Congrats to 'Special K' (klint Kubiak)!! Good to have an OC on board for sure...but, this armchair GM thinks the "hires" that are really gonna mean playoffs for our 'Hawks in '25 are big bada*s monsters on the O-line. Give me a top 5 O-line and I'll settle for an OC from Woodland Park...and pay'm with bananas (no offense to 'Klint' but he can't even spell his first name right...right?).

Daniel Jeremiah interview. 24 minutes, and I enjoyed and learned some stuff throughout the video, but I direct the Geno averse to watch at least the last 4 or 5 minutes, especially the last two minutes.

I believe SSJ is what I would call "Geno averse". Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I found, again, the hiring process odd. I always hope for them knowing what they want and going after it. This feels a bit like they had a plan A and ended up on plan B or C. Maybe not. Coach Mac will have no excuses for this one.

Who Knows?

He's either lost his job along with his Head Coach, which doesn't tell us much about his individual performance, or done well enough in lesser roles to get promoted to OC. But the big question as to whether he's any good at calling plays and making adjustments in real-time is still a bit of a mystery. We could look back at last season, but the Saints were a mess. They utilized their TEs and RBs well, but how much of that was due to a lack of options from their injury-depleted WRs? He didn't invent Taysom Hill or teach Kamara how to run routes, but he did make pretty good use of the limited offensive resources he was given to work with. Now, what offensive resources are we going to give him to work with?

Good luck, Klint Son of Gary!

I'm okay with the hire, but, if we are still complaining about the OL and how the QB isn't being protected next year, and, we can't score running the ball on 4 downs starting with 1st and goal at the 3 yard line, then, JS needs to go.

I may be wrong but it seems like Russell Wilson was complaining about the OL protection in 2017 or 2018 and between coaching changes and new draft classes our line is still ranked near the bottom of the pile. You keep doing the same thing and keep getting the same unsatisfying results just maybe it's time to " go a different direction. "

I think this is the right choice based on who they interviewed. But I was intrigued by Udinski and would be interested in seeing him come on as run game coordinator or passing game coordinator. That kind of gets to one of SSJ’s points in todays earlier piece about coordinators with teams not adequately developing up and coming coaches.

Dude is a decade older than that young phenom Grant fella, and they’re both kids to me. Let’s trust he’s learned some stuff during those 10 years, and unlearned some other stuff. My motto, if you’re not failing some of the time, you’re not trying hard.

Probably the best choice among a weak set of choices. In other words, the same way we choose our QBs. We weren’t going to go for another “inexperienced innovator”-type who’d never had the job before - solid experience handling an NFL offense with a running game was the main requirement. Now, we’ll see how the rest of the staff fills out.

With the same QB and the same IOL, probably the same result. The Saints O was nothing to write home about. Would have liked Kelly better.

Unimpressed! This is the pick after 3 weeks? Kubiak had such a great offense in New Orleans. 😂 It should be a defining moment for macdonald. For good or bad. I would like to have seen Grubb one more year. Lets see if Kubiak takes us to 11 or 12 wins.

It’s interesting that Grubb worked with the 30-32 best offensive line, an injured primary RB, a declining Lockett, etc. and still managed to lead the Hawks to the 14th ranked offense. Following that disaster he was fired and replaced by a guy who had injury issues of his own in New Orleans, but managed to lead them to 22nd ranked offense.

I’m old and may have forgotten my maths, but I thought having the 14th ranked offense was better than having the 22nd.

All I can assume is that MM and Grubb were so mismatched that this somehow makes sense. Seems like a mistake to me, but I guess time will tell.

I half expect PC and Bevell to have a better offense in LV next year than we see in Seattle. I certainly hope I’m wrong!

This is a good hire. He is young. He has had some success. He has some experience.

The Saints offense with Carr was pretty decent. I think he will have more talent in Seattle to work with.

He also comes in under a Head Coach with a clear plan. A more clear picture now of what he wants than a year ago.

Not sure this is as sexy as Grubb or maybe Chip Kelly or Udinski ... But he is only 38. Plays with a ton of motion. And should do a much better job of marrying run plays with play action.

Happy about the news ... Onward Hawks!

Yes I’ve noted we, generally speaking, are both better at WR and RB even if Saints had Olave and Kamara. Saints likely have us at TE but mainly due to Hill as a gadget do almost anything player. But agreed our groups are better so I like what Klint can do for us.

I hope this works out for the Hawks, obviously, but I’m underwhelmed by the selection.

Honestly I didn’t think any of the candidates they looked at had shown the creativity that Grubb had. I know Grubb had trouble adjusting as the season progressed and had differences of opinion with MM so the change had to be made. But I wonder whether it’s better to let a creative OC adapt to the NFL or switch to a pedestrian OC with more NFL experience, but little notable success.

In response to some questions about Kubiak's record (I'm sure SJ will go in depth shortly), I did see this article about his playcalling and changes the Saints started seeing last year. It is info, and does seem to indicate he likes motion and will work to his players' strengths.

One other thing about Kubiak, We signed a QB at the end of last season as a receiver/tight end. I think his name is Plumlee. He looks to be a similar athlete to Taylor Hill of the Saints. Maybe he can be used to add a dimension to the Seahawks offense.
