Jake Browning was cut by the Bengals. Lacks a great arm, but better backup than Lock? Also Ramiz Ahmed was cut by the Packers, and he didn't miss a kick all preseason or (according to a guy on Reddit) all of camp. Would be cheaper and likely better than Myers. I guess the Jags would have first shot at guys like this though.
A few of these position groups would have been pretty shocking a couple of months ago, and even a bit surprising (to me anyway) today. What jumps out at me is that we only kept three ILB but five Safeties. And one ILB isn't really an ILB. They'll probably add to this group shortly, but I can see them playing a lot of three-safety formations to take advantage of their talent in that spot. I'm ready to see Adams playing around the LOS a lot more this year.
I don't know how the IR rules work really, but I assume Collier's spot will be given to someone else without actually loosing team control of his contract.
What a great job for seven of this year's draft picks to make the 53!!! And that's not counting Tyreke Smith.
Whether they're still Seahawks in a couple weeks or not, how cool is it to see M. Adams, Onujiogu, Mike Jackson, John Reid, Josh Jones, and Joey Blount all make the 53. That would have been quite shocking (and alarming) at the beginning of training camp.
I'm that guys that replies to my own comment today, because it just struck me that NINE rookies made the 53!!! 17% our current roster are rookies!!! Is that a record? Is that crazy? I'm pretty sure that's not good, even if it is exciting.
Off the top of my head, I wouldn't say that it is especially unusual. A "standard" draft would have 7-8 players with compensatory picks and with the number of UDFAs every year, and teams' desires to stay under the cap, I would say 8 is normal, so 9 is just one more. 15 would be nuts.
I see that too. After posting I looked at a few other teams final 53 and it really isn't an abnormally high number. I think we've got an above average rate of rookies in prominent positions, but we knew that was likely. Not used to seeing a roster like this as a Hawks fan, but I guess we've been spoiled.
Sorry, one more thing. And... AND! Bryant and Woolen, your 4th & 5th round CB picks, didn't just make the 53, they're friggin' starting (maybe, I think)!!!
How come no one else is freaking out about any of this!!!
We're going to find out if we filled some holes this year, or just stuck some gum in the cracks.
The muffed punt notwithstanding, I thought Cade Johnson was one of our better wideouts during the preseason; I'd have given him Young's spot on the roster.
I'm guessing Collier only made the initial roster so they can move him to IR tomorrow afternoon. Will be interesting to see what other moves they make before Week 1.
I think Dareke Young is seen as a Ricardo Lockette-level special teamer and a guy who could develop as a WR, whereas Johnson is more developed as a WR but may not be as valuable on ST right now and doesn't have the "ceiling"
It was close, but I'm really glad they kept Young. Saw a story on his work ethic and attitude, and he has a chance at really improving.
He's also a gadget player like Deebo Samuel so I think they plan to use that aspect of his game. His size and speed will be good on STs, but then Johnson was good there too.
Bummed they kept Bellore over Jones or Muse. Bellore is a lot of fun, but he's not a real NFL linebacker. I bet the other guys can stick around on the practice squad though.
Fun Fact: Bellore played linebacker (exclusively) his first 6 years in the NFL and was an All-MAC 1st-Team selection (at linebacker) 3 of his 4 college seasons (2008, 2009, and 2010).
That said, his "real" value is as the captain of the Special Teams unit - something neither Jones nor Muse could challenge him on. (My $0.02)
Very happy the kept Young. I think he has some upside with his size/speed combo.
Thought Vi Jones might have a chance. I think they're looking over LB cuts across the league to bring in veteran guys to go with Brooks.
It's a surprising Seahawk year when I'm okay with both offensive and defensive lines.
I hope they use Alton Robinson more than they have in the past. He just seems to pesky in the other's team's backfield to not give him a few more snaps. A nice rotation of Taylor and Nwosu, with Mafe and ARob sprinkled in to keep them all fresh. Minus experience, might be our most talented Edges in a while.
Blair cut was the right call. It just sucks to think about what could have been without all the freak injuries.
Given that the team kept Collier, it speaks volumes that they would feel ok releasing Blair.

Jake had some nice drives against the Rams, I know that.

Thanks Joe . We are looking for Linebackers who do they cut when we get one or two

Cade does the 2 things I like best in a receiver. He gets open and he catches the ball.
I think he'll be back.

Bigger, stronger and as fast as Johnson. Johnson a better route runner at this point.

Really strange keep, in my opinion.

He doesn't have the sand in the pants to stack, shed and then tackle from the Mike position. But he's a special teams ace, and a glue teammate.
Very happy the kept Young. I think he has some upside with his size/speed combo.

Yeah, I wasn't surprised when I *thought* Vi Jones had made the roster.
Glad they cut Blair and Coleman. Hoping they bring back Vi Jones, Bo Melton, Darwin Thompson.
Seem like must-keeps for the PS.
Vi Jones cut
Onujiogu not cut
You are correct, updated now.
Well THAT was fast!
No real surprises (yet) but we all know this is not the 53 that the Seahawks will have by the time the Denver game rolls around.
