The Seattle Seahawks fired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, a report that was confirmed by head coach Mike Macdonald on Seattle Sports moments after the news broke on Twitter.
GRUBB’s OUT, WHAT’s NEXT: MY RADICAL TRADE IDEA FOR SEAHAWKS TO LAND FRANCHISE QB
The Seahawks could have chosen to not have any scapegoats for missing the playoffs this season, and noted that this was Macdonald and Grubb’s first year in these roles at the NFL level, but at least some blame is falling on the offensive coordinator. Whether there are any other people who get blamed for Seattle’s shortcomings is not yet known, but this would appear to make John Schneider and Macdonald pretty safe.
INTERESTING NUMBERS:
The Seahawks finished with the same ranking in total offense and total defense: 14th
They allowed the same number of first downs as they achieved as an offense: 329
However, Seattle was 5th in points per drive allowed and 23rd in points per drive on offense
The offense wasn’t easy to watch, especially in the red zone, but as fans could plainly see against the Rams backup unit in the season finale the defense also has a long ways to go to become one of the NFL’s best by next season.

Macdonald confirms that OL Scott Huff is not going anywhere
Grubb was a risk, and maybe the best they could find when they were looking last year. Still, I think they are bailing on him too quickly.
I remember Charbs 51 yard TD run, and Geno saying he audibled into that play. I think there was more in Grubb’s scheme than this collection of players was able to achieve, and with some personnel changes and an offseason to work on it Grubb might have been able to get something better going.
