Do the Hawks have any dead money with Harris?

Some (John P Morgan) are framing this as “we paid 1M for a 2026 pick swap.” I’m as down as they some in this years’ O-line but I don’t see this as being a sacrifice.

Looks like $1 mil. He signed a one year contract with 1 mil signing bonus. Thats sort of the rental SJ referring too.

You beat me to the post. Plus Harris 2.4 won’t be on books so now Williams is even “cheaper” overall. Considering the trade capital, really feels like “we play nice move” by the Hawks. Browns lost Pocics backup yesterday. Bringing back Harris is a win for the Browns. Good will can go a long way.

Looks like part of the IOL 53 man roster “prediction” will be more solid for you in an upcoming article.

Hey, uh, Seaside Joe? Hi, yeah, I have an overreaction of my own I need to confess, um, perhaps the O line isn't as bad as I thought and that perhaps, indeed, Olu is doing far better than we know. Okay! Self disclosure finished! 😂

This seems like the Seahawks did right by a player they didn't need. Which speaks well for them.

Was Olu better, or are the Hawks still banking on potential/youth? His college resume is nice, but I'd hoped for more ownership of the position by year 2.

Me too, but I thought he looked pretty good on Saturday. Maybe practicing against Murphy has it's advantages?

My impression is that neither Olu nor Harris were able to distinguish themselves as a capable starter and we only need one backup. Olu is on a nice team-controlled contract for a couple more years, and that was his biggest advantage in the backup center competition.

Perhaps this works out for the best for Olu in the long run. He needs to get stronger and get his leverage and angles worked out when run blocking. He just doesn't get any push in the run game. He's solid in pass pro though. Sitting behind a top notch center for a year or two might be the best thing for him. Hopefully Williams plays well and stays healthy.

The future question might be, will JS actually spend starting center money next spring if he does? History would say he doesn't. But if Williams plays like a top 5 center this year, and stays healthy, has John ever had that before and turned it down? He traded Max Unger who was definitely a good center, presumably for the opportunity that was Jimmy Graham. If the Graham opportunity wasn't there, would JS have traded Max elsewhere, or just not met his asking price on a new contract? I dunno. I don't remember how much term Unger had left at the time of the trade.

It will be interesting.

My take is Harris was just insurance and to have competition at the center position. Not knowing ahead of time that we could get Williams or another good center. Now that we have Williams, Harris is no longer needed and problem solved. John is always looking ahead and preparing if something doesn't work out as well.
