Another one: Boye Mafe signs 3 year contract with Bengals

Shaheed is BACK!! 3 years $17 million!!!!! I think $34.7 million guaranteed!

Chris H's avatar

Nice! He's a guy that I hoped wanted to be back. Glad JS was able to make it work. Now we don't have Horton instead of Shaheed, we have both. I like both.

Danno's avatar

Hell yeah! It’s a hell of a WR room! If Horton is healthy, along with Arroyo, this receiving core is potent!

Chris H's avatar

Now, beef up the RB room.

Come on now Mafe for $60M isn’t crazy in dysfunctional Cincinnati.

Bret's avatar

It makes their Hendrickson nonsense even more absurd. What an overpay, at least on paper. I hope he plays well and wish him the best.

rpmschevy's avatar

Came to post. You got it fast. Unreal. $20 mil. Makes DLaw even more valuable

Bob Johnston's avatar

The Hawks should do really well on comp picks next year. $20 mil for Mafe is crazy.

Danno's avatar

Mafe was edge 4, that’s insane money. If I were D-law, I’d want to renegotiate!

rpmschevy's avatar

I know been saying that to all these Seahawks pundits. “JS must resign Mafe or face huge hole” kind of articles. I post the guy was 4th on the roster and played less than 50% by end of year. JS playing 3D chess is just awesome.

Danno's avatar

They need to keep D-Law from retirement and keep Chenna on a lower number. With D Hall, and a rookie, we’re okay. Maybe Chubb?

Stephen Pitell's avatar

How can you expect Chenna to take less when Mafe just got 20M/Y? Consider us lucky.

Scott M's avatar

Just let O'Toole in the door and get him some reps...and if you want a bigger end same but for Ivey. Those are both players that were underutilized but for good reason...now let them compete.

Danno's avatar

Both were retained on futures contracts, so they will be back to compete! may the best players take up to the Super Bowl!!

rpmschevy's avatar

I’m hoping Cam Jordan from Saints and a rookie.

Danno's avatar

Just want to keep it good value, that might not happen until late Wednesday when the other teams run out of money ;) JS waits it out!

Danno's avatar

3 year $60 million???? This could turn into a 4th round comp pick

Bob Bryan's avatar

Keeping Chenna for $11.5M new money doesn’t look too bad to me.

BEASTMODE808's avatar

two 4's and two 5's in 2027 would be niiiiiice.

Danno's avatar

If we lose both Shaheed and Woolen to big contract, we could get 5 potential comp pics unless we go big in the free agent market at get players. Walker, Bryant and Mafe are potential comp pics. Woolen and Shaheed could go over $15 and close to $20 million.

MJDarby15's avatar

This is the one I hoped we would get done, sucks to lose K9 and Coby but really glad to have Jobe back on a good value deal for both sides.

Grant Alden's avatar

3 years, $51 million for Shaheed. He’s staying, if I read it right.

JIMMY JOHNSON's avatar

How many "Elite" ravens players have fallen short after MM left?

Ray's avatar

I just had a thought. An actual thought, about our chances of resigning Riq Woolen. SSJ is going to be right about this one, too:

"-Paying Tariq Woolen the contract that he wants will make the Seahawks WORSE."

Riq Woolen just doesn't seem to be a team player, and the RAMS just upped the numbers Riq is going to demand by signing Trent McDuffie to a four-year, $124 million deal, with $100 million guaranteed.

Jacob Coleman's avatar

The only thing that matters for success is NOT overpaying and drafting/developing well.

Thats it.

Stick to it John!!

Ray's avatar

I think I agree, but isn't that really two things?

PlaybackJD's avatar

Kinda boring day! Don’t understand why not franchise K9. I know you explained it but not many good RBs were even available, especially after Charb’s injury. However I’m glad they didn’t overspend on K9, Coby and Mafe, I also don’t want Woolen back. So smart moves by JS but a boring day, but that’s probably for the best and not really the hawks style to make splash signings.

PlaybackJD's avatar

**Actually there were zero good RBs available. Wtf they gonna do? Give the keys to Holani!?! If they do something stupid like sign Kamara or Aaron Jones I’m gonna freak the hell out

Ray's avatar

I'm impressed with how well SSJ has done with his free agent predictions so far.

K9: If he tests the market, he's gone. Check

Boye Mafe: Probable gone. Check

Jobe: Priority CB. Check

Bryant: Seahawks wish him luck. Check

Nicholas Donsky's avatar

Every over spent dollar today is one less dollar you can spend at the trade deadline or next season. We didn't lose anyone we can't replace and now we have enough cap space to resign Witherspoon ,JSN and any player we want! 15 mil for 3 years for a RB disregards the limited life span for RBs. Staying out of the 1st hours of free agency madness is pure genius. JS will find some great deals later on.

Chip Mac's avatar

You would think that if KK wants Shaheed in LV, he be signed by now.

Smells Like Bean Spirit's avatar

Excellent. Starting 5 in the backfield (ranging from solid starters to the best at their position) all locked up for 2026 (and 2027, I believe.) Took care of one of their own at a fair price (if not a bit of a discount.)

Depth looks pretty shaky beyond the starting nickel package, but hey, that's what the third wave of free agency and later rounds of the draft are for

Bill H's avatar

Really happy we kept Josh. Coby is replaceable. So is Mafe. Sorry to lose K-9, but $15 mill a year for a RB is no way to build a sustainably competitive team. The SB win caused other GM’s to overpay for some of our Free Agents, which always happens. Other teams like the Bengals, Raiders, Jets, and the like do this to give their fans something to get excited about, while their organizational dysfunction keeps them from being meaningful contenders. JS will find some late round jewels, probably trade down to add picks, and HC MM will coach them up to be better than the position they were acquired (low draft picks, or UDFA). In JS and MM I trust!

Chris H's avatar

He was the one guy I thought we had to have, so happy he stays. Money is crazy today.

Charley Filipek's avatar

Yea! for Mr. Josh Jobe 'n the Hawks !

Bob Johnston's avatar

With RB a need I would not be surprised to see JS get a late RB in free agency (JK Dobbins or Devin Singletary?) and then make a bigger splash in the draft. He drafted 2 RBs in the 2nd round in Walker and Charbs and that worked out so why not do it again and grab Jadarian Price in the draft?

KHammarling's avatar

Mike Evans to the 49ers sucks... I like Evans but now I have to hate him.

Linderbaum to the Raiders is very smart. Expensive as hell but top tier Centers just don't normally hit the market, and when drafting a rookie QB #1 you gotta protect him! Kubiak up and running.

The WR market is bonkers! Massive deals all over. Same for Edge. The smart move to make is to just not get involved, JS seemingly has this right at the moment to hunt value and depth and complete units.

Also Tua gone. Jones tagged. Malik Willis making more than Darnold (I think, didn't see the details too much).

It's all bananas. I love it

Bill H's avatar

GM John Lynch & 49ers have a strategy of paying huge money for a few stars and going cheap everywhere else…has put them in contention, but never won the big one. Now they have aging and declining Christian McCaffery, issues with Trent Williams and $39 million/ year at left tackle, aging and injury prone George Kittle…Evans will likely be good by not great for 9ers…I don’t fear them, only the Rams.

Grant's avatar

The 49ers somehow got even older :)
