We are back baby!! Darn near lost my voice at last night's game, 2 more weeks to recover :)

Go Hawks

Has there ever been a better situational offensive series by the Seahawks that ended in a punt than that last drive to eat 4.5 minutes of game clock? Given the setting, that was great play calling by KK and execution by everyone, but especially Ken Walker. K9's box score doesn't do justice to the impact he had on this game.

I wanted to add that my wife called something in the moment that I didn’t think much of at the time. When the Rams went for it and failed on 4th down, she said she was so glad they didn’t take the points. I didn’t really agree at the time because they would still be down 1, but on that final drive just needing to get into field goal range makes it a different game. McVay said he wanted to be aggressive in the pregame (which was all about the Rams and had little Seahawks coverage) and his hubris came back to bite him on the ass.

Good call Mrs. Turtleman. I made the comment that they should kick a field goal at the time too, and my buddy thought I was crazy. I don't think going for it was necessarily the wrong decision, but it certainly wasn't a no-brainer.

Part of the game, but just a bit off-topic. My favorite announcer moment was when Sam way over-threw the ball beyond the back of the end zone, and JSN still caught it. Announcer: JSN caught it. Of course he did. It's JSN.

Sam was an artist out there. Forget “be a blacksmith,” he was electric! I expected a lower scoring defensive game, but we got a shootout with MVP Stafford and Sam won it. I still can’t believe it. Mrs Turtleman and I were right with all you guys in chat. Our hearts were broken with the Riq penalty and TD given up on the following play. It felt like he was going to single-handily lose us the game. That game was an emotional roller coaster to witness, especially after the slog the earlier game was. Play calling was solid in spite of me questioning it all night. “Why are we in pistol so much?” “Why didn’t we have anyone on Adams?” It ultimately didn’t matter. When ‘Spoon made that final tackle in bounds, I screamed so loud I worried about scaring the neighbors. We didn’t go to sleep until after 2 AM eastern time. I’ll remember this game when I’m in an old folks home and don’t remember my own name.

Woolen lost any team support he had with that antic. Certainly lost my Trust. Surely he knew it was a game-changer.

I hate playing “ifs” but if we had lost, that man would be run out of town.

Others have captured this sentiment, but I will reiterate that it feels like we have beaten the second best team in football twice in a row, and three times total this year.

I'm confident that the super bowl will not be too big a moment for anyone on our team, considering how battle-tested this squad is from this playoff run.

I need to study the Patriots' season, but one thing I believe is that they will be very stout against the run. I'm also thinking they are like us in that they generate pressure, perhaps not as successfully, with just their front four.

I don't believe we can take them lightly, and the threat of Drake Maye running or dumping the ball off to Hunter Henry, or a running back, should stress our defense.

It's the only game of theirs i've watched is the a f c championship, and those weather conditions distorted their performance. I think we have a very serious challenge ahead of us, but I am optimistic we will win.

Thankful for the NFC West, Iron sharpens Iron!

In general, we can indeed generate good or at least decent pressure with our front four. But last night we could not. Very frustrating to watch Stafford have all day to make throws. That's a recipe for defeat, because he is lights out given time, but especially vulnerable when he gets hurried and hit. But our pressure was just not there, and we chose to avoid blitzing. Hard to hate the result, though....

The Pats' offensive line is not a strength, not as good as the OL of the Rams. So maybe we can get some heat on Maye with 4 rushing and a light box, in nickle or dime, as we like to do...

Sounds odd, but it was such a terrific game that I was never worried—I was that caught up in it. By the fourth quarter, I knew I’d be jumping for joy if we won and disappointed if we lost and that we’d leave it on the field either way. (While I was ticked at Riq, the Parkindrop cancelled that out.)

BTW, I have Sam at 7/10/115/1TD on third down. (The Hawks scored two TDs on third down). This may be the decisive stat of the game.

Noice, Paul, that's a great attitude. Not sure that many of us had that same equanimity

(had to look that spelling up).

One other last comment...I don't recall breaking out in tears after a Seahawks game like I did after this one. I just love this team so much, and the older you get, the more you know how special it is to have a fan experience like this. I used the chat to keep myself grounded the entire game, just feeling the empathetic joy, so thank you to all of you for the community.

Appreciate your comment, Kelly. Yeah, was following on the computer 'n the comments added a lot of atmosphere to the stats that were given.

That was closer than I wanted, but probably not than I expected. Two evenly matched, well coached teams. I thought going into the game that the key was to stop Puka, so he proceeded to get around 160 yards and a TD. I thought the Rams needed to contain JSN, so he gets close to 160 yards and a TD. I thought the Hawks would grind LA with their renewed rushing attack, instead the Rams out rushed them. In the end, the one thing I didn’t expect was Darnold to be the key to the win. But there he was with around 350 yards, 3 TDs, no turnovers. MVP anyone?

What REALLY happened??

The big fella found out.

“It has been 14 years that he’s been sitting there waiting for his opportunity, and he deserves it. He’s great at what he does, and now he’s going to find out.”

“You’re gonna find out, big fella.”

Chuck Turtleman's avatar

I love Pete but that statement always bugged me. He fully deserves your call out. Schneider has been near flawless since that day.

Not much to say. Totally proud of the team and Sam to hang in there and stay in the next play. Championships are hard, and here we are going back to the Super Bowl! Unbelievable. JSN is a grown ass man! McVay is about the only OC that can get to MacDonald, but the defence did just enough.

I just want to say……

Michael Dickson.

Just coz no one else has.

Charley Filipek's avatar

YES !, you got That on the point, Dale. What A Punter ! ... game changer.

zezinhom400's avatar

Man what a great call out!! Triple rec!!

The two most unsung heroes tonight were Michael Dickson and John Schneider

Heard the game on the radio here in the UK, was only going to listen up to halftime, but after falling asleep and waking up to hear the last 5 minutes, what an ending!

Love watching this team play. They lift each other up week after week. When the offense stumbles, the defense steps up. When the defense wiffs, the offense whacks. Can't forget about special teams always seeming to make a play to get the whole team energized.

Will be interesting to see if Woolen has the game of his life in the Superbowl to save his job. Time to go win it all in the 9ers house! Defense can solidfy themselves as the Dark Side by restoring balance to the force with a revenge super bowl win. Sam can go from seeing ghosts to Ghostbuster. One more game. Go Hawks!

Grant's avatar

I'll forgive Woolen if he gives me a pick six in the Super Bowl. He owes us all at least six points.

zezinhom400's avatar

Don’t think he can save his job no matter what. Same as Metcalf couldn’t. In fact the better he plays the more he’ll be offered and the quicker he’s out of town.

Emmanwori got all over him bc that’s what high performance teams do. They push themselves to greatness, among themselves.

But Riq fired back at him.

The team is bigger than anyone.
