I was so accustomed to the 4th quarter miracles after years of last second wins with Wilson that last night just seemed like a repeat of the 2014 NFC Championship game, and dozens of season games until the culture changed in the team. There were 12 minutes left in 4th Q when I knew there was enough time to take control. Their missed FG was an omen we had a much better chance at winning than they did. It was almost funny that people were leaving early, stuck outside in the parking lot when things started to take a major turn. The importance of this game gave it an increased emotional response, much like the 2014 game against Green Bay.
So, I cannot "honestly say if I was confident in the 2-point play or not because the answer changed about 7 times between the td and the try.
I will say that in an interview with Rich Eison he said that the coaching staff discussed the possibility of that very same situation during the week, and because a loss was almost as bad as a loss the decided to go. Which obviously is better than making a decision in the heat of the battle.
Rich also said that was first successful 2 point try in NFL history. They do not get attempted very often.
On a separate note, I am going to go out on a thick branch and say that the over under win total will be more than 7 or 8 and a half next year.
So I’m wondering about last nights passing. After seeing the ref’s pants flapping in the wind (while still wearing them… ;-) seems to me like Kubiak kept the down field passing to a minimum. Even Darnold’s TD to Barner looked like it kind of took off.
Passes by both QBs seem more off than normal.
And as our Defense said in the 4th quarter…..Submit Or Die, Assholes.
"Kinda starting to feel like Shaheed will be re-signed." ~ KINDA ? ! Whoa, numbers of other teams will be knocking at Mr. Rashid Shaheed's door if'n the Hawks don't. He's on an upward trajectory. Please, Re-sign this special young man. Actually, his BD and our oldest son are the same day.
$12mil will be under, i think closer to $18mil, just a hunch. I think KK values RS and has eyes on him as a Kupp replacement (well, sort of) to compliment JSN as an additional deep speed threat, with an array of TE's and another as yet known WR (I think there's a strong chance our first pick is a WR, in Round 2... i'm split between WR and RB in Rd 2, at least one of each by the end of the 3rd). Gadget player yes but he's shown in NO what he can be as a deep threat paired with an Ohio WR1, just now with more in-motion sweep threat and strong usefulness to ST (basically he's Cordarrelle Patterson but better... idk there arn't a ton of genuine Joker's to compare him to).
Obsessing over highlights and my big takeaway - I really really really really really really really really hate those uniforms. really really really really really really really
Yes i'm obsessed with the throwback jersey but ugh we look so ugly in that weird blue/green (i call it barf) iridescent helmet and grey/green/grey everything else, it's just not a good mix. Super dull tones with too many shiny flecks. Like a Christmas party vomited on the sidewalk. I really really really hate them. But if it means we can win, i'll suck it up and deal with it. For the good of the Seahawks.
Slight Over-excited Deranged Analysis - All my posts are SODA! Y'all'l get more Fanta-stic insights as if there was a Dr Pepper here to give us all 7-Up-beat takes and Sprite-ly ramblings for a while yet.
1. I miss the wolf grey uni’s. By far my favorite combo was grey on grey.
2. Tbh I think the Ram’s got the best color, but should have been used for Seattle. The blue so dark it looks black would be a homage to the overcast weather of Seattle.
There's so, so, so much to say. But since the focus is on Darnold, so much of this feels like scheme. When he was baited into the two INTs, you just knew Schula had a plan to muddle the coverage. Which means you really want Seattle to bait the bait. Imagine a stacked look there and you take the top off with the corner biting. Which means you have to play several chess moves ahead. I haven't seen Kubiak do that enough, but it's going to be necessary going forward. All this season I've been hoping/thinking that the plan with the offense was to "run our plays" to put content on tape and then waggle when the tape says you'll wiggle. Instead they just kept wiggling and got burned.
Shaheed: Okay, he changes the game, twice, and for that reason, arguably, they win. But I don't know whether it was pressure or that muddled secondary, but it seems like once again Seattle can't effectively use his speed in actual passes. That's just bonkers. Look at the slants to JSN when Seattle finally responds by going inside rather than outside. Why isn't that baited, again? Once JSN burns you inside you want to take that away, and then where is Shaheed deep? Again, maybe there's no time for that. But you also didn't see it.
Imagine if Coop doesn't fumble on that first half-ender and Seattle scores. What kind of game do we have? Even imagine Jones completes the pick? There were a lot of what-ifs that could have changed this game.
If I'm concerned going forward, it's that you only get so many chances at being heroes. It's way easier to imagine Seattle losing a game like this than winning it. And Carolina is a wounded animal.... And SF isn't going to lay down easily, either. Luckily at least SF has a competitive match against Chicago. Do the Colts really have anything left in them after that loss to Seattle?
The comment about Shaheed that remind me of the Holmgen years. He loved to have Hasselbeck through a go route deep shot during the first drive. I was young, but it always annoyed me, because it felt like a wasted play. However, thinking back, I’m guessing he did that to help open up the run & short passing game.
>>Do the Colts really have anything left in them after that loss to Seattle?<< I'm thinking Dr. Phil is exactly what they need to finish out as a Spoiler while having a total blast doing so. At Home, no less. Expect to see a whole lot of butts in seats for the Holidays.
I think Cross being out also had to factor into less deep shots. With Panthers/49ers pass rush relatively weak, we should see more long balls next 2 weeks.
I am terribly conflicted by the consistently great stats that Jobe puts up, and the fact that almost every game it seems like there is at least one would-be huge play by the opponent given up by Jobe that somehow gets negated (drops, penalties, overthrows).
I dont think he is a bad corner, but the eye-test often indicates that he may be our biggest liability at corner right now between he, Woolen and Spoon. So I am skeptical of paying him a market rate extension, especially given Macdonald’s track record of turning unheralded corners into reliable starters. If I remember correctly, his last season in Baltimore they were at the bottom of their corner depth and still putting up elite numbers as a defense and those guys were getting a lot of praise i.e. Arthur Maulet.
My emotions going through the 4th quarter and OT were angry and hopeful. Angry at the defeatist, negative comments about the Hawks and hopeful they would mount a comeback. Since week 5, I’ve switched to watching Thursday night games on the next gen alternative broadcast and not the main broadcast. The Next Gen broadcaster that chimes in with stats said there was a 70% chance the Seahawks would still have time for 2 more drives when there was almost 10 minutes left. Having three drives left was also a possibility but not a probability (they did have three drives in reality) It was a two score game (30-14) The Seahawks D got three consecutive 3 and outs against Stafford. This team never had a doubt in itself, why would I? This is the second Rams game in a row where the Seahawks outplayed the Rams by a very significant degree in the 4th quarter and OT. Maybe Pete is right about some things.
Say what you want about Darnold’s turnovers, but he is not phased one bit, and come back slinging it with total confidence. Sure, you can say that duplicating this comeback will be hard in the next matchup, but we went from 4 to 3 turnovers. At a minimum the three turnovers cost the Seahawks two field goals for themselves and gave the Rams a TD. It was similar in the first meeting. Turnovers spot points to your opponent. If Darnold can go from 4 (1st game) to 2 (this game) to 0 turnovers in the playoff meeting. The Seahawks win big!
I was strangely calm and relaxed during the final drive and conversion. I just felt confident the Seahawks would pull it out for some reason. Not entirely sure why, maybe I picked up on something coming from the players themselves as they took the field or maybe I was just spent at that point, but I had a good feeling that this team would win it in the end.
I’ll be at Ford Field watching my (distant) second favorite team smash the Steelers! The Seahawks win is a double victory because now I get to enjoy the several hundred dollars I dropped on a ticket and root for the Lions without reservation!

It really did not feel like the defense managed even 16 pressures in the game
Now I have a weird Al song going through my head.
“I met the little runt down on Dagoba where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda. S-O-D-A, soda.”

Do you mean the first successful overtime 2pt conversion?
I think he's trying to say it was the first successful 2pt in OT on TNF, rather than ever in the NFL :p

Looked like Eagles colors and similar to Oregon Ducks uni. Helmets are nice though.
Way too much like the Ducks. But yet I still like the helmet from yesterday’s game.

Some of the play-calling has to factor into potential 3rd game with Rams. Likely to open it up more with deep play-actions to JSN/Sheed.
MM said he's not putting any restrictions on Sam. Quite the opposite.
I think Cross being out also had to factor into less deep shots. With Panthers/49ers pass rush relatively weak, we should see more long balls next 2 weeks.
I will say Jones looked pretty competent out there. I am breathing a little bit easier about the left tackle position.

>>next gen alternative broadcast<< I'll be looking into this. Thanx Danno.
"only got noticed for how un-noticeable they were on Thursday."
Except for one play. Boye Maye was flagged for lining up in the neutral zone. That's twice in recent games!
JS"s trade for Shaheed for a 4th and 5th was pure genius!
