I hate the fact that when viewed from pre and post Adams trade- we are nearly status quo on draft picks and lost a top tier QB for it. I like the idea to trade Wilson while he still has prime value and avoid paying $50+M the next four years. We can watch how A A Ron’s contract plays out in effect with GB and we’d have perhaps a look into what our fate may had been. Another tepid rebuild around Russ would’ve led to another woeful season. A wholesale rebuild seems more plausible at this point. Same playbook as ‘11 perhaps. I can’t help but wonder if this is PCs sunset cruise- his new coaches, specifically Desai could be coach in waiting. Hard for us fans to discern this if such but an interesting take that maybe this rebuild is more about a long term coaching plan than who’s the starting QB.
In all likelihood Russ maybe wanted out regardless, threatened a holdout, wouldn't have re-signed, etc, and this is the best overall value we reasonably could have gotten, considering cap relief, draft capital, bringing in young talent over the next couple years.
There wasn't any trade that really made since this year, so if the trade needed to happen this year for sure, well, this is fine.
I'm surprised Pete wanted to be involved in a rebuild.
I really hope they do go all-in for the rebuild. Cut Wagner. Don't re-sign Duane. Consider trading high-end talent that will be 'old' by the time the Seahawks peak again (e.g. Lockett).
This seems to be Jody's first big move. We will see how it goes.
I don’t follow tbh… we keep the leagues oldest coach for a rebuild? I mean, Pete have done great things for the Hawks, it’s still very surprising to me. I thought we’d keep a 9 time ProBowl QB with at least 5 years in the tank over Pete tbh.
Good or bad, I still need to sleep I this before settling on that.
It's not fair for us to judge how much longer Pete Carroll wants to coach or is capable of coaching. My dad is 81 and I'd be okay with him coaching the Seahawks if he wanted to.
No, I guess that’s true… I should not be the one to judge and I guess it doesn’t matter if the coach is old/ young, male/ female etc. And still it puzzles me. I mean what’s in their plans that makes us a better team now? Also, some of the newsletter you recently wrote on the topic of a possible Wilson trade short of pointed to the fact that a rebuild this late I Pete’s career was unlikely. I guess I’ll have to listen to the pod-cast to get the latest thoughts now 😁
I would still pursue DeShawn Watson; give up next years 1st rounder and one of the 2nd rounders. If he has to sit 8 games who cares. For now bring in Marcus Mariota. I am disappointed to see Russ go but he gave us great entertainment for 10 years. I will cheer for the Broncos unless they play Seattle. A timely article by you on Seattle's draft record. Pete and John will be put to the test now
I wouldn't endorse that trade. Mayfield comes with a poor track record and the need for a new contract, one that could cost more than the quarterback they just traded. It's time to start looking at 2023.
Tanking is one term to call it, but really it's just "not trying to be competitive right now." It's not a good thing to go 3-14 or whatever, but we've seen the immense value of a rookie contract QB and Seattle could find one of those in 2023.
Grayson McCall has so many attributes that I love in a QB, going well beyond his physical strengths and down to his personality and work ethic; I think he's a fit for any team that's willing to build to his strengths.

My thoughts, in general chronological order:
I wish Jody had chosen Russ over PC/JS.

Sign Marriota for 2 years?
I have about a dozen Wilson jerseys for sale...cheap.
What's your lowest offer???
Serious? I have 10 jerseys
No, not serious.

Yeah, could be a settling move!!
