Seaside Streams: Ken Walker & Zach Charbonnet film study

Maybe it’s the 5-2 record, maybe it’s Pete Carroll, or maybe it’s just my algorithm…The Seattle Seahawks are a hot team for YouTube Xs and Os analysis this week. Several of my favorite YouTube channels have focused on the Seahawks recently, including All-22, Underdog Fantasy, The O-Line Committee, and The QB School.
Last week’s Seaside Streams had a lot of comments asking for more, as is usually the case with this series, so I’ll try to do it as often as possible when there’s enough content to justify a post. I’ve also created a “section” on the homepage for Seaside Streams if you ever want to go there to find old editions.

Walker, Charbonnet run on W.C. fields
I’m a huge fan of the All-22 Films channel. The more Seahawks fans who show up to these videos, hit like, subscribe, and leave a comment, the more videos I think we will get from him about the Seahawks.
Zach Charbonnet is now averaging 5.8 yards per carry and we’ve barely had a chance to see what he can do as a receiver. Combined with Ken Walker, the back are averaging 21 carries and 100 yards per game. Health permitting, I believe Seattle could have two of the NFL’s top-10 running backs by 2024 and 2025.
Colt McCoy on Shane Waldron
This job on Underdog Fantasy of breaking film with Josh Norris used to belong to Josh McCown, but he’s now Bryce Young’s QB coach on the Panthers. Will Colt McCoy be the next to make the leap?
While the QB School criticized Shane Waldron’s play designs when we reviewed his Geno Smith patreon video recently, McCoy shows how the 13-personnel and pistol formation has evolved week-to-week and allowed the Seahawks to bust out surprises against certain defense.
Against the Browns man-heavy defense, Geno and Waldron were also able to adjust and take advantage of opportunities versus a tough Cleveland team. I would say “this is a must-watch” for all of these videos, that’s why I’m sharing them, but this is a must-watch.
O-Line, Run Game, Geno analysis by Committee
We didn’t have enough YouTube channels with offensive linemen (or any that I know of) and now we have The O-Line Committee, one of my favorite new podcasts of the year. One of the two former NFL OL on the show is Alex Boone, who spent a few months with the Seahawks towards the end of his career, giving him some experience with Pete Carroll.
What did I just say? This is a must watch!
QB School on Geno Smith
It’s been 2 weeks since J.T. O’Sullivan’s first Geno Smith breakdown and he’s already back at it again despite saying he’s not really a fan of Seattle’s offense.
This was posted less than 10 minutes before I wrote this article, so I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet; I wanted to get these links to you as fast as possible because I know many of you have limited time to watch YouTube videos prior to Sunday’s game.

Little lads talking Seahawks
I know a lot of you are fans of Derrik Klassen, formerly of Football Outsiders and now of The 33rd Team and Bleacher Report. I haven’t seen this video all the way through but I’m sure there are some valuable nuggets in there.
Noah’s arc
I don’t know what this podcast is but Noah Fant was on it last week and he talked a bit about his NFL experiences and why he loves playing for Pete Carroll so much. You can criticize Fant for blocking, but I have nothing bad to say about his personality.
The Leonard Williams content
You knew it was coming!
The best Leonard Williams tape of all will be when he’s playing in a Seahawks uniform, starting this week against the Ravens. For all the talk of Lamar Jackson as a passer, and he’s surely their best player, stopping Baltimore’s three-headed rushing attack (including Lamar) will be a major key to winning this game. Williams should help there immediately.

Clint Hurtt on KJ Wright’s show
From what I understand, Seahawks defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt may or may not be subscribed to Seaside Joe, so I was waiting to hear him give the newsletter a shout out on K.J. Wright’s podcast. It must have been subliminal!
Good talk here with Hurtt, who I expect to become an NFL head coach in the near future.

Marlon Humphrey has a future in broadcasting
I am always excited when I come across another podcast by a current NFL player. What a strange time we live in! I found Marlon’s podcast a few weeks ago, which he recorded literally hours after giving up a game-winning touchdown to George Pickens, which I find to be a fascinating time for a player to be recording a podcast. He comes across as very humble and down to earth and realistic about the business, he’s got a bit of a movie star appeal, so I could see Marlon Humphrey as an analyst after his career is over.
For those unaware, Humphrey was a 2017 first round pick and he’s a three-time Pro Bowler who at times is an elite corner. He’s dealt with injuries in the last few years, but matchups against DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will be fascinating to watch on Sunday.
In this episode, he’s talking to teammate Geno Stone, one of the biggest breakout players in the league this year: Stone, a free safety who went in the seventh round of the 2020 draft, leads the NFL with five interceptions. In a way he was kind of the heir apparent to Earl Thomas, joining the team right as Thomas had his meltdown. The summer before that happened, Stone cited Thomas the perfect mentor.
Are film critics a dying breed?
Last week, I ended Seaside Streams with a comprehensive history of Frasier Crane. This time, we pay a visit to our amazing friends Siskel & Ebert and the ongoing crisis in film and film criticism.
If there’s one thing I get across today let it be this: Film studios pay for good reviews.

Thanks. I'll wade through some of this tonight. I watched the Clint Hurtt interview on the KJ All Day podcast last night and it was very good. It seems KJ has coaching aspirations, if he can have a bit of a family life as well. Don't know about that KJ! He'd probably be an excellent LB coach, and would be a big asset to any d-coordinator. He's a smart guy.
