I have a big bucket of Costco peanut M&M's in the kitchen, and I scoop out a few whenever I feel like it. Last week, I always ate the red and yellow ones first; this week, I'm eating the blue and yellow ones first because they deserve to be crushed and devoured between my teeth! I save the green ones for last and savor them because they really are the best. Go 'Hawks!!

I'm in Southern California, so no matter where I go to watch football, I'm constantly surrounded by 49ers and Rams fans. Even my 11 year old daughter (going on 16) decided to cheer for the 49ers just to spite me. I was hoping the Bears could figure it out, because the Rams are scarier, but now that we're here I'm pretty excited for the opportunity to see Seattle crush the remaining spirits of sports fans in my community.

It's an interesting feeling. I'd much rather be in a room full of 12s, riding the same emotional wave as my fellow spectators. But there is some sick pleasure to be had in celebrating the downfall of your nemesis in front of their supporters; the dejected faces of everyone else in the room at that moment when they all know that the game is over.

If I can't have the easiest path to the Super Bowl, give me the most satisfying.

So :13 seconds into the game you saw their dejection!!!! lol

And now, apparently, the Bills want a new head coach.

Issac B's avatar

I think 10 is an NFL record.

Samuel Garfield's avatar

boring! I want to see the Seahawks play someone they haven't already played twice this season.

Grant Alden's avatar

Best two out of three falls or to a TV time limit!

Which is a shoutout to o Dean Silverstone and the immortal Dutch Savage.

It's fine that the Rams beat the Bears (FTR's!) as I really don't care who we play next, or who we play in the Super Bowl, if we get there. I trust Mike MacDonald and I trust this team. If they don't win, it won't be because they weren't prepared. They'll be ready to go, and the Rams better be too. I love the extra day of rest.

We had played the 9'ers recently and look what Seattle's coaching staff was able to cook up against them. We've played the Rams recently, and I expect we'll be equally well prepared. I think the league may see, your only advantage against Mike Macdonald is if he's NOT overly familiar with you. So playing him 3 times in one year may not be such a good idea.

I'm still basking in Saturday nights win. Way too early to get anxious about the Rams.

I wonder if CJ Stroud will get the Sam Darnold treatment. 4 interceptions in the biggest game of the year. Doesn't that get you a years worth of media coverage about how you can't win the big game?

Paul G's avatar

And then there’s Drake “MVP” Maye and his 14 fumbles and 10 interceptions.

Chris H's avatar

I don't know what it is about Sam Darnold that people build this narrative about. Has Zach Allen lost a number of big games and thrown picks in those big games? Yes. But he's revered all year long despite all that. I'm not arguing that Allen isn't an amazing player, he totally is. But if the measure of a QB is only how you play in big games, he wouldn't rate too highly. He's been bested over and over again.

The only thing we can do is tune out the noise. As SSJ has pointed out, if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl, it likely won't be because of Sam Darnold. He needs to play well, but he doesn't need to go out and win the game on his own. So when all is said and done, he probably still won't get any credit.......which is fine. A Lombardi Trophy will be credit enough.

Regards Stroud- he likely had his first REALLY COLD weather game (Cali kid and ya, tOSU in college but not that cold there)...Just a thought.

He has a lot of latent talent if he can get the head correct.

Mark's avatar

Well said. ESPECIALLY the first para.

zezinhom400's avatar

Was wondering the same thing. Think the bloom came off the rose on Stroud last year already, and nothing he did this year did anything to help that. And then last night, yeah that was a real stinker. Difference with Darnold is Darnold had the 14 wins and legit QB stats to go with it -- just flopped in the last two games. Whereas Stroud was clearly carried by the defense and last night when it was time to put up, he failed miserably. Only question marks at QB for Houston at this point.

Rams will be a tough out but I like the story arc of running the NFC West gauntlet. Then, a revenge match SB against the Pats. Look at what this team has done since their 4th quarter comeback against the Rams. Bring it!

zezinhom400's avatar

Oh yuck. Man is he overpaid. Romo clearly better commentator IMHO and even Collinsworth I prefer over Brady.

Ned Jordan's avatar

Have the Rams really looked the same since the Hawks beat them in OT? I think that game broke them in some way. I think those ghosts will haunt them in full force next week.

Rich's avatar

My choice between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots is the Broncos because it would make me sick that Robert Kraft would have a hay-day participanting in Super Bowl 60.

Sum monkey's avatar

Broncos = juicy grape. Patriots = revenge game a decade in the making. Pretty sure we will run the damn ball this time.

rpmschevy's avatar

Nothing wrong with a pass that play. Had RW simply looked left and that Willison would’ve been open, we likely win. Or at least get Marshawn the ball next play. No Barnyard back then.

I hope the Pat's win next weekend.

I'm looking forward to playing and beating Shanahan, McVay, and Vrabel coached teams, complete with the two presumptive MVP candidates one after the other. Then we can talk about who's the genius coach, and which QB we'd rather have.

Edit: Now that I think about it for a second, the last three games of the regular season were against L.A., the division champion Carolina Panthers, and San Francisco. That would be a pretty tough 6 game strech. Bring it on!

Rusty's avatar

This is the year we get to finally get rid of the stink that collects on you when two divisional rivals own you for at least 5 years. We’ve beaten them both in the regular season and one so far in the playoffs. Once we take down the Rams next Sunday, there will finally be a new sheriff in town. And by town I mean the NFC.

Soon to be the entire NFL.

I have to fly to Palm Springs on Friday for my nephews wedding which is set for Sunday the 25th at 3:30. I can't believe this is really happening. I feel I am going to need some sort of spy gear, like a miniature Bluetooth earpiece and glasses with a screen embedded in them.

At least I will get to watch them in the Superbowl.

Charley Filipek's avatar

oh, dang, that Is funny.

Paul G's avatar

I forgot about this one when SSJers were recommending football movies. The whole movie is hilarious.

Grant's avatar

That sucks!

But if they win you'll be too happy to care about not seeing it live, and you've got the Super Bowl to look forward to.

And if they lose, at least you won't embarrass yourself by crying at the wedding.

Either way, the reception will be good for you.

Ned Jordan's avatar

Look for glasses with bone conduction audio and stream the radio coverage - no earpiece required.

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

Outbursts during solemn ceremonies will be Bad Form. First half will be tough.

Sum monkey's avatar

Why don’t you shut off any phone media notifications, DVR and stream it after the wedding? You won’t know the outcome, just as exciting. This is how I watch the game every week. Screw commercials anyway.

Paul Johnson's avatar

Williams throws an amazing game tying TD pass and then in OT throws a pass so far off the mark (for an interception) that it makes me think the only explanation was a misQ with the receiver?

Chris H's avatar

He said after the game that it was a miscommunication. QB saw one thing, WR another. Unfortunate for them.

Beezo's avatar

With no one behind Moore, why not air it out? If Williams is already throwing it to a spot that is going to be a difficult catch, why not doing it deep and to the sideline, rather than short and to the sideline?

Grant's avatar

When he let that pass go, with no pressure on him whatsoever, I was sure it was game over. I guess I was right about the game being over, but wrong about the outcome.

After watching it over a few times, I'm not sure miscommunication explains it. By my eyes, Curl was right where he needed to be and would have been able to make a play on that pass no matter where DJ Moore took his route.

Defjames's avatar

Sherm discussed this on his podcast. He can explain it better than me.

Defjames's avatar

Moore quit on the route

rpmschevy's avatar

Maybe but Williams is only 58% completion this season. That is horrible for a QB in a passing league. Yes he at least is marginally better than Newton, RB who cosplayed a QB but Williams immaturity, just like when he was at USC is huge (see his antics the week before). Until he matures that athleticism will not work out.

zezinhom400's avatar

It was fated to this. The Rams were still favored by many to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, even after their 5th loss. So the two best teams in the NFL will face off again for all the marbles. So far this year:

Rams 58 pts 830 yds

Seahawks 57 pts 829 yds

I think we’ve gotten progressively better and better esp due to the running game, while Rams have sorta been stumbling since that explosion against us.

Time to find out!

Mark's avatar

Liked- but you sit at 12 so I'm leaving it alone!

zezinhom400's avatar

Gotta be one of the most iconic symbols of any team anywhere in the world -- no offense to the aggies, but say "12's" and the answer is "Seahawks!!"

Beezo's avatar

I just don’t get how Stafford & Co are able to exploit our zones, yet Purdy & Co can’t. Is there that much of a talent discrepancy between Stafford & Nacua to Purdy & Jennings?

I saw something at the beginning of the season, I think it was from All 22 Films, that said the two teams that have O’s that can exploit MM system are the Rams & 49ers. So far half of that has been true.

I guess, I don’t love the feeling of it being our O that will need be the difference maker in order to win.

Grant's avatar

Yes, there is that much talent discrepancy between Stafford/Nacua vs Prudy/Jennings. Purdy is a good improviser, and maybe they're even at diagnosing plays/field-vision, but Stafford is better at everything else including far superior arm talent.

Nacua is arguably the most dominant WR in the NFL (let's go with 2nd best) and Jennings, or any other 49ers WR, just doesn't come remotely close.

rpmschevy's avatar

Personally I think Nacua is this way because of Stafford. You put him on just about any other team ( no not KC or Buffalo) and he is not near this good. Personal opinion but recall he was passed up by every team including Rams. If he was this dominate in college he doesn’t fall. McVay and Stafford pump up his stats.

Beezo's avatar

Yeah, you’re right, thinking about it more, he is a crazy hybrid receiver. He has the soft spot in zone awareness of Lockett, but has the contested catch strength of a big man (maybe Davante Adams).

BR's avatar

Not an x and o person but I've seen it said that Mac d takes away the run and middle of field.

That is the bread and butter of Shanahan offense so I'm not surprised about those results. Stafford otoh is amazing at deep sideline throws, which may be an inherent vulnerability. And in general he is clearly a much better QB than Purdy. And Nacua is much better than any SF pass catcher.

Beezo's avatar

Nacua is strong too. That guy can pick up yards after contact.
