Statement win , good to see Mcvay looking pissed :)
Dont look past Carolina ....trust the process , that said...
Turnovers gonna be our undoing both short term ( winning next two for the one seed ) & long term ( winning it all ) , current turnover imbalance not sustainable , ST & D cant continue to bail the team out
I don't see a scenario in which Seattle cruises to the 1 seed. The only one you've provided has Santa Clara and Inglewood lose their next games, which seems highly unlikely. Seattle will still need to win out as the only stat in our favor is win-loss record.
If either of our divisional opponents win out, and therefore we don't, there's not one tiebreaker going in our favor. 49ers, Rams winning out and us beating the Panthers nets us a 3-way tie at 13-4 in the NFCW.
I'm looking at the first two tiebreakers:
1 — Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs). (SF takes this on account of sweeping us and splitting vs LA)
2 — Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division. (SEA will be 3-3. LA will have beaten ARI and be 4-2
It's not unlikely that SF drops a game against CHI and IND but I do find it hard to imagine LA falling to either ATL or ARI. That would again require we sweep, because in case of an L vs CAR and W vs SF we lose to LA in the third tiebreaker: Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games (AFCS + NFCS), with LA dropping a game to only CAR in this scenario, and us losing to CAR and TB.
I don't think we will need to worry about tiebreakers. We are going to win the next two games.
New Orleans has won 5 games all year. Two of their wins were against Carolina. I don't think they will be much of a problem. They did beat the Lambs but lost to Arizona and SF.
I also think we beat SF. They have too many injuries. If we get our secondary healthy, we should be able to handle them.
Whoa boy. Slow down a little. One game at a time without worrying about what everyone else may or may not do. Just focus on winning the next play. Let’s not get too over confident just yet. I’m thankful we’ve clinched a spot and still hope of winning the SB. But that’s still a long ways off (& I don’t want to jinx it).
We now own our Fate. Unlike Pete's teams, let's cease assigning it to others. Become a team that once earning our opportunity, we do not release it. Come take it.
After games like this, my dad would say, "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good..." Yup!
Enjoyed Richard Sherman's post game stoke - no fake broadcaster impartiality, ready to suit up! Liked the brief post-game shot of McVay looking real pissed off.
Before Hawks pulled several horseshoes from their nether regions, it was grim. I was gonna say (and still believe) Rams had the better QB, better #1 receiver, better OC. Rewinding, the Nacua OT TD was a masterful call & execution - cross up the zone and throw into the great wide open.
A gent mentions below - Stafford didn't face D line pressure most of the game. Replay of 2 pt. lateral to Charbonnet makes it clear Rams had that play 110% diagnosed from the snap - "sometimes it's better to be lucky than good..."
After Sam was almost picked (late Q1?), Hawk O resorted to overly conservative passing component. O got too predictable - thank God for K9 explosives & a Hawk D with 40+ minute stamina!
Is Hawk receiving corps that coverable or should KK have had a better plan B if they got worried about Sam getting picked w/plan A? O was so stagnant after Q1, if Q2-Q3 was plan B, maybe no time to rehearse B w/TNF turnaround time??
By the time Hawk Q4 hole was dug, I guess it was obvious, Hawks & Sam needed to go down swinging instead of playing scared. Nobody wants a 4 int repeat. But Sam's all we got. He's gotta sling a few because run blocking isn't good enough to carry the O.
For all the "...KK's gonna be HC...", I say, "KK steal a few lessons from McVay right now, because Hawk O game plan didn't work." SF is no pushover and Hawks won't go far in playoffs w/the Q2-Q3 duck and cover O vs Rams.
One thing that wasn’t just luck… The Seahawks got the ball across the goal line eight times (one lucky one; five were TDs), and the Rams did it four times. They were 7 of 8 on kicks. We were 2 of 2.
I like that our crossing the goal line had more value than their kicks, even if by just one point.
If any Rams fans moan about the helmet score, remind them that they failed by not instinctively going for the ball sitting on the field, and that even with three turnovers, they allowed five touchdowns and two solid two pointers to the QB with a reputation for folding in big games.
Regarding the punt return, the Rams put every kickoff into the end zone. They knew we had the advantage. The first time we had a chance at a return, we showed who was better on ST.
In OT, they had the chance to stop us and failed. Twice.
So, rather than luck, I see it as two great teams where we had a clear ST advantage and we gutted it out in the end. 😀
True ST advantage over Rams & everyone. ST wasn't very good in 2024. Not only better in 2025 but consistently better than opps. Shaheed a heckuva pick up. If Hawks can turn his speed & moves into a consistent #2 receiver the O would be hard DC's to plan against. fingers crossed.
Also, Tory Horton should return soon - at a time when the run game is getting better. Imagine three deep Go routes plus a recently improved running game. Now, with two-high, you’ve cleared five defenders out of the area and at least four are rushing. Dump it off to K9, and he’s looking at lots of empty, green grass.
If it’s single high, go play action, roll Sam out to buy another second of time, and someone will have beat the coverage.
With JSN, Shaheed, and Horton in the formation, defensive players and coaches will say, “Oh, [fill in the blank].”
You must realize that the Hawks D is very dominate and that is why they are 12 - 3. The offense, with Darnold, is good enough to win 12 games and limit our 3 loses by only 9 points total. Because of such they only lost to the Rams by two points after FOUR interceptions (and a missed field goal). Thursday, again because of such, they won even after turning the ball over THREE times. We seen to have the capability to overcome anything, no matter who they play.
Lately, I’ve been looking at average starting field position as a key factor. In the first Rams game and the Colts game, we were at roughly a 20 yard disadvantage.
Yesterday on average, we started at the 38.4, and they started on the 26.8. They got a turnover where they started on our one yard line. I counted our punt return TD as starting on their zero yard line. 😉
This was a hidden advantage of our special teams. We kicked off to force returns. They kicked off into our end zone, like cowards. 😎
Basically, we won the goal line, scoring eight times, including five TDs. They were 3 of 4 on field goals, with *just* four TDS.
Their TDs came from the one yard line, as well as from their 38, 20, and 15 (ouch.) Our TDs were from the punt return, the 43, 39, 35, and 35.
Their FG attempt drives started from their 27, 24, 20, and 12. Their punts were from the 26, 22, 12, and 11.
Aside from a start at the 15 at the end of regulation, and one from the 23 that resulted in a punt, we never started behind our 35. The fumble and interception drives started from the 35.
Aside from the punt return, the significant contribution from special teams was stealthy. This and the ability of our defense to force kicks was the reason our points beat their yards. Well, that and our ability to get the ball over the goal line - even if one was off a helmet.
“Can you describe your emotions going into Seattle’s final drive and final play?”
Hopeful, but otherwise calm. It’s just a game—I save my emotions for victory.
“Did anyone have flashbacks to “that” Super Bowl?”
No, but I’m on the far end of the Bell curve. Tough loss, but not the first tough loss in the history of sports. In context, not remotely close to the prolonged Grady Little brain fart in Game 6 of the 2003 ALCS.
This is the video of the play Hall got suspended for. To me it looks like it was an accident and NOT intentional. Hopefully he can make this clear on his appeal.
I was so accustomed to the 4th quarter miracles after years of last second wins with Wilson that last night just seemed like a repeat of the 2014 NFC Championship game, and dozens of season games until the culture changed in the team. There were 12 minutes left in 4th Q when I knew there was enough time to take control. Their missed FG was an omen we had a much better chance at winning than they did. It was almost funny that people were leaving early, stuck outside in the parking lot when things started to take a major turn. The importance of this game gave it an increased emotional response, much like the 2014 game against Green Bay.
Definitely. However, those last second deep ball plays that won so many games with Wilson made for weekly nailbiters. Stressful, but, yes, the Championship game was the craziest ever.
Running down the sideline along with the player heading for a TD, jumping in the air with both arms up, so much enthusiasm. The sidelines during the Carroll era were as entertaining as the games.
A few times it almost looked like they were playing contain, like they were trying to bait a throw. But vs. Rams/Stafford/McVay that doesn't make sense - so I don't know what I was seeing.
So, I cannot "honestly say if I was confident in the 2-point play or not because the answer changed about 7 times between the td and the try.
I will say that in an interview with Rich Eison he said that the coaching staff discussed the possibility of that very same situation during the week, and because a loss was almost as bad as a loss the decided to go. Which obviously is better than making a decision in the heat of the battle.
Rich also said that was first successful 2 point try in NFL history. They do not get attempted very often.
On a separate note, I am going to go out on a thick branch and say that the over under win total will be more than 7 or 8 and a half next year.
So I’m wondering about last nights passing. After seeing the ref’s pants flapping in the wind (while still wearing them… ;-) seems to me like Kubiak kept the down field passing to a minimum. Even Darnold’s TD to Barner looked like it kind of took off.
Passes by both QBs seem more off than normal.
And as our Defense said in the 4th quarter…..Submit Or Die, Assholes.
"Kinda starting to feel like Shaheed will be re-signed." ~ KINDA ? ! Whoa, numbers of other teams will be knocking at Mr. Rashid Shaheed's door if'n the Hawks don't. He's on an upward trajectory. Please, Re-sign this special young man. Actually, his BD and our oldest son are the same day.
Does this mean we have to keep wearing the fishnet New York Jets uniforms?

2 fer 1. I like it. Theme of the week.

I agree. The team that gets the #1 seed needs to win out. Starting against the Colts, we are in playoff mode.

"Before Hawks pulled several horseshoes from their nether regions, it was grim. "
... what a line, Mike A. Good one.

Zackward. Not as catchy as Beastquake but unique and original.

Agree. He hopefully wins the appeal.
This is why there are Appeals. What? They got him saying "I'm so pissed off I'm gonna step on his foot?"
It looked like he stepped over him and was doing his best to do just that!
WTF? I failed to see a penalty much less a suspension. C'mon, man.

I would love to get back to saying "Don't ever count this Team out".
I would rank that NFC Championship game as the only game that was crazier than last night's game. Can't think of any other games that come close.
Definitely. However, those last second deep ball plays that won so many games with Wilson made for weekly nailbiters. Stressful, but, yes, the Championship game was the craziest ever.
I loved watching Pete go from fits of fury to pure joy. I think it aged him.
Running down the sideline along with the player heading for a TD, jumping in the air with both arms up, so much enthusiasm. The sidelines during the Carroll era were as entertaining as the games.
It really did not feel like the defense managed even 16 pressures in the game
A few times it almost looked like they were playing contain, like they were trying to bait a throw. But vs. Rams/Stafford/McVay that doesn't make sense - so I don't know what I was seeing.
Now I have a weird Al song going through my head.

As we closed into the Red Zone, I recall Herbstreet observing MM pulling down his mic, betting he was telling Kubiak to find his best 2 pt play.
Do you mean the first successful overtime 2pt conversion?
Woops, yes I did.
I think he's trying to say it was the first successful 2pt in OT on TNF, rather than ever in the NFL :p
It was the first successful OT 2 pointer in history. The old, sudden death rules made those conversions unnecessary.
Rich said it was first successful in ot in all games, but I did not check.
Just asked google and they said it was first successful in any ot game ever.
Dear Pete: You tie in the 4th and win in OT...
So I’m wondering about last nights passing. After seeing the ref’s pants flapping in the wind (while still wearing them… ;-) seems to me like Kubiak kept the down field passing to a minimum. Even Darnold’s TD to Barner looked like it kind of took off.

And as our Defense said in the 4th quarter…..Submit Or Die, Assholes.
Seemed to me Sam was off all night, but you're right: the wind had a lot to do with it. Barner's pass was sailing... good on him for corralling it.
"Submit or die, Assholes." I love it. New nick name for the D.
That's another thing JS has had a good track record with for mid-season trades.
I can't help but feel John has some way to get the guys to agree to abide by his budget next year. Team Pride is a factor this year.
