Seahawks schedule interview with Ben Johnson for Saturday
Mike Vrabel also makes his way onto Seahawks radar: Seaside Joe 1782
This week, I gave Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson my endorsement as the top candidate to become the Seattle Seahawks next head coach and lucky for me, the team has made an appointment to interview him for the job:
Saturday.
That seems a little wild because the Lions have a playoff game on Sunday afternoon, and Johnson also has three other interviews in the next two days, but I guess all the more reason to be impressed if Detroit beats the Bucs 40-0.
Or to sweep it under the rug if the Lions get blanked.
Adam Schefter also reported on Thursday that Seattle wants to talk with former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who had his first official visit of the month by meeting with the L.A. Chargers today. The Seahawks also reportedly interviewed Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero on Wednesday and are scheduled to interview Dan Quinn on Thursday. Also meeting with Seattle on Friday is Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
The names we don’t know scheduled yet that have been requested by the Seahawks are Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith, and Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

When we hear of the Seahawks narrowing their candidates down to a second round of interviews, I will update the bios/backgrounds on all of the potential head coaches left on their list. For now, I would say my top-10 list remains intact without much need for change.
Ian Rapoport reported on January 13 that Seattle was expected to request Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, but we haven’t heard an official report of them doing so yet.
Dan Quinn is becoming a non-starter for me. With apologies to K.J. Wright, Quinn is becoming the polar opposite of what I hope the Seahawks address in their search and yes, I’m thinking a lot about how bad the Cowboys defense was in the playoffs; Dallas had a -27.79 EPA on defense, which is worse than ANY game by Seattle in 2022 or 2023.

Still saying it'll be Johnson to the Moons. Falcons for Bill, Chargers for Jim. Raiders I do think go Pierce. No idea on the Titans or Panthers. But we have a pretty clear run at the #2 Offensive candidate, whether that's viewed as Slowik, Monken, Callahan or Smith.
JS is making all the noise he wants that offensive leader paired with a new QB. He seems to see where the NFL is at right now. But we'll have to keep waiting until the Lions and Texans and Ravens exit the playoffs to really start getting insights I think.
There are many things I don't really understand about what the Seahawks are doing and what some fans/GM/owner want. But I especially don't understand the idea that JS believes that we are "close" while also seemingly wanting to draft a QB to replace Geno (because Geno is not good enough apparently)
I took a look back at the QBs drafted since 2013. I then counted the number of QBs equal to or better than Geno (I tried to be very liberal including guys such as Fields and Jones for example):
Total QBs drafted since 2013 = 127 QBs
QBs better than or equal to Geno = 20 QBs (16% chance)
QBs better than or equal to Geno drafted with the 16th pick or lower = 7 QBs (6% chance)
I don't understand how one can realistically think that the team is close while also saying we need to draft (and start?) a rookie QB. Even if they don't start the rookie QB and roll with Geno ... He will likely be a lame duck QB similar to what Russ was last year to Peyton.
Hate to be the cold shower guy but I am seeing a slog for the foreseeable future.
Hope to be wrong!
