Cross. If what I've read elsewhere is true, he's off to a better start than Ekwonu and Neal.

Hmm. Pete's choosing between two backup QBs, why is that the last straw for you to saying Pete must go? It would make more sense if letting go of Russ led you to that position, but honestly, the team isn't going to be great with either. It seems to me that it matters more that we develop the talent around the team this year tbh so curious why you have such a strong stance about which back up QB will be losing games for us

Hmmm, how do you interpret that apparently Geno got all the snaps with the #1’s today? I’ve been thinking you’ve been quite possibly correct in your views about the Lock-Smith battle, but today’s practice doesn’t seem to fit the scenario.

And just yesterday he implied or outright said that the Seahawks are nowhere near a decision at QB. So does it line up that between yesterday and today that Pete felt before practice that Geno is actually the starter? I don’t want to put words in your mouth, are you saying that because Geno Smith had reps with the 1s today that he is the starter?

If what Pete said on Sunday is true, then Lock can win the job on Friday. Unless Pete changed his mind by Monday.

My thought when I saw that was "There Pete goes again, punking the media" the way he likes to do by dropping hints about the draft and making comments about not trading Wilson.

Wasn't today's practice the last "open" one? So it appears that Geno is solidly #1, so maybe Denver will be surprised when Lock comes out leading the team.

I like it! It's a win-win for Geno and the FO. Cut him, bring him back with some guaranteed $$, and make him the most valuable Clipboard Jesus (apologizes to Charlie) in the league. Let Drew brew, for better (no need to spend a draft pick on a QB in 2023) or worse (spend a high draft pick in 2023) and let the rookies gain experience. BRILLIANT!

That is the strongest case I have seen for Seattle starting Drew Lock. What I am not clear on is what would Geno make as a garuntee per your cut and resign. I would imagine it is more than the NFL minimum, so guessing $1.5 million, as a back up QB is worth more than the minimum. Geno would realize this is better money than he can make anywhere else. As a side bar Geno made mention his family, mother etc are millionaires self made.

Am I right that Drew Lock will earn $2 million this year ? This would mean counting Russell they are paying $26 or $27 million for QBs this year. I would think Seattle is going to come in well under the salary cap. Would it be a good idea to pay a larger portion of DKs salary so there is more money down the road ? I know it's hard to tell, but with nobody I can think of on our team now, earning a new big contract, we must be tripping over ourselves in salary cap for next year. I hope I got that right, go 2023

My pure guess is Drew may still be battling covid. Did Geno really get all first team snaps ? That really makes no sense as Pete has said he wanted to even the reps out to make the "competition fair " very odd with the game being Friday

A person could go crazy trying to figure out a situation that really I don't think is much of a situation. If Lock is playing a lot on Friday, then that's all that matters and the audition will happen.

I seem to recall that they have already cut Geno in the past on cut-down day, only to bring him back after they had someone else on the 53 for a day before sending them to the PUP. Maybe even more than once. Am I wrong about that?
