Macdonald:

- Jake Bobo has a concussion

- Tyler Hall knee injury "we don't think it's that serious"

- Jalen Milroe needs to take care of the football

- Operation has improved for Milroe

- Andrew Janocko called the plays on offense

- Olu was suited up for an emergency, but doesn't reflect C competition

- Haven't made any set-in-stone decisions on WR competition but they have to consider how many TEs they keep, how many QBs, it could impact the number of WRs

- Great play by Okada. Happy for Cody White.

- Christian Haynes dealing with pec injury. Not that serious but evaluating it going into next week.

- Drake Thomas has had a great camp. Poised. Smart. Great for dime linebacker.

Thot I saw Bobo blocking on a first down run in the 2nd half...

I see preseason games as scrimmages in that it's not about the totality of the game, but rather, the individual plays that were run. The outcome win or lose has no matter. If we win big do we feel great about it, or losing badly do we feel lousy? Nah. Either way it's practice and evaluation. I enjoyed just watching this game for each individual play. Yes, there were plays that lead to the outcome defeat, but I saw a bunch of positive plays on both sides of the ball, and those were cool.

The preseason has a less serious vibe about it. I know that it's serious for all those 2nd and 3rd stringers trying to get a roster spot. It's not prime time yet. The broadcast has a provincial vibe that I like. It's cool someone like Kate Scott gets a chance to call a game. I think she does a nice job. Women are not in the broadcast booth yet. Women are just reporting on the sidelines, but not up there in the booth. She and Mike Robb retain that local vibe. What I really love about preseason is watching Michael Bennett. He is a total hoot. I love the banter with him and Robb. Really funny. I'll always remember a couple years ago when he was interviewing Pete Carroll on the sidelines during a game. Bennett says the question I have is what everyone watching wants to know: why did you trade me? Hah! That was great great. It caught Pete a little off guard, but Michael quickly put his hand upon Pete's shoulder and was clearly jesting. It was funny. I was disappointed that Bennett didn't make the trip to Green Bay. Too bad he's not part of the local coverage during the season.

Just watched the game again. All 22. Milroe is young but the majority of QB flops outside of the first round is huge. I am not worried as Darnold may well turn out to be the QB we need. If he works out down the road great if not extend Darnold. People seem to forget they were talking about him as the MVP last year.

We have some really good defensive players as backups what I did not like is how they would just run down the middle. That is what they did last year. Hopefully, we have that remedied with the first stringer's

Running backs look pretty solid I am still unsure about the wide receivers as we have not seen them against elite defensive backfields

We do need a salad offensive guard or two as back ups.

Call me crazy, but I think games like these are axactly what a prospect like Milroe need, if you have an Organization that really wants to develop you.

An intelligent person like him should use it as motivation to never stop working on his flaws.

I couldn't care less about the score, fumbles,...

Exactly what the fan base needed, too, whether they wanted it, or not! We all needed a pump-the-brakes moment from Milroe before the regular season starts and the calls for him to play come from the media and fans. Now we can settle down and get to Sam D business.

It wasn’t pretty, put the first two preseason games in perspective, looked like a typical PS game for a ‘rebuilding’ team. I think the team is better than this but I think (I hope!) those of us who have been watching this team through rose colored microscopes have sobered up a little bit, and the SB bound talk subsides until we get a clearer view of how this season plays out, one game at a time. As for Milroe I was and still am high on him. BUT if this is his work after all the ‘tremendous development ‘ he’s acquired in pre-season, I think we all need to dial down or expectations for this year, and maybe even next year too. I understand that he was not playing behind the 1’s but a lot of his problems are on him and seemed like issues he should have overcome by the time he was playing in high school.

I picked them to win 11 games way back when SSJ asked us for predictions, I’ll stand by that with the caveat that everything goes right,… but when has everything gone right for 4 months in my life. I’m not throwing in the towel for the season before they play any regular season games but I think for many of us this was a reminder that the rest of this season will be real big league football. I’m still optimistic, but cautiously optimistic.

I felt like I was watching last year's O-Line playing, making me tip my hat again to Geno. We (they) now have film on their individual play and more importantly, how crucial unit cohesion is in both trenches. Seasoned Coach Benton and crew will have irrefutable proof for what and why they are asking a player to learn something.

I think that MVS was playing due to Horton being banged up a bit. He also provided Milroe with a veteran target. He might not be WR3 at the end of the season, but he will be at the beginning.

Initial thoughts;

- No starters in the game, so was just hoping the game didn't get too sloppy. On defence they held up really well. On offence it got most assuredly sloppy.

- It was good experience for Milroe to get all the snaps. He was always going to be a project, so our expectations of him this year are probably overly optimistic. If MacDonald was thinking about using him in specialty packages, he might be rethinking that. That young man's mind needs to calm down. He's speeding himself up, and working way too hard and thinking about way too much. That's a liability. That 4th down fumble was a killer when he had the yardage.

- Ivy and the backup LB's played really well. I feel better about the depth there.

- Willis was a pain in the arse when he used his legs. Shows you how valuable Milroe can be if he polishes his game up.

- Happy for Cody White. Dude works hard, and I think he won't make the 53 again this year, so the good vibes might not last for long. Numbers game.

- Special teams was better than the KC game, but not sure what to read into this with so many players taking snaps that won't be on the roster on Wednesday.

- Perhaps the biggest thing, o-line backups were not the greatest. Laumea, Cabeldue.....some bad snaps in there. And Jerrell still doesn't have his hands and feet in sync, and it costs him from time to time. Might see some movement here, either bringing in a vet, or grabbing someone else's castaways. Pray to the Gods for good health for the starters.

I'm seeing our Support Squad Players coming in during the Season hoping to measure up and not embarrass themselves when subbing. THAT will be the way you get to starting games over the cat-fighting innuendo battles that ruin a Team. Truly good coaching.

Pre season - a necessary evil.

Pick 2nd string, depth guys, don't get 1st string and rotational guys hurt.

One thing remains constant, the O line.

As usual, Hawks go into 2025 with a serviceable left tackle and four question marks. Good luck Sammy baby!

It's cool 1st 2 games are SF & pissburg - litmus tests!

I wanna know more about

- which packers (starters) played and how long?

- which seahawks (starters) played and how long?

I thought it was clearly our backups vs their starters for the first couple of plays. I can't keep track of it all.

I guess I Just want to make excuses for Milroe.

My immediate thoughts have caveats: We looked ugly. -But I counted 8 defensive starters against our 3rd/4th string offense in the 1st quarter, so I'm not going to be too hard on our backups. Milroe looked terrible. -But there were guys blocking for him whose names I didn't even remember from the depth chart.

Still, he runs with the ball away from his body and that doesn't even cut it in high school ball. His future doesn't look to be any time soon.

From officiating to the broadcast, to the play on the field, the game was bush league.

Referring was awful. I'll start with the huge on in our favor. Our biggest play might have been that INT and it should have been overturned. How do you watch a replay of that and let it stand? One of their biggest plays should have been a penalty after Bobo called fair catch, got run into (by a Packer and his own teammate), then another Packer flew in and took the ball from his unconcious body. To my eye, he had possession of the ball, was down, and had been touched by an opponent. After calling fair catch. Lots of low blocks that I thought would have been flagged went uncalled. The dive against Ivey was dirty.

The broadcast never showed the hold that overturned our first touchdown. I'm not claiming there wasn't one; in fact I feel certain there was. But a replay of a game changing penalty HAS to be shown to the viewing audience.

I hate injuries in a preseason game. Even to players who were never going to make the 53 anyway, because that's a terrible way to end your professional career. And watching this was a terrible way to spend my Sunday. Sorry to be negative, but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted us to just end it early.

I usually do not wish bad luck on anybody, but I was happy to see Cards cut Colt McCoy today. Which to me doesn't make since with Kyler banged up. Plus Colt gets 2.5 million guaranteed. So he will be OK.

He is 3-0 lifetime against the Hawks...so send him away. On a side note, 2.5 million for a few weeks of camp is good work.

Yes, sorry. I just checked it was an old article. Which means that Kyle is not banged up either. Not that I was happy about that. If we have to worry too much about Cards the Hawks have other issues.

Thank you for correcting me.

I like Milroe ,but to me best case scenario is Sam plays MVP level ball for about 8-10 years. And do not forget the S.B. MVP's.

I swear I am sober, just ready for football.

I'm seeing our non-starters building an identity as "The Support Squad". They all now know what and where the "edges" are that they need to chase. That is solid Coaching. I am also pleased I will no longer find myself sitting through a long infomercial interrupted by football coverage. Never did hear what/who the penalty was that negated our first TD, nor the Bobo collision and outcomes of the injuries suffered. Kudos for telling us here at Seaside Joe. The production was sad. I trust the Front Office will make corrections, like hiring Ken Arthur to run it next year.

I don't think that Jalen was processing as quickly as he needed to be because most of his throws seemed to be coming out a hair late. Just my impression. My enthusiasm for Jalen has not ebbed at all though because I think he'll get the time he needs to iron things out. Maybe that never happens but he's going to get every opportunity.

I see MacDonald INVESTING in our young QB, giving him the full experience spending a week preparing to play a game. A thousand little things were learned. His scrambling skills are far from optimal, taking sacks rather than tossing the ball out of bounds without taking a flag. As we witnessed, it can be overwhelming.
