Charlie Gage basically said it all! Fix the Center position and Mac improves the D ( coaching and some players) and I believe Seattle could be better than many think. Go Hawks!

“Shoot for the moon, you may get over the back fence”. I got that from a motivational speaker. I don’t recall his name or anything else that he said., but that always stayed with me. Seaside Joe believes the Seahawks should look after themselves and not worry about the competition.

The Rams have a totally different approach per Seaside Joe , win the division get back to the Super Bowl. If you are doing everything you can to win the division and get to the Super Bowl., then you will automatically do everything to improve your team. at this point in time we do not know how the Seahawks will shake out. we do know how the Rams and Sean McVay approach the season and it’s not about just trying to improve their team. If you’re not shooting for the moon, what’s the point?

It is way-to-early to assess rosters, when cuts, FA signings, and the draft haven't even taken place yet. Everyone got the Rams wrong even after the preseason last year. But since it is speculation season I'll play along.

- Arizona looks good early in the season, but fades late and misses the playoffs again. But, they do draft a rookie QB, and start playing him late in the year when Arizona pulls a Denver on Murray, and benches him with a couple of games left.

- The Rams either over-achieved their roster last year, or McVay is the best coach in the NFL right now, or both. They'll have a slightly better record than last year (a win or 2 better) and will challenge the niners for the division.....until Stafford gets injured late-season, ruining their chances to win a playoff game.

- The Niners will be right in the thick of it again next year, and will battle for the top NFC seeds. The division will be settled with the head-to-head match-ups with the Rams, but San Fran win out in the end, but lose in the NFC championship game.

- The Seahawks will be better on 3rd downs on both sides of the ball, but will still be in the 8-10 win area, losing some of the close games they won last year. But we will see glimmers of what's to come, and a similar record to the last few seasons will not be nearly as discouraging. We will win 4 of our last 5 games. And, we will draft a rookie QB to sit behind either Lock or Geno, but they won't see the field until year 2.

The Niners went into this last year with an 'unbeatable' swagger and played up to it all season. Star veterans played like there was no tomorrow, something I don't expect they can keep up next year. This Super Bowl loss blew holes in their career arc. And is there some parity gimmick the League uses for teams in high income tax States versus those with low or no income taxes? Maybe Bobby Wagner can answer that.

Hopefully that SB loss will have a similar effect to our SB loss to the Pats. That would be great. But I won't hold my breath. Too much talent on that roster, but ya never know.

The difference between the Seahawks and the Cardinals - is if in 2024 the Cardinal’s QB throws for 3900 yards, 25 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a Qb rating of 95 the Cardinals will be thrilled, whereas if Geno puts up the same stats (average of the last two years) he will bet cut. That is because if the Cardinals get above average QB play they are close, whereas no matter how well Geno plays the Seahawks have to improve exponentially on the defensive and offensive lines to be close.

Sorry just one more comment about Brooks.

Patrick Queen was actually trailing Brooks and by most measures not a keeper, till McDonald got his hands on him. And last season Brooks was coming back from injury. Call me crazy but I think McDonald turns him into something special. Sign the man!

I can see the Niners suffering a Super Bowl hangover just because the game was such a horrible loss with a dismal aftermath. Kyle Shanahan froze up and botched the OT possession and then—unsurprisingly for a Shanahan—threw his DC under the bus. That stuff leaves a bad taste in the mouths of players—it’s an open question as to how committed they’ll be. Stumbling through a 9-8 / 8-9 season wouldn’t surprise me a bit.

I’m with you, Seattle 3rd in the division. But, I expect a major uptick from the defense, as long as they cut Jamal Adams and keep Leonard Williams. With Uchoa back and if they keep Brooks, I think McDonald gets us WAY better. I’m thinking 10-7 actually, but losing 3 of 4 to Rams and Niners (and Detroit, GB, Buffalo and Miami) either gets the last wildcard spot or has us just out bc of the 5 conference losses.

The thing is, if the defense is better the offense will be on the field more often (kinda obvious but sometimes we forget a better defense helps you have a higher scoring offense), and I don’t see a reason for an offensive fall-off unless we lose “3rd Down No-E” to the cap and don’t find a replacement. Expect Lucas to be back but if he’s not, basically the same as 2023.

So put me in for 10-7 in part due to a friendlier schedule (refuse to believe in Jets or Giants until they force me to, esp if we get them in MetLife — although maybe that was a Carroll jinx for them having fired him), but mostly bc of a better defense.

I believe the Seahawks could have won at least three more games this past season with a slightly better defense (Bengals, Cowboys and second Rams game) which would have given them 12 wins. I think that McDonald's defensive Improvements could give them that this year if the offense stays the same. I see major tackling improvements and that alone will give them a better defense. Hopefully Coach Mike will get the D going quickly and Geno won't have to have so many come from behind wins.
