No question. I’m surprised that no one here had nominated Robert Mitchum.

The hype train is leaving the station and I’m stood on the platform, staring at my one-way ticket to Palookaville.

On the upside - it couldn’t get any worse than that second half against the Rams - complete ineptness on both sides of the ball and players looking like they were quitting before the end (first time I ever noticed for a Pete Carroll team). There must be some improvement from that. There must!

The downside: Lions are already on a tear and I think they will only get better. And good for them - they are the easiest second team to root for in football if you have a soul.

I don’t have a vision, as the fog of war is thick. But if Geno wilts like a neglected peace lily again.....let's not waste the season with a QB bleating at oncoming pass rushers and frantically dumping the ball off for two yard gains. Love the guy so hope he’s standing tall like a gunslinger, but it he’s “gone yella” it would already be time to roll the dice on Lock.

I so want to be positive. But I got a bad, bad feelin’ about this one.

Love the vision board. And I really hope this comes from a 24 hour stint in the sweat lodge. Those are the best visions ever.

I have no vision for this game. Just a desire to say......more Bobo please. He was so wide open for a TD last week and Geno didn’t see him.

Coolest actor playing coolest role? No question. Paul Newman played the titular Cool-Hand Luke. A guy who could stare down even a guard is reflective sunglasses known as "no eyes".

Personally I'd be more interested in your clear-eyed prediction, as your analytical skills are keen, rather than a vision of things unlikely to happen.

And on McQueen--Very interesting life story, early years in reform school, etc. Check it out.

Still scenting a whiff of that otherwise well-concealed bitterness in the $96 million comment. Hate to say it, but don't think I can sit through the agony watching this one. Will set to record and go about my day. Ask my wife to look up who won when it's long over. And if they lose, my heart will fall, but I will not have dug a ten foot hole in my gut. And if they win, well then I'll sit back and watch it, with just about as much enjoyment as if I'd seen it live. In fact, there's a little bonus this way. Because every time they screw up royally, I will say, "Ha-ha, but they're going to win anyway!"

Was it intentional putting a Ryan Gosling clip (and still) right before we face his Great Value version, Jared Goff?

I have no expectations for the Detroit game tomorrow. The hoop and hype of the off season and the preseason is over and reality is here.

We have some good players but I’m beginning to think we backed into the playoffs last year and we’re going to moonwalk our way into a top 15 pick in 2024.

I’m looking for a couple of good players to root for as the season progresses much the same way as I did when Zorn and Largent were playing. I didn’t expect to go to the playoffs but just enjoyed watching them play football.

“....give the Seahawks an advantage over an offensive line essentially starting four players who had never opened a season as a starter before...”

On Brock & Salk, Brady Henderson ascribed the pass rush issues to poor communications by guys who not played much together. I wondered how it was that a new Ram OL with much less talent communicated so well on the road.

Henderson also said that the coaches had yet figured out what they had with Devon Witherspoon. Because we are talking about the fifth pick in the first round and not the first pick in the fifth round, this was alarming to me. Devon Witherspoon is the left cornerback. It was one thing to entertain playing him in the slot when they briefly thought thought the team might have something unexpectedly special in Mike Jackson. Now that they know what they have in Jackson, there shouldn’t be any thought of playing Witherspoon in the slot.

Finally, I’ve had enough of the “Sean McVey is kryptonite to Pete Carroll.” McVey is human. His teams have been beaten. There is film of those games. It’s hard for me to believe that he intimidates Pete Carroll. The question to ask is why recent Seahawks’ teams have laid so many eggs at home against beatable teams (the Raiders and Panthers last year; the Cardinals and the Bears in 2021; the Giants in 2020).

To answer your last question, maybe because they're hens, not Seahawks, and they feel comfortable laying eggs in their own coop?

Geno thinks better in Away Games. Takes chances without any second thoughts. No hesitation. Success quiets the crowd instead of going deaf from the adoring 12s. I believe they won more on the road last year. I should look, but i'm beat from working my butt off today.

They won five at home, four on the road

I don't think Sean McVay intimidates Pete Carroll but I think Sean McVay, like Jeff Fisher before him, has benefited MASSIVELY from the presence of Aaron Donald. It's not like those two Seahawks wins over the Rams last year where decisive or impressive but the one factor that was absent for the first time in forever was Aaron Donald.

Coolest male lead... Denzel Washington. Every movie, even in the vulnerable parts of the roles, he just can't not be cool. Fatherly cool, husbandly cool, vigilante cool, gangster cool, BAMF cool.

My runner ups: McQueen, Harrison Ford, & James Dean

Clint Eastwood is pretty cool too. I think he’s got Washington’s measure. Also, how can we not mention John Wayne? Classic cool.

As far as recent goes, I might be bias, but Chris Hemsworth does a pretty good cool.

Village Idiot mentioned Wayne earlier, but he used his "The Duke" nickname, so a mulligan will be given

I love Denzel and it really doesn't matter what they cast him in, you know he'll be good in whatever role, no matter how schlocky and predictable the film around him is. I just wish that Hollywood would respect his talent and star power more with better roles (or alternatively that he and Spike Lee worked together more in the past 20 years, they bring out something special in each other).

Possibly Denzel is like Robert Mitchum. Mitchum saw acting as a profession and didn’t worry about his roles. “I think when producers have a part that's hard to cast, they say 'Send for Mitchum, he'll do anything'. I don't care what I play. I'll play Polish gays, women, midgets, anything."

Arguably Washington is the last Hollywood star of the Douglas/Stewart/Fonda/Poitier/Eastwood type: A very talented actor who is so well-suited to the camera that his screen personality is inevitably a powerful part of any role. (Talent is critical--the camera loved Jan-Michel Vincent to not much avail.)

And BTW getting >100 yds without both starting tackles will be a huge accomplishment. Gotta be sure we don’t fall behind, to start with. Need Cool Hand Luke not OMG Geno back there

Newman is the one guy along with Patrick Dempsey (who’s not so renowned as an actor) who racers would say “he broke away and became a a REAL racer”. Gets my #1 cool vote -- but McQueen definitely a close #2 -- with James Dean being right there at #3 BTW

McQueen, there is no debate. Honorable mentions go to Cary Grant for Most Suave and Roger Moore as the most Cool British Actor (Daniel Kaluuya and Tom Hiddleston could snatch that one). For 21st Century Cool, i'll pick out Yaha Abdul-Mateen II, with Donald Glover coming close, but too much goofy Troy to really be considered as the coolest. And, and before I foget, Tilda Swinton & Kristen Stewart come very very close to both 21st Century and overall cool, true idols the both of them.

For the Lions. My vision board simply says "expect pain". I can't quite figure out if that means good or bad things will happen, but i'm making sure to be mentally prepared.
