So we're going further this week than we were last week! O-line plus pro bowl center! Next week Lucas comes back and we take another step forward! Where does it end? NFC championship or....?

Finding good value and bargains is fine as far as it goes. On the other hand: "if you do as you've always done you'll get as you've always gotten". The cheap OL may be a by-product of overpayment elsewhere, and little more. I'm encouraged by JS going out and getting a healthy enough Connor Williams (Olu may fill in well enough if Williams is short-term injured). Lastly, the OL is very likely a multi-year work-in-progress. That's better than the last few years (Jason Peters should enjoy retirement - he deserves it after all those years in the trenches.)

It will be interesting to see how much MORE effort Lewis puts out, now he is into the Wild Money. Making a million or two should be good enough reason to go out and do your best. Any doubts, just ask your folks. If our Stars return for just a bit less than Market next year, the money could be promised to our historically underpaid Big Guys. If JS has laid this out and the Men take him at his Word, WATCH OUT! Seattle needs to be a place Big Men want to go to and stay. Instead of co-workers, we have a shot at developing real Brothers who feel at home. As someone who determined to sink his roots here 50 years ago, I continue to see the benefits of doing so. We need to turn our houses into Homes.

Oh, and Ken! Thanks to both yourself and Jay for inviting us into your Home! Just don't be going under the covers with a flashlight and laptop to hammer out messages. I'm fully on-board with an asterisk.

I’m optimistic about our line this year, especially if Lucas makes it back healthy. Cross, Williams, Lucas, Haynes and Tomlinson or Bradly- could make a far above average unit and then with good coaching and strong schemes and play calling I think we ca n go a long ways, especially if coach M has defense firing on all cylinders! Let’s go Hawks!!!

With the offensive fire power we have and a new, creative O scheme, just an average or above average OL line will improve the wins. Keeping fingers crossed for no long term injuries.

I agree with this optimism. Pass protection is crucial, and unfortunately, I think Geno takes a little longer (just a little) to get the ball out. I wonder how much Grubb/Huff can compensate for any weaknesses on the line in the new offense.

I think if you watched Udub vs Michigan the answer is in there somewhere. At some point scheme doesn’t beat talent. Agreed that this is a multi year effort and …. coach Mac convincing the FO that you have to pay for talent in the trenches. They do have a good bit now on D. Look at the Chiefs as a comp, or the Rams on O line though. Both spend more and recognize that the talent positions (save qb) don’t have to be as deep as long as you can block. Sure, there’s a fair gap between Mahomes and Geno, but Stanford and Geno aren’t leagues apart. So you have to ask what happens if Geno’s on the Rams and has just .25 seconds more time on drop backs….

I attended my first ever Seahawks training camp day yesterday and was treated to multiple fights. I had no frame of reference so didn’t know if that was normal, but driving home I heard a Seahawks beat reporter say he had never seen that many fights in 15 years covering the team. I didn’t play any organized team sports past early high school so I’m asking more experienced community members if they have a sense as to whether this is a good sign or bad. I know practice was stopped a bit early and expect some fines, but what’s the long term effect?

BTW- camp was really enjoyable and reasonably priced ($7.50). I highly recommend it to anyone who has a chance to go!

I honestly think it’s just competition- we have heard of several position battles and cuts are impending. I am sure these are just squabbles as the team nears pre-season. It doesn’t bother me one bit - especially when you hear Metcalf pulled the team together before the day was over. You hear about camp fights all the time - as long as they are aren’t hauling off and brawling each other like Earl Thomas I think it’s borderline healthy. I’d rather hear about emotions boiling over rather than what drills Pete was participating in that day.

Football is a wise gift that helps our boys channel their inclinations to be physically aggressive. The best (and only) psychiatrist I ever encountered was a down-and-out brawl I got sucked into. Had we not all been young football players, I have little doubt serious injury would have resulted. The extreme explosion of violence left us all exhausted and better friends. I was amazed. It is in our Nature. To deny it does worse harms. We are among the world's most dangerous creatures. It is best we tame those temptations. Tre Brown's future is on the line. Of course he's tense. I noted he wasn't the one kicked off the field...

That was my impression, but wanted input from more experienced folks. I also wondered if DK’s fight might have been in support of Bobo who was bloodied in the earlier altercation. Of course Bobo delivered his own defense by catching a couple of TD passes later in practice!

DK has expressed affection for both Tyler and Bobo. I suspect you are on to something with him stepping up for friends, sending messages as to who NOT to screw with. In this League, that will attract exactly the wrong type of reaction, as it will be seen as a button to push when you want to draw a flag. If the temper of a game gets hot, Officials will be watching him closely. Pete seemed to have given up trying to stop it. Maybe DK is OCD that way?

I was born in ‘86 and tomorrow is my birthday! They almost aligned perfectly. Thanks for the great content - what a fun time to be a Hawks fan. I gifted my foster son a Kearse jersey that was too big for me, but he loves the colors. We are getting him in football this year in Texas - will be a huge adjustment but hopefully he comes around to loving it as much as our family does. Go Hawks!

The 86 Hawks on their end of the season run beat four playoff teams and lost out to the playoffs on a tiebreaker( that I still think was bogus!) If they would have got in who knows what could have happened . They were the hottest team in the league those last five weeks. Kreig was injured in the middle, hence the losing streak! I see this O-line as a middle of the pack unit If Williams is healthy enough to play at least decently! Center leadership is HUGE! I do see the making of a decent line in the future with Sataoa being a starter eventually. With at least a 9-to 15th ranked unit this offense, with more clock time due to an improved D could do some very good things!

I'm cautiously optimistic about the OL. I think Williams is a good get, but risky. Going on his 2nd ACL injury doesn't bode well, but I don't know the specifics of his injuries. I hope his signing is more about depth and not concerns about Olu... i suspect the former. If the OL can be middling while improving as the season goes, I'll be a happy camper. Lucas is a bummer. I really hope he can make it back, but something is nagging me about his availability. Just the chatter, or really the non-chatter, about him. Still, excited for the season.
